Absolute Vomit.

Might as well call it, OS X Metrosexual

A clean, professional, minimalist UI that doesn't distract is the hallmark of NeXTSTEP. This looks like someone robbed a Gap and made it merge with KMart.

Enough with this child theme.

Flat doesn't have to look childish. Windows/Views like this look like Tissue paper.

Make the entire UI form and function consistent. You've had 14 years to pull it off.

Oh god no. Enough with the the flat , non detailed look. We have retina, 4k, etc. This is the time to NOT have flat look and show as much detail as possible! Sheesh

Can we just stop with this whole mock-up thing being MR articles? Waste of electrons. :(

I love this design.

Looks like someone needs to look at the definition of opinions.

A flatter osx would be good but not stark. Also please limit translucency. Reminds me too much of windows.

Thank you

Hi everyone,

I'm glad and overwhelmed that my concept got shared by MacRumors. Thank you.

I've read all your comments so far and also all comments at the retweets on twitter and my twitter started to send messages almost every second, when this got posted. Didn't even think, that it would be.

As far as I can say, the opinions about it are quite different. I get lot's of positive feedback and also lots of negative feedback. I knew, that there are opinions against the flat look. I just didn't think of Windows. Maybe because of the translucent look of the windows? I was actually thinking of the iOS translucent effects. So I will probably rethink it. I also tried to implement and imagine some new features like: Reminders in Mail, Integrated End-2-End Encryption in Mail, iPhoto sync with iDevices etc.

Also the colors are mostly inspired by the Contacts & Notes app in Mavericks, so blame Apple for that ;) So the concept was just an idea, how the next OS X version might look like, if they go forward with that style and combine it in some parts with iOS 7, as they did before. It's interesting to see, how people think about it and I will create an update of the concept, in respect of all the feedbacks I get.

So thanks a lot for all the feedbacks and the following feedbacks, even the pretty bad ones, but critique is always good to get better.

Thank you.
Danny

Love the mockup of the Finder.

Hate the mockup of the Mail.app. That said, I can see Mail looking exactly like this.

Flat? The dock is still 3D!

Which I changed on my Mac and iPhone the instant Apple added it. I hate that 3D dock. How are the 2D icons on it not falling over? Where is it going? Gah.

I {like} it, thought that flat look would be rather dull but hey, looks great. However, there needs to be some colors on there so things can POP a bit…… a bit more character….. personality perhaps?? I doubt OS 10.10 would be out later this year, I do not see it happening, until next year….. perhaps late spring.

On a second look, it looks a bit Window…isn…… Outlook…..ish.

Well, it's been OSX for about 13 years now. Why are they stuck on that version? I've NEVER heard of a single version with only point releases for 13 years. Do they ever plan to move forward? I assumed this was finally the year. I still doubt they would go 10.10...that's just dumb. In numerical terms 10.10 = 10.1

OS X is a brand name, just like Windows, or Chevrolet. It's not going away anytime soon. You want a headache? Try to figure the logic of making Windows 8 "8" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Microsoft_Windows#Original_line)

10.x.x is a versioning scheme, a name; not a decimal number. Is 10.9.2 meant to be manipulated mathematically? Then key it into your calculator, or format it as a number in a spreadsheet, and see if adding 0.0.1 to 10.9.4 gets you 10.9.5, 10.10.0, 11.1.0, or ERROR.

The thing is, 10.10.0 does't look at all odd to anyone familiar with the dot-decimal system used for IP addresses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dot-decimal_notation. You can have any number from 0 to 255 between each dot, such as 172.16.254.1. And if you have 10 devices on your LAN? 172.16.254.10.

Software versions and IP addresses are treated as alphanumeric text strings, little different than the Dewey Decimal System, or "King Louis XIV." We may as well be debating whether Louis' forebears should have been renamed Louis 01, Louis 02, etc., to indicate there was more than 9 of them. But, of course, there is no zero in Roman numerals...

Maybe we can call it the Huey, Dewey, and Louis Decimal System?

You people seem to forget that Vista, and therefore 7, totally rips off OS X in the first place.

Because they made it look more modern and added transparency?

How does this:

Look anything like this:

To be honest though, it's a beautiful UI concept

Except Windows came with the idea first. Who's following who now, actually?

I really wish OS X still looked like that. I miss the metal look :(

I wish Windows still looked like Vista.

There's a really nice brushed metal theme on DeviantArt for Mountain Lion. The only issue I had with it is it caused a weird gradient in Safari, and I use that as my primary browser. If you're a chrome or firefox guy, give that a shot.

Apple wore it better.
