Delivery estimates mean nothing until you get the tracking number from FedEx by the way... You should get a tracking number and you should get the package the day after FedEx does... Next Day Shipping has NOTHING to do with Apple. It can take them 3 weeks to finish it and get it to FedEx and they are still in the clear here. Your issue is with FedEx AFTER FedEx gets the MBP. If it takes 2-3 days to get it once they have it then you complain to them... NOT Apple.

This excludes holidays and weekends... Sunday is the only day they don't deliver I believe so Next Day could take 2 days.

I have hope for some of humanity.

so many unreasonable people who focus on misconceptions. They mis interpret something and everyone else is wrong.

I agree with the OP.

"Next day shipping" = I expect to have it the next day, at least after the day it ships.

You don't read very well when you build a custom configured machine do you? If you order a stock machine, and you order before the shipping time cutoff...you'll likely get your machine next day. If you don't read, then you won't.

It is logistically improbable for something to ship from a factory in China and arrive at your doorstep the next day. To have something arrive from China in less than 3 days is pretty good going in my opinion.

Laptop ordered from Apple.com on 12/22. Extra money paid for "Next Day Shipping."
Receipt says unit should ship in 1 - 3 days and be delivered between December 29 and January 3.

First call to Apple: "I paid for next day shipping."
"Yes, but your computer is a special order, we have to build it from the ground up."
"But I paid for next day shipping."
"Yes, but we don't keep special order units in stock. We need to build it before we can ship it."
"But I paid for next day shipping. That's pretty much it isn't it? You said I could get next day shipping if I pay extra, I paid extra, and I'm not getting it the next day."
"Because we need to build it."
"So, what is 'next day' about the shipping."
"When it ships, it will go Federal Express."
"So, next day shipping means that when you get around to shipping it, you'll send it overnight?"
"Yes."

Shipping notice comes on 12/26. Estimated delivery date: 12/29.

Second call to Apple. "I paid for next day shipping on 12/22. The unit shipped on 12/26, but it says it wont be delivered until 12/29."
"Yes, it has to come from China."
"Sure, but why does it say 'next day shipping' if it was shipped the next day or delivered the day after it was shipped?"
"We needed to build the unit special order. Special orders can't ship in a day."
"But I paid for next day shipping. Apple's website has an option for next day shipping. People assume 'next day' means 'next day'."
"Yes, but the unit is coming from China. It's the next business day."
"It shipping on 12/26. What is the next day after 12/26."
"It's . . ."
"12/27. 12/27 is the next day after 12/26, right?"
"Yes."
"But I'm not going to get my unit until 12/29. That's not the next day, is it?"
"No."
"This is pretty easy stuff isn't it? Next day means next day. It's nice to know that Apple is the new Microsoft."

If you want it so bad, why don't you go to China and pick it up from the factory?

Well, if they offer next day shipping, it's their problem to make sure they can fulfill the order. What the OP failed to note is that the "next day" starts from when the built to order product is ready to ship, not from the order date.

Has anyone noted that Apple say "Next Day SHIPPING"? To me, that means they ship it the next day, not have it arrive at your doorstep.

I agree with the OP.

I ordered my MBP (in stock, NOT custom) on the 21st with expedited shipping (1-3 days).
Estimated Delivery is on December 28th, 12:00pm.
It shipped out on the 22nd at 11:00am.

- 22nd [Day count: 0] (Business day, but lets be nice and assume the 22nd doesn't count as a day)
- 23rd [Day count: 1] (Business day)
- 24th [Day count: 1] (Saturday, assuming it's not a business day even though the Fedex website says expedited deliveries are made on Saturdays)
- 25th [Day count: 1] (Christmas, holiday)
- 26th [Day count: 1] (Boxing Day, another holiday)
- 27th [Day count: 2] (Business day... finally!)
- 28th [Day count: 3] (Business day, and also estimated delivery date!)

At this point, I think I've been quite generous. I obviously understand what business days are, I obviously understand what holidays are, and I obviously understand that shipping and delivery are two different things.

If I'm told 1-3 days, it should be here in 1-3 day from the day it's shipped.
If it arrives by the 28th, then it's all good. But if it doesn't arrive by the 28th, then it exceeds the "1-3 days" and it would be considered a late delivery. Right?

