Well, it's been OSX for about 13 years now. Why are they stuck on that version? I've NEVER heard of a single version with only point releases for 13 years. Do they ever plan to move forward? I assumed this was finally the year. I still doubt they would go 10.10...that's just dumb. In numerical terms 10.10 = 10.1

Man...it is not a decimal number, it is a version number. You can do 10.10.10.10 if you wanted to. In this scenario 10.10 does NOT equate to 10.1

OSX is also a brand name at this point. Like Windows, which is currently on version "8". There is absolutely no reason to move to OSX11 or whatever it would be called because not only will the OS not be that different (UNIX was created more than 40 years ago), it would destroy a large amount of good will built up around the OSX name.

I wish they would stop messing with the interface. It works fine. Time for Apple to get their heads back under the hood and fix the engine. We need:

1) Legacy support so all older Macintosh applications that ran under previous versions of the Mac OS will run again. We have legacy data locked to old hardware because Apple broke compatibility. There is a tremendous amount of older software that has never been reworked for OSX, especially for small business and in the educational field. Just use wrappers.

2) Cross compatibility so DOS, Windows, CPM, etc can run on the Mac without the nonsense of BootCamp. Again, use wrappers.

3) iOS Apps to work on the Mac. It's absurd that they don't. Use wrappers if you gotta.

4) Stability.

5) Protection from nasties. (NSA, Terrorists, Viruses, Trojans, etc - use condoms)

6) Speed

7) Smaller footprint - hey, I can dream.

You're going to be sorely, sorely disappointed.

Apple will never do more legacy support. That was their whole point of moving forward.

No.

Why do people get so wrapped up in the look of software? The main criticisms of ios7 I have heard are about its looks. Now I hear "oh no don't make OS X flat it will look awful." Why? Should we have the same design forever?

Why not bring back the flat OS 7 design.

I really don't know why this 'flat' design appeals to anyone, but I guess some people must like it.

I wouldn't mind it if we had the option of changing it to our personal tastes, but it really reminds me of the look of early 90's software.

How can it be called 10.10???? 10.10 is the same number as 10.1!!!!

It has to be OS11 already!!

Version numbers do not follow the same rules as actual numbers. 10.10 is different from 10.1 and 10.100. The first number being major versions and the following ones being more minor updates.

I could live with that, absolutely. I'd probably go with different colours, drop the stupid translucence and I can't see Helvetica Neue as a system font any longer, but I'd be okay with this. I don't know where the flat design hate comes from lately, for me it could be even flatter. But then again, I do graphic design, and flat is everything in graphic design.

We shouldn't have the same design forever, but people have their likes and dislikes. Why shouldn't they be able to say what they like and dislike?

And usually a well designed interface is easier to use.

I don't particularly like the 'flat' designs and sometimes they make it harder to use a particular function.

Even Apple knows this. Some of the changes in 7.1 were to address some usability issues with the flat design.

It all feels like a step backward to me.

But that's just my 2 cents.

oh great

great, in some year's we'l be back to 16 colors 320x200 and they'll call it 'ultra-flat'.

I'm I the only one that liked all this skeumorphism and shadows etc. just because I had to use computers for almost 20 years until this became really possible?

Cross compatibility will never happen since that would require 100% re-write and API's from microsoft that are proprietary.

No, not at all. That is the whole point of wrappers. I code. I've been working in systems since the 1970's through now. This is not all that hard and the hardware has the power to handle it. Don't disparage what you don't understand.

16 colors! Why do you ever need more than black and white! :) :) :)

Aye, I was struck by the retro-look too. Almost expected MacPaint.

We shouldn't have the same design forever

Oh? If it works it should stick around for a lot longer than we're having designs stick around. A decade or few wouldn't be forever and would be fine. Apple's wasting time on design when they need to do real work.

I would suggest yourself and anyone else who thinks it should be OS11 should do a lot of research about OS X.

How many times does it need to be explained to people that they do not use the decimal system when numbering the OS.

Could possible understand it from those marked newbie but not from anyone else.

Around the time of 10.4 (Tiger). Steve Jobs gave an interview in which he said OSX would be around for 20 years or so. So there is at least another 4 years of OSX to go.
