Well, it's been OSX for about 13 years now. Why are they stuck on that version? I've NEVER heard of a single version with only point releases for 13 years. Do they ever plan to move forward? I assumed this was finally the year. I still doubt they would go 10.10...that's just dumb. In numerical terms 10.10 = 10.1
OS X is a brand name, just like Windows, or Chevrolet. It's not going away anytime soon. You want a headache? Try to figure the logic of making Windows 8 "8"

10.x.x is a versioning scheme, a name; not a decimal number. Is 10.9.2 meant to be manipulated mathematically? Then key it into your calculator, or format it as a number in a spreadsheet, and see if adding 0.0.1 to 10.9.4 gets you 10.9.5, 10.10.0, 11.1.0, or ERROR.
The thing is, 10.10.0 does't look at all odd to anyone familiar with the dot-decimal system used for IP addresses.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dot-decimal_notation. You can have any number from 0 to 255 between each dot, such as 172.16.254.1. And if you have 10 devices on your LAN? 172.16.254.10.
Software versions and IP addresses are treated as alphanumeric text strings, little different than the Dewey Decimal System, or "King Louis XIV." We may as well be debating whether Louis' forebears should have been renamed Louis 01, Louis 02, etc., to indicate there was more than 9 of them. But, of course, there is no zero in Roman numerals...
Maybe we can call it the Huey, Dewey, and Louis Decimal System?
