I bought the 3G in November and still had my 1st gen for a little while until I eventually sold it. I still used 1st gen as an ipod. I missed the aluminum casing though. I wish I had stayed in my 1st gen contract, since I also feel the 3G wasnt a signifigant upgrade. Still not having 3G in my area adds to that. Two days ago I sold my 3G in anticipation for iPhone 2009. Please :apple: dont fail me now!

I second that notion...
3G can be slow.....so I still don't know how you 1st gen folks have the patience to wait on Edge. To me, the speed increases were worth it, but overall..it was hardly an upgrade, so you're right. I hope this year's iphone will be significantly upgraded, though I know it wont be. Hopefully I can eat my words on monday.

Why offer the whole 'sha-bang' now when you can string the upgrades through out time? I mean, if Apple wants to continue keeping it's iPhone ahead of the game, then it's going to have to implement upgrades each year that trump the competition by a long shot. It's funny though, we've only had ONE refresh in the history of the iphone, so all this speculation is up for grabs. It'd be nice if Apple would put out the very best and latest technology available to them each year and push themselves to work harder to top themselves the following year and so on, but at the rate that the iphone was updated last year (3G, which it already should have had, and minor cosmetic changes)....it doesn't look like that's happening just yet, but we'll find out on Monday.

I sold it to a friend for $25 since it just sat in a junk drawer since i got the 3G, he only had it for about a month, then he dropped it in a sink full of water, dumbass.

Great thread!

Mine is sitting in my closet. It contains some sentimental messages and I decided to keep it for that reason.

my original iPhone's screen stopped responding to touch back in march, applecare sent me a new one, use it everyday, though in a month when my contract is up I will be saying goodbye to iPhone, at least for awhile....
