Hmm. My wife, who is still using her ORIGINAL iPhone despite my repeated offers to get her a new model as they came out, for some reason won't accept a hand-me-down of my original iPad. I'd buy an iPad 2, but I know, presuming so-called retina display, I'm going to want an iPad 3, as well. With her wanting a new one, whatever that mode will be by then, I'll have to buy two. I'll buy two 3s, but I won't buy two 2s. So I'm going to have to wait it out until next year. Not that I'm suffering or anything with my original iPad, but gee whiz. I think she's just tired of hand-me-down personal tech products, no matter her actual usage requirements, no matter I maintain my stuff about like new. Really, I can't blame her. I wouldn't want her hand-me-down iPad while she got a new model, even though if I didn't have an iPad at all, an original would be just fine for my uses.
The kids will get a banner March next year, I suppose.
