Aren't bitmaps bigger in size than "flat" SVG models? I'm not talking about complex 3D models, it would be just a few, 2D edges. How can this translate into big svg files?
Was talking about the first statement not the second.

Not really. iOS 7 icons make be a bit... strange but they fulfill 4 things that they needed.
Unique - the icons are very unique as they don't mimic any icons found prior (maybe maps)
Eye-catching - these icons are bright and pop
Trend setting - iOS icons now follow a simple gradient/solid color and a recognizable unique icon trend
Must look good with translucency - and they do, just check out control center and notification center when pulled over the home screen
The old ones were quite opposite since they mimic OS X (which was a good idea overall, I think)
The icons make have look different but if they "fixed" them to look like the icons on Android or various design websites they wouldn't be unique, now would they.
The safari icon could use some work though.. maybe less white?
The icon design template is not what I have an issue with. The issue is with the inconsistent stock icon designs. You have icon designs that range from:
- Gradient light/dark
- Gradient dark/light
- Actual flat icons
I thought Jony Ive was supposed to be a complete perfectionist but it seems like he has no idea what he's doing when it comes to UI design.
The problem with iOS 7's UI (not just the icons) from the very beginning to now, is that many UI elements are very inconsistent with each other. I hope maybe they will refine and flesh out the UI design a bit better for iOS 8 because I understand that 7 was rushed out prematurely.
Does anyone get that the UI would be boring if the gradients were the same? Also, Jony Ive never called the interface flat... so it's not flat.
I was referring to some of the icons. I have nothing against the gradients per se, but the icon designs are really all over the place and don't flow very well with each other. I always thought of Jony Ive to be a guy who likes consistency in his designs.
If the icons were done better and more consistent, I don't think they would be "boring" as you put it, it would be a better designed home screen UI. It would look less nosey and more harmonious.
How can it be called 10.10???? 10.10 is the same number as 10.1!!!!
It has to be OS11 already!!
It makes OSX look more like Windows 7. Need I say more.
I just made my own mockup, which is how I think it will (sort of) look like. Keep in mind that I'm terrible at this sort of work, and it's nothing complicated. The Finder icon is horrific - I know.

Your Menu bar reminds me of Mac OS 7
You're kind of right. I also suspect we might see a Dock more resembling that of Mac OS Tiger than the current one in Mavericks.
That which is old is new again.![]()
Hmm, I want a flat design, but looking at these mockups, OS X looks wrong. I don't know what it is, but OS X with a design like this no longer feels welcoming or user friendly. Maybe with the attention to detail and the real designers behind OS X, apple can pull it off.
Curious, what do you think of this:

Sorry, but this is the worst out of any concepts I have seen so far. Without depth or visual separation, any sort of multi-tasking or having more than one window open is going to be a nightmare.
Metro works because the lack of depth is made up for by strong visual separation and contrast.
The above looks like someone took the current OS X interface and put a black pro mist photography filter over it. It is still sharp, but everything just kind of blends together.
