My 1st gen just drowned in beer last weekend, I had given it to my wife, so instead of getting another 1st gen we went ahead and upgraded her to the 3G model, with the understanding that if a new one comes out this summer, she doesn't get to upgrade again! ;)

Well, I had my 1st Gen From Launch, and the day the 3G cam out, it went straight into the box and hasn't been out since. I will be doing this with my 3G next month, and hopefully all of the future iphone models that i buy, and at the minute, i have no plans to change to another model of phone.

Come to think of it, a few years down the line, this may be one hell of a collection.

Used it for a year, unlocked it and sold it for more than what I paid for it one year earlier.

I will be upgrading- I skipped the 3g, and my original phone is working / looking great in its case- and I will be putting it back in its box and putting it on the shelf to show my kids so they can make fun of it some day. :D

Amen. Though the one I have now is a replacement, I use it and love it. Even if the box and phone serial numbers don't match, I look forward for being made fun of someday by my kids when technology blows away my revolutionary 2007 iPhone. I've kept every accessory and all the wrapping off everything so I can repackage it and keep it for myself. I'm anal like that. :)

Mine is working perfectly and is in great condition. Going to say my farewell to it though for a new iPhone this year I think.

Gave mine to a friend as I upgraded to the 3G. (Moved from Germany to the Netherlands and therefore needed a new cell phone contract.)

Sold original iphone on ebay

I sold my original iPhone on Ebay for a nice profit, to buy the then just released iPhone 3G. I will trying to do the same thing again this year but I don't know if my profit margin will be as high. The original one I had sold for $500 last year which gave me more than enough to buy the 3G iPhone and some accessories.

gave it away

Got original iphone on release day, upgraded for free on July 11th 08 and gave it to a relative same day. He still uses it daily and has no probs with it.

follow up question

I've got a 1st gen iphone and am going to upgrade to the new hardware this summer. I'm planning on giving my old iphone away to a friend of mine to use as an ipod touch. My question is this: Can he reset the phone and use it as an ipod without having a sim card in it? He has no plans to use it as a phone. I didn't know if it is possible for him to take it, reset it and use it without it having a card in it.

Any help is appreciated!

still use the heck out of it. Love it.

I didn't upgrade to 3G because there is wifi everywhere I go, and I didn't like the plastic case.

He must be a very good friend! I don't know the answer to your question though.

lost it 3 weeks ago in the galapagos islands :(

wasn't planning on upgrading, but now i have no choice. here's hoping for a matted back!!

Still have my iphone 1st gen 16gb ipod. My sister has my original 1st gen 8gb iphone. I love my 16gb and its seen some where and tear. Now it has a case to cover it to last me until i'm done with school.

Still using it,

It will become my dad's iPod touch when I buy the new one. I skipped the iPhone 3g.

And after my dad is done with it, I plan on keeping it along with my 9 old phones. Like others have said I want to show my kids someday all my old phones, that is if they have an interest in digital history.
