So much for checking local stores later and canceling.

Apple has charged my card (which according to their policy they only do when your item ships). No shipping notification yet but a good sign.

Ordered at around 351 est.

I'm sure Apple has only authorized your credit card for the full amount, not charged it. That is by law in the state of California. If you ordered a case (that will likely ship today), only that part of the order has been charged.

What the heck is the difference between charging and authorizing for the full amount? Both of them reduce my balance by the same amount and can't be reversed for a week.

You don't start paying interest (or start the grace period) on an authorization.

If you're riding close to your limit, then they're effectively the same I guess in terms of reducing your available credit.

It's a debit card. No interest concerns. Just not a fan of having 700 tied up in something I won't get for 7-14 days.

Use American Express, it will show up indefinitely as an authorization, and your funds will still be clear until it goes through.

Why not get all three at the store? WTH?

I'd rather not risk it. Besides I can always cancel the apple online order if I decide to pick up a second. Main thing was to order mine and hers. Hes got the iPad 1 and can wait. We used the online as our main option and the store as a backup.

Sounds like a good plan. If I had an Apple Store closer I would have done the same.

On a side note, for those who missed the first window:

The iPad 2 could well be on track to meet forecasts if online sales are an indication. Apple's web storefront is already listing shipping times between two and three weeks, despite the fact that sales started around 1AM Pacific time with shipping estimates of 3 to 5 business days.

Apple Continues to Dominate

man, u could have bought a xoom for that price

"Now, the coming months will bring a blizzard of tablets that are meant to compete with the iPad. And they’ll offer some juicy features that the iPad still lacks. On an Android tablet, you can speak to enter text into any box that accepts typing. You also get an outstanding turn-by-turn navigation app — and GPS maps are a different experience on a 10-inch screen. It’s like being guided to your destination by an Imax movie.

Furthermore, new Android tablets will be able to play Flash videos and animations on the Web, something that both Apple and Adobe (maker of Flash) assure us will never come to the iPad (or iPhone). Flash on a tablet or phone can be balky and battery-hungry, but it’s often better than nothing. Thousands of news and entertainment Web sites still rely on Flash, and the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch simply can’t display them.

But you know what? The iPad will still dominate the market, because it dominates in all the most important criteria: thinness, weight, integration, beauty — and apps.

Oh, yes, the apps: there are 65,000 apps already available for the iPad (not including the 290,000 iPhone apps that run at lower resolution on the iPad’s screen). But Google’s programming kit for tablets just came out, so there are very few apps written for larger Android screens.

The kicker, though, may be the price. Apple is at the top of its game these days — and at the top of the industry. The rap, of course, is that you often pay extra for Apple elegance.

But the shocker here, though, is that the iPad 2 actually costs less than its comparably equipped Android rivals, like the Xoom and the Samsung Galaxy Tab. That twist must have something to do with Apple’s huge buying clout — when you order five million of some component at a time, you can usually persuade the vendor to cut you a deal."

It was pouring when I got up this morning, so I decided not to go wait in line anywhere and just ordered from Apple.

32Gb Wi-Fi, Black, Black Leather Smart Cover, Camera Kit.

This is my first iPad - as others have said, I've been waiting a year for one, so what's a few extra days?

Maybe I'll just launch iTunes, head on over to the App Store and buy a few apps while I'm waiting!

Nice plan. That's what I did when I ordered my iPad online. I can wait on the shipping. . . still have my iPad to use in the interim.
