I really don't think a flat design would look too bad on OS X. I'm looking forward to the preview. When's the unveiling? :)

ack ...

Apple sure like their iOS style......

They did say "...By bringing iOS back to the Mac." They never mentioned "bringing everything back to the mac"

The second one looks more likely to happen... and if true, that's gonna be a shame... If would then be like a Surface...

ick.. what a terrible thought...

Remember how people hated iOS 7 because of the huge change, the all the winging stopped, and people came to accept it... (i would actually say in part they had no choice because you couldn't downgrade even if you wanted to)

A surface is just a laptop with a strange design... Windows 8 is an issue but for the most part it's because they built on top of Windows 7 rather than revising it.

ya exactly, so my point was it would be then like Apple building on top of OS X with iOS features..

Its already happening now... with Notification, Maps, Books etc...

How much more iOS-ey can you get ?

Just like with the OS X customer preview to all customers.. they should do this with 10.10... I'll try it

I reckon this "letting all customers bang on these" is the best idea APple ever did.... They get want they want, and so do users.

It's a win, win, situation.

Is it me or is continuing to have the "music" and "movies" folder pointless on OS X? I'm citing the fact that iTunes commandeer's the music and movies into it's own folder within the "Music" folder.

I'd like to see a iTunes folder already built it.

If you make music, it’s not pointless. Both GarageBand and Logic “commandeer” its own folder within Music. Not everyone is simply a consumer. :p

Hate to say this but this design is looking more like Office, with the ribbon (u can imagine it can't you)..

Maybe just the coffee talking, but while we all quibbled over iOS7 new look, it may be the same here now too with the desktop.

Thank heaps Apple :p If Apple just stuck with the "feature set" I don't really care how much of the iOS stuff there is, it will be just bloated to me since i never use any of them on the desktop..

But as soon as the desktop starts to sway ? That's it... I may grab the preview, if Apple offers it to non-developers, but i'll think about upgrading.

If this is real, then i hate it... but i could either see Apple changing this, or based on feedback, stick an "old style" option in to switch back...

In which case, it would them be exactly like Windows.

I for one welcome any changes. I've found myself moving towards windows 8 due to it's slick interface, and I feel dirty doing it. I know Apple can design a really nice interface but at the moment it is stale.

I really like how Windows 8 background image colour pallet "comes through" into the transperant window headers/borders. I don't care how flat Apple make 10.10. I am more interested in getting rid of that dull grey color I see everywhere. PLEASE apple, let us have a few controls for the color scheme.

Also get rid of the round corners! That to me just looks silly and childish when all our screens have square corners. Slight texturing on the grey? that is stupid too. Why do that? The less extra crap the better. Bubble styled buttons also must go.

I think the more that computers/apps mature, the less we care about redundant over-styled designs, and the more we care about removing clutter and making things clear and logical. The OS is a tool after all... save the experimental designs for games.

Awful Awful Awful

What is wrong with people??
The principles behind this awful flat look is to make for a streamlined and easy to use UI, however, this is all undone by being a stark, bland and ugly view.
We now have high-res screens capable of displaying so much and we are given this drivel. To my eyes it's awful and ugly, if it is this bad I will not be updating.

Designers bang on about how flat UI's are scaleable and easier to translate from desktops to tablets and phones - hmm, Apple became the success they are in part by putting the users first with intuitive and elegant designs, not making things easier for programmers; that was Microsoft's domain.

Designers - get over this awful fad and give us something that isn't stark and ugly.
