Mavericks to me is like gem. Was frustrated bye the lagging of MBPr and now it's 96% gone. Buttery smooth safari....love it.
And battery life increased too.:)

I agree completely, 2008 macbook pro is like new with this update from Snow Leopard, I can't believe the Safari transformation, this operating system is awesome, reminds me of when I left Windows because of Vista and moved to Apple Leopard/Snow Leopard.

Apple deserves credit with this OSX, if they keep this up they will not have a problem in maintaining dominance.

The only big problem has been Mail, especially for people using Exchange and Gmail. It generally sucks, but this is not different from other OS versions...
Granted I've only been using Maverick for 3 days, I haven't run into any issue with Mail using both Gmail and Exchange. Am I just lucky?

Yeah I gotta echo the sentiments that Mavs runs great on my i5 Mac Mini 2012. I did a clean install and not an upgrade. For me if it's a new OS release then it's a clean install. If it's just an update to the current OS then I just perform the update. I rarely run into problems that way.

Same here. I clean installed on my 2011 MBP and Mavericks runs like a dream.

@rdallas, after nearly a month, how is your computer doing? Did you re-install the previous OS or did you find the problem? If you found the problem, what was the cause of the computer's issues?

Thanks,

Same here. In Gmail most people like to get away with GIANT Inboxes and then wonder why Mail is giving them fits on Gmail IMAP. If they took the time to save email in boxes and get to Inbox Zero especially using IMAP!

Plus in Gmail IMAP getting people don't seem to know that Gmail custom labels do NOT work so they have to be turned off in Gmail Web Settings for IMAP.

Mavericks runs lile a champ on my new Mini i7 16 GB. Also Mavericks runs OK on my 2008 iMac C2D 4 GB ( considering the age of hardware). Found more beachballing when I upgraded but things seem to have settle down for a little while so it runs good. BTW, the iMac always been upgraded to new OS since Leopard, never done a clean install.

these posts are starting to sound like a broken record!
"Mavericks screwed up my system"...."Mavericks suck"...."now my Mac is much slower"....then we have "nothing wrong with Mavericks"..."works like a charm on my Mac"...."best thing since sliced bread"....
I wish I had the answer why some upgrades work just fine and others don't, mine belong in the latter category, never had any serious problems.
And yes, to just make a blanked statement "Mavericks suck", or "why did Apple release a buggy OS", really make no sense, because if those are true, then we ALL would be having problems.
Again, I do feel for those that are experiencing problems, nothing worse than having major issues with your Mac, but logic tells me that there must be other issues with those troublesome Mavericks upgrades/installations than just "Mavericks sucks".

how about...

some people use their macs for content creation or in complicated set-ups and have uses for advanced features of a program/OS, while someone who web browses and does word processing won't run into specific work-case issues.

if you don't use any peripherals you will never suffer from a driver/incompatible hardware issue after an upgrade

if you only use out of the box software you will never have a bug with photoshop or logic pro

if you don't have a network share with an extensive file structure you don't into the SMB issues

if you didn't notice feature x,y,z was removed you won't miss it

You just confirmed why the issues aren't entirely the fault of the OS. Some people do have complicated setups and create their own nightmare when deciding to just upgrade the whole system.

makes sense, however, then I've read posts where users have done a clean install and still say it is causing problems, thing is, we don't know their whole setup, peripherals etc as you've mentioned.
I still maintain, overall Mavericks is fine and not a buggy nightmare, based on my own experience. All three Apple Mac's we own run Mavericks, two have been upgraded, i.e., not a clean install, only our new iMac came pre installed with Mavericks.
Apart from a somewhat buggy Mail using it with Gmail on my Mac Mini, which was fixed early on, and the odd beachball, which I now have not seen for quite a while, it's been a trouble free operation and continues to be so.

mervericks OS X ...sucks.

i used to Have OS X SNOWleopord on my MBP..it was awesome . Now i upgraded to Merverick ....i Really wondered that before installation i don't need to any thing but it was too long to finish and even after finishing installation i lost partition of my DISK which holds upto 50 GB space ...i cannot find it anyway and not even repair the disk image .

Can anyone help me to sort out this problem to get my partition on macbook pro ..

Thanks in Adv

There is nothing about a Mavericks install that will delete a partition. What sometimes happens is you have a hard drive that is close to failure and the stress of an OS install kills the drive.

So what state are you in now? Can you boot to Mavericks? Can you command-r boot to the recovery partition and use Disk Utility from there to check the disk for errors?

What kind of backup do you have we can use to get you running again?

Can you explain how you had partitions setup before the Mavs install?

Not to be mean, but if you expect good help then you're going to need to use better grammar and more detail. I have only a very rough idea of what your problem is.

If you expect people to take the time to respond thoughtfully, then you should put in the time to describe your problem, thoughtfully.

Maverick IS a scandal.

It's a "free" SSW oriented towards iCloud.

You can't anymore :

:( Share locally an iPhoto directory on your LAN,
:( Synchronize locally your iPhone,
:( Use AirPlay on a 2,66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon !!!!
Plus, it is not as stable as it should,
Mail is a fail,

etc.

And, it is deliberately extremely difficult to go back to Moutain Lion.

Outrageous and mean, is'nt it ?

Want an advice ?

DO NOT MOVE TO MAVERICKS !

A class action in a next future ?

"Steve ! Come back, they got mad...."

None can help you mavericks is your worst nightmare go back to snow

Sorry to hear the issues OP, but for me, Mavericks has been rock solid and stable. I think your experience is not typical of the average upgrader. I know that's little consolation for you.

FWIW, I did not go the clean install route but the upgrade

Same here, upgraded mid-2012 MBP and works fine.

I can see the headlines now... iCloudgate!

Hate Mavericks on mid-2012 MBP

Why Mavericks sucks.
-Continually won't connect to WiFi and I need to do in manually.
-Newest iMovie was found to be unable to finalize or share.
-I finally went back to a previous TimeMachine save and I'm back at Mountain Lion and much happier.

STAY AWAY FROM MAVERICKS!

Why Mavericks sucks...?

- Printer sharing always loses connectivity from the host Mac even though WiFi is enabled and steady. Occasionally have to turn WiFi off and on again from the host Mac to re-enable printer sharing.

STAY AWAY FROM MAVERICKS!

PS: This should be a standard template for people to lash out why Mavericks sucks... :p:p

Mavericks has been pretty sluggish on my 2012 MBP. Things improved a bit when I uninstalled GROWL and uninstalled and reinstalled Google Chrome.

Perhaps the most frustrating thing about Mavericks now (on my machine) is that the lag on the powersaving features... (eg. system is sitting, screen is still on, but no key pressed or mouse moved, it takes a few seconds for the keyboard to "wake up")... which seems to have gotten worse with each iteration... Lion, Mountain Lion, and now Mavericks.

Apparently that is "working as designed" :(

I am debating Mavericks on my moms iMac. It's about 4-5 years old (off hand can't remember what model, I think the last of the more square shaped ones). And reading doing a fresh install for it seems too involved, and I know nothing about it so if she has issues I can't help her as easy. I am doing a fresh install of Mountian Lion for her tomorrow.
If I did install mavericks, since mountain lion is a fresh install, would an upgrade to mavericks be ok?

Worked fine on my 2009 MacBook Pro with a quick shutdown in 2 seconds or so.

Clean install on my 2010 5.1 Mac Pro Hex, on shutdown get a grey screen for at least 30 seconds sometimes more. That is with no programs installed.

Tried everything I know anybody got any ideas?
