I was doing the same strategy or thinking about it, to order online and buy it in store and cancel online order. So I had it in my cart at 5-7 shipping days, but then decided not to. I come back after reading and find out its 2-3 weeks, so I wonder if it adjusted in my cart and it hadn't so I ordered it 5-7 days. Will cancel if I get mine today at apple store.

32GB black with navy leather cover coming end of the month. Don't care, don't get it until my birthday in mid april anyway, though I think it's more of a treat for my wife who goes from no iPad to getting my iPad1.

I placed my order at 3:39AM EST. So I was probably one of the first orders. Here is my status.

Hummm.... going to have to check Sam's club today. Maybe they'll get some and everyone will be at Best Buy. :)

Otherwise, not looking good to get one anytime soon unless I get lucky.

Might have to get a Xoom.... plenty of those available. :p

I woke up at 2:58 AM CST and had it ordered by 3:10 I think. White 16GB WIFI. I got the 18th-25th date range to.

This is my first iPad!

you gotta admit: starting the sales online, then showing REALLY long shipping times, is gonna do a lot to drive people to the stores and cause media-attention-getting lines.
:apple: is getting better and better at this.

The lines at the Apple store are not that long so the marketing department is putting the 2-3 weeks line out there to force people to the retail stores.

Gotta love my wife. She's going to stand at Best Buy to get a ticket for me and all I have to do is give her my old iPad and buy her two cases for it... so my spot in line is costing me $700. Wow, now that I look at it that way I don't think I'm getting a good deal. But a happy wife is priceless (no nagging!)and now that she'll have one too she can b!tch at me for being on mine all thet time! :D

Hmm. My wife, who is still using her ORIGINAL iPhone despite my repeated offers to get her a new model as they came out, for some reason won't accept a hand-me-down of my original iPad. I'd buy an iPad 2, but I know, presuming so-called retina display, I'm going to want an iPad 3, as well. With her wanting a new one, whatever that mode will be by then, I'll have to buy two. I'll buy two 3s, but I won't buy two 2s. So I'm going to have to wait it out until next year. Not that I'm suffering or anything with my original iPad, but gee whiz. I think she's just tired of hand-me-down personal tech products, no matter her actual usage requirements, no matter I maintain my stuff about like new. Really, I can't blame her. I wouldn't want her hand-me-down iPad while she got a new model, even though if I didn't have an iPad at all, an original would be just fine for my uses.

The kids will get a banner March next year, I suppose.

Fast free shipping = Ships in 3-5 days: Delivers in 7-13?

I'm a little bummed as I really wanted this for a long trip and we leave home very early on the 24th - and my delivery estimate extends to the 25th.

I don't have time to line stand today so hopefully I'll either find one in a store after today (doubt it) or it will ship early.

BTW - I ordered White 64GB ATT 3G over the Apple Store app on my iPhone right after the 1AM PT opening - although it was in my cart fo another 5 minutes while I searched for my credit card for the verification number on the back. (Hey it was 3 in the morning here). I'm glad I woke up as I had intended to just order when I got up this morning and now everything says 2-3 weeks except for one Verizon model that I didn't want.

Without question this was their plan. Many people here have thrown in the "online" towel to go to the store.

My hope is that for those that are looking at the 3-5 day window, that maybe it will speed up a tad... (It surely would be interesting if after 5 PM Apple announces the shipping is expedited!)... but this is just a hope.

I am excited about the iPad 2 too, but I hope with all the stabs and jabs going on here that everyone is paying attention to what is happening in Japan this morning: much bigger news. :(

Ehh... if this is anything like the past iPad, iPhones then the shipping really is expedited. They ship them in a huge batch from China -> Alaska -> FedEx hub where they are broken apart into the individual shipments. So in reality it is expedited shipping... usually 2-3 days from the time it leaves China. But we'll see...

For some reason the Verizon 3G 16GB says 3-5 days but everything else shows 2-3 weeks.

I think a lot of people placed online order as backup and will probably cancel if they can get theirs from a store today or this weekend. So online order shipments will end up being quicker.

I just checked AT&T and they are $100 less even for Ipad 2. No contract. You do have to activate a data plan, but you should be able to cancel it after the first month. Still $75 less.

Update: Oops, silly me. That's the 32Gig, not the 64.

Apple having issues with the site me thinks.
