Thanks for all the words of wisdom guys, I feel much better about my ridiculously expensive purchase, if only it would hurry up and get here though! 2-3 day shipping my arse.

Wow, I am in the EXACT same spot you are in. I also ordered a 17" antiglare and it's coming next week but I am not sure I made the right screen choice. I'm mostly going to use it for textbased stuff unless it's Hulu or YouTube clips. So not quite sure.

I do web design and software dev. For software I use Xcode, Photoshop, Fireworks, VM for Windows. I'll be indoors 99% of the time. The colors are more vivid on the glossy but I won't be using it primarily for watching feature length movies or photos, both more of a secondary thing. Is it true that eyestrain is a problem for long periods of text viewing or is that not an issue?

Also unsure of i5 or i7 for the uses I described.

Any help on both screen and processor according to my usage is highly appreciated!

If you're crunching away on various design packages, the i7 is your better bet, photoshop especially will fly faster.

I've got a 17" core i7 with 4gb ram and the AG screen - it is quite simply AWSOME in every single way, love it

I'd far rather have truer colours and a way better pixel depth over the pop of the glossy! If I want to watch a film, I'll just watch my TV/DVD - that's what thats for!

The high res AG screen is amazing, you wont be dissapointed one bit

enjoy!

iam surprised that you are not getting comments 17 is too big.

17" is freakin amazing, once youve had one for any length of time, anything smaller feels totally cramped.

Not too big or heavy at all, just get a decent bag

Trust me, you won't regret antiglare... I don't understand why people are so obsessed with glossy, Antiglare looks sharper and clearer to me yet more subdued if that makes sense... glossy just is bright and the reflections drive me f'n nutz on my 13 mpb. I can't even stand to watch a movie on it b/c of the reflections.

I agree with the majority here.. anti glare is the one to get. especially if you'll be doing lots of picture editing n stuffs.. It's the best looking screen out there as well.. when other laptops mostly will be showing glare/reflections, your mbp will just show clear image of whatever is showing on your screen. I had a glossy mbp before, and now really enjoying the anti glare on my new 17". The screen is just fantastic. Maybe Apple can make it better by using IPS screen, but at the moment, it is the best. Love the silver bezel as well, just wish that apple offer a silver keyboard for the anti-glare mbp. that would be perfect for me! ;)

you'd probably regret returning the anti glare once some sun hits your screen. you made the right decision!

I have a 24" white iMac, so it has a matte screen as standard. I also got an early unibody 13" Macbook before it earned the Pro title.

The glare on the laptop is incredibly annoying, even indoors. I will not be getting another iMac until they offer a matte version of that.

Working in the evenings it is bad enough with the reflective screen, and that is with indirect light from an uplighter. In the daytime it is unusable if the sun comes out (window to the side only, sun not on the laptop itself). I have to wear a dark top and hover over the screen to see anything.

Don't even like the reflections on my iPhone. Got an anti-glare screen cover, but that makes the display slightly grainy, and there are small glints of colour whenever I move my head even slightly. So an anti-reflective shield is not a solution.

Anti-glare is best.

I have the 17 inch with the AG screen and got it because I use it for photo editing and photo pros will tell you the they all use AG screens for more accurate colors. The glossy screen makes colors pop too much for photo and video editing use. I don't regret my decision for one second.:)

I ordered the 15" anti-glare, and regretted it the second I started using it, as I thought the colors were not as rich as other Macs I had seen, and I liked the black border, which is not present on the machine.

Fortunately, as I continued to use it I realized that I made the right decision. The screen is still gorgeous, and colors do look great. I think the computer looks better without the black border, and it also looks unique, as everyone else has the computer with the black border. And third, I can use it in any lighting and it looks fantastic at all times.

I recommend anti-glare to everyone now, and I am so happy I have it on my computer.

the anti glare is out of step with apple current design direction. the video that was played when apple switched to the unibody al and glass was breathtaking. probably apples best design work. however the anti glare is in line with the old powerbook look and a great screen.

Every day I am wowed by my antiglare HR screen. Sometimes the colors are a little too vibrant and I have to turn down the brightness level...so I dunno, how much more crisp do you want these colors?

Hey guys, sorry for leaving you hanging like that!

So I've had my MBP now for about 3 weeks or so, and I freaking LOVE IT. Anti-glare and all. The screen is truly beautiful and I have 0 regret. Everything about this Macbook is exceeding my expectations, very satisfied first time Mac owner, and this is coming from a HUUUGE Windows nerd.

Anyhow, no regret in getting AG now, although I still do get curious as to how my laptop would look had I gone Glossy, although I never care enough to ponder upon that thought for more than a second or two.

I just got the 17" i7 AG. I love it! Was nervous about the screen before, but when I turned it on and saw how amazing it was I was completely relieved and more than satisfied with it. It's probably the nicest display I've ever used. Was also worried that the 17" would be too big........it's not! :D

Welcome back!

Glad you like matey, amazing machine huh :D

there is a lot of negativity on here about the 17 but its the most expensive ultimate mbp that apple makes. i think the negativity comes from the fact its a desktop placement and not a true portable and for many people thats a deal breaker. so if you dont plan on moving it around too much enjoy the ultimate mbp and the biggest.

Well my current laptop is a Dell Inspiron 9400 which is 17" and a lot thicker/heavier than a 17" MBP. I should be fine, I have had little problems with this machine being lugged around in my Targus carrying bag.

You've got to think the MBP 17" is absolutely feathery compared to that beast.

Please...please don't pay much heed to anyone who tells you the 17" isn't portable. Guys like you and I who have carried massive brick laptops understand what it means to not be portable. The 17" is tiny in comparison, especially being as powerful as it is. It's more than portable.
