If you don't get your phone Friday, take it as an opportunity to seek some compensation, maybe a free upgrade to credit off your next bill?

Last year I preordered a 4s which didn't arrive launch day, I called and complained and received a $100credit for the hassle ($999 phone) which helped smooth things over.

Spoke with Apple. Said there is literally nothing they can do since it is all automated. Unfortunate, but at least my family will still get there's on time.

Looks like I'll have to stop by UPS and pick mine up when I get back to the States.

Hopefully everyone else who had this problem gets there's earlier than anticipated.

Careful Karma is a bitch, it might be moving you one spot closer to "Cancelled".:rolleyes:

Dave

With my luck I have no doubt but I am prepared lol

----------

It doesn't matter if I get it on launch day, I have gone years without it so extra few days or weeks don't make difference to me.

Op I can understand your frustration , I would want to be compensated someway , AT&T or apple goofed they should queue you up to the top on their list IMO

Same thing!!

Same thing happened to me!! I waited til 12:01 and kept refreshing the page to get my iphone right on my birthday, Sept 21!!
So devastating to get the cancellation email on the next day... I called ATT, they said I did a reversed order, buyer's remorse. (???!?!?)
I told them I didn't do anything other than placed an order.
She refered me to ATT online order. Another 20minutes on hold, only to be told that "Oh ... you ordered through apple.com, please contact them"
........
Called apple customer service, "Due to exceptionally high volume of calls.... bla bla bla.... thank you for calling Apple. beep...beep... beep....."
>.<

Im so lost.

Well... my faith is restored in Apple. I just received an email asking permission to re-instate my original order. Apple said the email they first sent me was in error and I should expect my new iPhone on Friday. I can't wait!

Hey, so I waited up until 12:01am PST. Ordered my brand new iPhone 5 and was incredibly stoked. I began counting down the days until 9/21.

I just checked my email and found this horrible message from Apple.

"Dear *********,

Thank you for your recent iPhone purchase at the Apple Online Store.

While processing your iPhone order, we encountered an issue with your
AT&T account. According to their records, the phone number associated
with this order has been recently upgraded. As a result, your iPhone
order has been canceled and you have not been charged.

If you think you’ve received this message in error, please contact AT&T
at 1-800-331-0500. Once the issue has been resolved, please visit
store.apple.com to place a new order. If you reply to this email with
your new order number, we will process your order as quickly as
possible.

Sincerely

The Apple Online Store"

Seriously Apple/AT&T? They said I was available for an upgrade when I first ordered it and I literally just checked my account again. Says it's available for an upgrade. If I order now though I won't get it until mid October, when I'm out of for a few weeks. I'm quite upset to say the least.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? And unfortunately waiting in line all night is most likely not an option as I have a job interview at 9am on Friday the 21st.

Thanks MacRumors.

I had a similar issue with my pre-order. I ordered around 3:30AM EST on 9/14, and got an e-mail confirming my pre-order as well as At&t taking the money out of my card around 4:30 AM (after stating my card wouldn't be charged until it was shipped). Long story short I noticed that other people whom have ordered later than me had their iPhones already shipped or already nearing getting shipped out and mine stayed as "processed" so I called AT&T and they gave some sob story about a glitch and how "it just happens sometimes''. In a nut shell i'm in the same boat being that my iPhone 4 on it's last legs also. SOL until 14-21 days Just when I thought AT&T couldn't possibly screw this up:rolleyes:

Order was cancelled a few days ago under similar circumstances, then I got this email an hour ago:

"Dear iPhone 5 Customer,

The cancellation email you received recently was sent by mistake. Rest assured, we fully intend to get your iPhone 5 to you on 9/21. We do, however, need your permission to reinstate this order.

Please reply to this email as soon as you can with your desire to reinstate your original order.

To ensure a 9/21 delivery date, we must receive your email reply by 5PM CDT (Central Daylight Time), Tuesday, September 18.

We know you're excited about receiving your new iPhone 5. So are we. We apologize for the inconvenience and confusion.