That's what the OP said as well, and I think a lot of you missed that.
He paid for NEXT DAY shipping. Yea it's custom built (stupid) so it'll take a few days before it's shipped (reasonable)... but once it's shipped... next day shipping should be NEXT DAY. Anything else is considered failure, and I don't see why people don't see that.

Has anyone noted that Apple say "Next Day SHIPPING"? To me, that means they ship it the next day, not have it arrive at your doorstep.

And by this logic, unless the retailer decides to never ship it... isn't everything considered "next day SHIPPING" then? If so, then why have the premium option?
I understand the battle of semantics, and the technical difference between shipping and delivery date, but I'm pretty sure the way "shipping" is being used here alludes to expected delivery date as well.

Anyone who disagrees is being kinda silly...

First world problems. Seriously. Shut the hell up and enjoy your $3000 laptop and consider yourself lucky as all %$&*. You people disgust me.

While the OP is right about Apple's terminology, anyone who expects a macbook to be magically teleported from China to their front porch overnight deserves to be parted from his money.

"the day after it ships"... reading comprehension 101. ;)

Well, I ordered my new MBP on Nov 25th, it shipped USPS Priority on the 30th ... and I STILL do not have it.

I'm sorry your delivery is taking so long, but just be thankful if yours at least gets to you (and isn't stolen like mine most likely is).

Have you made contact with Apple to sort that out? If it's gone missing and Apple have concluded their investigation into it, they should have sent out another one for you.

I assume by your unrealistic expectations and literal thought process that you are single and most likely never been married.

How did you even get the offer for Next Day Shipping on a BTO? I've ordered a ton of BTO stuff over the years, and have never seen a Next Day Shipping option.

When I go to buy a stock 15" MBP online at the Apple Store, it shows "In Stock", and the option for "Next business day shipping available".

However, when I add RAM or change the HDD (making it a BTO), it immediately changes to "Ships: 1-3 business days", and the "Next business day shipping available" disappears.

When I go to pay for the BTO, the two shipping options are:
Standard Shipping -- Free
2-3 Business Days -- $18.00

I might be missing your point, but your example only has 3 business days

NM -- this thread is going nowhere. OP made mistakes based on assumptions. Apple apparently made a mistake in offering next day on a BTO. Just out of curiosity I'd like to see a screenshot of the order but even that wouldn't really matter.

The point I was trying to make was that if expedited shipping is supposed to take 1-3 days, then after the third day it would be considered as late, right? Just like how the OP is saying next day shipping is supposed to be next day, anything after it should be considered as late too, right?

LOLZ!

ill bet this guys facebook is spammed to hell with complaints on this. seriously, i spent the same amount you did and ordered the same way. only difference is.... I KNEW THEY HAD TO MAKE IT.... IN CHINA! you know... where apple ships BTO mac's from when you order them online. seriously, its my first macbook ever and you couldnt even figure this out? do you have your MBP now? Is everything okay? or would you rather ship it back to china and start over?

Where did you order it from? I'm assuming it wasn't direct from Apple because the Apple Store doesn't ship USPS Priority Mail, it's always either UPS or FedEx. Have you contacted the shipper to find out what's going on? With priority mail there's the option of delivery confirmation, and I would that that whoever was shipping it to you would have gotten that on such an expensive piece of equipment. No tracking information?

Weather is an issue in shipping as well because if the weather is bad they may not be able to move it as quickly. I have had a few deliveries delayed as a result of icy roads. It is winter so I would at least give it a couple days before going off the deep end.

I ordered it from the Apple online store, shipped via an Apple-authorized APO reshipper because Apple won't ship directly to military addresses. It has a DC#, but USPS doesn't give "live" tracking info, only "sent" and "received," etc. So when I look up the #, it just says that it was sent on the 30th.

After a month there is no way a Priority package is still in transit, so it was stolen. But I can't file an insurance claim until 1/16, and even then I won't get the shipping costs back ... yea, USPS is the devil! They steal my computer then won't refund me the shipping costs, lol.

Apple won't do anything, of course, but I didn't really expect them to. At this point, I won't get a computer until sometime in February ... and at that point, I'm highly considering WAITING since rumors are the new MBPs will be out in May/June.

Ah, ok...that makes more sense. I was really confused about why it was shipped USPS, but now I get it. I'm sorry it's gone missing :( I hope you get everything taken care of and get a nice shiny new MBP sometime in the not-too-distant future!
