The whole delivery date thing is a total farce this time. My 42mm SS ML arrived on 24th and the 38mm Sport WSB that I ordered yesterday, charged this morning, preparing for shipment with an original delivery estimate of June...

Looking out of the window because I thought there was a truck, then noticed my neighbour giving me a weird look. She must have thought I was staring at her out of the window :eek::eek:

Goddamn it UPS!

my card was charged 2 days ago but my order is still processing!!! i keep checking my order like every other hour and its so frustrating!! my order isn't due until the 12 May, 2015 - 26 May, 2015, but surely if i my card has been charged something must be happening!! I ordered the 42space grey sport!

Very frustrating, as I ordered exactly the same thing with a confirmation email coming through at 08:05:03 and haven't even had my card charged yet :(

That sucks :(

I have an expectation that the time we see on the emails doesn't precisely correspond to the internal database understanding of the chronology of our purchases.

They're going to have lots of web servers hosting the store application, they will be dumping the purchases into a queue processing system of some kind, which probably has multiple worker machines going through the queue in the order things were placed onto the queue, processing and accepting the purchases. Therefore the time at which each purchase is processed/accepted, depends on both the precise time it was placed *and* the precise time it was dumped into the queue.
It's also quite likely that the workers are then dumping instructions to send out confirmation emails into another queue, which another set of workers will be processing and sending out the emails. Furthermore, email is an inherently cranky system, where there's little to no guarantee that any email server will process things in any expected order. That means that the precise timestamp on a given purchase confirmation email depends on the precise time the purchase was made, the precise time it was dumped into the purchase queue, the precise time it was processed/accepted, the precise time it was then dumped into the email confirmation queue *and* the precise time the email server(s) dispatched the email.

In short, to operate something at this scale, you almost certainly need a distributed system. The first thing you learn about distributed systems is that they are really hard to build, and you have to make certain trade-offs to be able to succeed at building them. One of those trade-offs is precise, universal co-ordination.

I doubt any of that makes you feel any better about not having a Watch on your wrist, but it may go some way to explaining why the dispatch order doesn't necessarily correspond to the email times. It should generally be pretty close, but it's unlikely to be perfect.
(and I didn't at all address the likely lack of precise, universal co-ordination in the supply chain. It's quite possible that the exact Watch you are going to get, is decided at the factory in China, making you also at the mercy of whether or not it fit into a particular pallet load going onto a specific plane)

I would be onto them as you shouldnt get charged until its ready for dispatch is the way I've read how it works

Thing is, they are trying to go in order, but stock across the range isn't being built at the same rates.

So those with the less desired watches are getting faster dispatch whereas the others are having to wait longer. 38mm is a good one if you want one sooner. I got 2 sent to me within the week.

Charged! Just now! 8:05:39 order of 38mm SG! Still processing on Apple Store webpage...
Just moved into "Preparing for Dispatch" (I was in the 12th May - 26th May window, though just marginally I guess...).

Just been charged... and Preparing for Dispatch

Been keeping an eye on it so it is happening...

They aren't going in the same order even across ranges though. There was one guy in this thread with a June delivery date on the 42mm ASW SGS who received theirs on launch day. Yet people on this thread with the same watch in the initial 24.04 to 08.05 delivery range remain in processing hell

turns out they haven't taken payment, people on apple chat just love to speculate though

Got my watch today, it's awesome.

First thing I did was to draw a picture of a knob and send it to a friend lol #