Sincerely,

The Apple Online Store"

I already went to Radio Shack to preorder. No longer have upgrade eligibility. Do I go and cancel my Radio Shack order and reinstate my Apple one? Feel like I'm just going to open myself to more headaches ugh

I also got an email from Apple saying my Verizon account has a past due balance which is absolute BS. They say if it's not resolved in 4 days they'll cancel the order, but it's already prepairing for shipment, so hopefully they don't f with it. Apple needs to get their system sorted out.

sucks. unfortunately not much you can do.

i would call and demand that your next months phone bill be courtesy of AT&T

What a bunch of bull

So I too pre ordered the iPhone 5 right after midnight on the 14th. Had no problems going through the ordering process and received a confirmation e-mail when I was complete. The next day I get this e-mail:

Thank you for your recent iPhone purchase at the Apple Online Store.

While processing your iPhone order, we encountered an issue with your
AT&T account. According to their records, the phone number associated
with this order has been recently upgraded. As a result, your iPhone
order has been canceled and you have not been charged.

First thing I do is check my order to see if it has been canceled. Sure enough the order was canceled on Sept. 15th. I then check my bank account, and see the money hasn't been taken out. Now onto finding out what happened.

I first call At&t to see if they show I'm eligible for an upgrade. They check their records and of course I'm eligible for an upgrade. They even go as far as telling me that this is a "known problem on Apple's end" and hundreds of customers have experienced the same issue.

So I jump on the phone with Apple now and try to get an answer to why they canceled my order. The rep from Apple tries to explain to me how phone contracts work and the most likely reason why my order was canceled was that I didn't qualify for an upgrade and that I need to buy an "unlocked version" which I can't order right now, because they don't have pricing for it. At this point I'm getting a little frustrated and ask to speak to a manager. Of course there is no manager to speak to and tells me to try pre ordering the iPhone 5 again.

I quickly realize that I'm not going to get anywhere on the phone. I hop in my car and head down to the At&t store. They show on their system that I'm fully eligible for an upgrade and the guy there also told me this is a "known problem on Apple's end". I asked for proof to show that I'm eligible for an upgrade, he couldn't provide me that, but told me to dial *new# on my current iPhone. I do that and get this text message:

As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2yr commitment and an $36 upgrade fee.

Ok cool, it shows that I'm eligible for an upgrade. Now off to the Apple store.

I get to the apple store and of course it's packed. My mission is to talk directly to a manager, so I show one of the employees the e-mail I got from apple and next thing I know Ross the store manager is there shaking my hand and asking to see the e-mail. He of course says he has never heard of this problem and goes into telling me that I should pre order the phone again and reply to the e-mail with my new order number so they can expedite my order. Already pretty frustrated at this point I went off on him, and told him that is bull **** and that I'm sure he has heard of this issue before and that I need this problem resolved. Ross has no answers for me and again tells me to go through the steps and pre order the phone again.

I head back home furious now and go online and try to pre order the phone again. going through the process I get a message saying that the order can't be processed because I'm not eligible for an upgrade. Back to Apple store I go. I try pre ordering the phone right there and get that same message. Now I get one of the Apple employees to get on the phone with the Apple online store. The Apple online store rep is showing that I can't upgrade also and that I need to contact my carrier. Apple employee informs the online store that the route has already been taken so we get transferred to the supervisor. The supervisor sees the problem and escalates the call to some special adviser for Apple. In the meantime I try dialing *new# on my phone again and the text message I get this time reads:

You may select equipment at our full retail pricing. An upgrade may be available on 04/17/2014

So now it's showing that I'm not eligible for an upgrade. Finally we get in touch with the special adviser and she tells us that the order is showing that it hasn't been canceled and that it is due to be delivered on 9/21. I log on to to check my order and sure enough the order is back up and shows the iPhone 5 will be delivered on the 21st.

I then receive this e-mail:

Dear iPhone 5 Customer,

The cancellation email you received recently was sent by mistake. Rest assured, we fully intend to get your iPhone 5 to you on 9/21. We do, however, need your permission to reinstate this order.

The Apple Online Store

After spending almost all day getting the run around, my order has now "magically" gone back to the status it should be at. I'm thoroughly pissed to say the least. Apple knows about this problem and like the rest of the giant mega corporations they just sweep it under the rug like nothing happened. It's a bunch of bull! Yeah I might get my phone when I was "suppose" to get it, but look at the headache it caused me and the rest of you with this same issue.

Nice to see apple attempting to get things right. Sucks it got screwed up in the first place, but at least they are not just totally boning you. Plenty of companies would. People are literally lining up for their product, and they are making and effort to sell it to those who made the early effort to get it.

I feel for you guys that have had bad luck.

Spoke with Apple. Said there is literally nothing they can do since it is all automated. Unfortunate, but at least my family will still get there's on time.

Yikes. I'm sure you'll enjoy your phone when you get it.

Heyyyyy I didn't get any reinstate email.... where's my order?!?!?!
*Cry cry

Don't worry, I haven't either. I'm just going to call them again today and ask they reinstate my order. Hopefully the fact I already ordered a new one (thinking they would push it through) makes this more difficult than it should be.

Also was told by the local apple store they normally don't sell out on the first day. May try that.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

Yup, I suggest you do this:
If you think you’ve received this message in error, please contact AT&T at 1-800-331-0500.

Not saying that it will magically solve the whole ordeal, and it sucks that you have to go through this, but at least give calling the number a try and see what happens. I'd also ask for a credit to my AT&T account for the inconvenience (assuming that this was caused by an error in their systems). Knowing how the AT&T service reps have been on the phone lately that should be no problem. I bet you can get the $36 upgrade fee waived (which you could do without this happening to you, I did) and an additional $50 or so in credit. Will it get you a day 1 iPhone 5? Probably not, but at least some good will come out of it.

Wow, that really sucks, glad you were able to get it resolved. I'm wondering if somehow the Apple servers were double tapping the AT&T accounts when they got overloaded and got a false negative because the Apple server had just pinged the AT&T server a few seconds prior.

Wait in line on the next day or the day after that. Bonus is it probably won't be as long and you won't have to queue up so early. That was what my plan was going to be if I didn't get a pre order in (cause I couldn't wait in line Friday either). Might be a few days but it's a lot better than a few weeks ;).

In the same boat

I also got my pre-order canceled. I ordered at 12:10am on the iPhone app and got the same email canceling around 11am on Saturday. I called ATT and Apple with no good resolution so I reordered on Saturday via the iPhone app and replied to the original email with my new order number with the hope the order would be expedited.

I haven't received the apology email yet so I wonder what will happen!?

Yeah I might get my phone when I was "suppose" to get it, but look at the headache it caused me and the rest of you with this same issue.

Received a call from At&t today. They wanted to know my order number from Apple. They are trying to track down the problem. They believe it's on Apple's end and Apple of course believes it's an At&t problem. I too thought it would most likely be an Apple problem. But the fact that At&t is calling people with this issue and also mentioned my upgrade fee would be waived, beginning to think differently.

I've only heard of this problem happening to people with At&t. Any Verizon or Sprint customers having the same issue?

If you use your current iPhone and click the link in your confirmation email for your orders' status, the screen that appears shows the reason.

Mine was canceled because someone (or the system) at ATT did not think I was eligible. I called premier and they looked at the order and said I did indeed qualify. They said they would restart the order and it would not loose its place.

So today I followed the link and it still shows cancelled. I called the premier folks and followed the phone tree. The recording that initially played said the order was processing and would ship in the next day.

So I presume they sorted it out. Perhaps they have assigned me a new order number not really sure. I will check tomorrow if nothing is different, I will cancel and go to ATT on Friday for a phone.

BTW...I have never received any cancellation email from AT&T

I also got an email from Apple saying my Verizon account has a past due balance which is absolute BS. They say if it's not resolved in 4 days they'll cancel the order, but it's already prepairing for shipment, so hopefully they don't f with it. Apple needs to get their system sorted out.

At least they gave you four days to resolve it. Sprint outright cancelled my order saying I owed them $14. They could have put that on the bill or at least called me.

Well, I finally got my issued resolved... Kind of.

So the reason mine was cancelled is someone did a reverse upgrade at 10:03am on Saturday the 15th. The only two people on the account, me and one other, were driving and talking to each other at that time. So I have no idea how someone managed that.

Anyways, after talking with AT&T for over 3.5 hours they finally said that while they could not reinstate my previous order, they would be able to send me one by next Monday-Wednesday. They also said they could give me a 64GB iPhone 5 for the price of the 32GB, and they would just credit my account the difference.

All-in-all I'm fine with this. Yes, I would have liked to simply had mine shipped to my house on Friday, but getting $100 off on the iPhone and only a few days later is okay with me too. It's before I go out of town which is all that matters at this point.
