Perhaps all of you who are having these major issues with 10.4.10 should let Apple know via their Feedback page. If people complain it might get fixed, otherwise how are they to know?

I secretly smile at those people who install updates without backing up their system first. I wonder why they don't clone their drive with something like Superduper so that they can revert if the update goes bad? Okay, maybe if you don't have any important data and don't mind installing applications, but sheesh, $28 for the software is worth it for piece of mind. If you don't back up and are the type who has to have the lastest updates, I have no sympathy if you wind up with an expensive paperweight, or lose a day having to reinstall everything.

I do update my system, I clone my boot drive every single day, using a scheduled backup with SuperDuper.

The backup is stuck on my USB hard drive, which I now cannot mount after updating to 10.4.10.

What do you suggest I do now, smartypants :p

The 10.4.9 update from Software Update hosed my iMac...even after repairing permissions several times. This time I downloaded the 10.4.10 combo update, forgot to repair permissions, and my iMac got hosed again - this time with a kernel panic just in the boot sequence after the Apple logo shows up.

I'm so glad I invested in that external backup drive. :)

So here I am posting from my newly-updated 10.4.10 iMac.

Safari instable after update

Safari became totally unstable after updating to 10.4.10 (Intel). I installed it together with the security update. It is not as bad as reported by artmonster:

Safari, Mail, Itunes, ichat, iweb, and more (but not all) apps WILL NOT open. they just bounce once in the dock, then nothing. I ran the Intel update.

Can anyone help?

However, it more or less crashes with every site I try to open.

Any one else affected? Any one with a workaround?

Thanks!

Jochen

Are you running Safari 3? If not, maybe try upgrading to it. If you are, maybe try uninstalling it and going back to Safari 2.

Yeah that happend to me (Ethernet + Router)

Restart the router - that solved my problem.
I ran into basically the same thing. I updated the Safari 3.0.2beta first, then the 10.4.10. All was fine. But after sleeping the machine over night, airport configurations were whack, showing no internet connection. I had to reconfigure and reenter the 128bit WEP Encryption Key before it came back. Still don't know why it went poof.

My wife's was on this morning with no hassles, but I haven't updated hers to 10.4.10 or to Safari 3.0.2beta 'til just now.

Has anyone else had problems with the Bluetooth icon randomly moving around / disappearing from the menu bar? It's been happening to me since ~10.4.6 and I keep on hoping it'll get fixed in an update.

Did not want to wade through all the posts....

So far no problems on my iMac G5 or my MacBook... count myself lucky that I have never had a problem in doing any update so far.

Some positives and negatives about Safari so far:

Positives:

- In the download manager you now can choose to remove a file that has been down loaded, nice touch....

- If you have a browser window open with multiple tabs and you try to close that window - a warning comes up like under Firefox, yet another nice touch

Negatives:

- Only one so far, and that is that even with a window open with tabs open - clicking on a link in the Mail app opens another window - boo on this at least for me.....

I was just about to update my parents mini G4 (I use their system as a guinea pig....shhhh ;)) and while Software Update was checking for updates, I went over to Gizmodo to see what's new and the first story was a warning about 10.4.10, so I canceled the update. Hopefully Apple will fix the problems soon, all of our computers are running 10.4.9 without any problems

You can fix that in the "General" tab in Safari's preferences. See the attached pic.

I'm getting crazy kernel panics with the update. Just about ruined my boot drive (unreparable with disk utility and diskwarrior).. luckily I had superduper'ed it, and just swapped drives.

Oh, wait- now this new boot drive has the same issues. 8 Kernel panics today (I have to get a video posted! Crap!)... Ef you 10.4.10. I miss my 10.4.9... Any easy way to revert?

I've had the same problem, but with the airport icon. It seems to be fixed this time.

Well I installed 10.4.10 and it went flawless until I went to use iChat to talk with my wife tonight. My USB webcam's microphone no longer works. The web cam still works as normal but it's integrated microphone is no longer recognized by the mac.

I'm having the same problem on my USB headset. It shows up in the Sound preferences, I can get output through the speakers, but the microphone is effectively dead.

Did you ever figure out what causes this?

MacMini RIP :(

Last night tried the update, it didn't start back up properly. After a few reboots, it managed to eventually login in. However the system was running very slow. It had a kernal process running at 100%. Still very sluggish.

After reading a few threads decided to reinstall from my 10.4.5 disks. Attempted update again (with only network, keyboard and monitor plugged in). Seems to be same again. OS X loading bar was solid blue and no movement.

Left the Mini to see if it needed time to reboot itself, that was 2 hours ago. Still no sign of life.

Oh well.

MacMini Intel 1.66 1gb was 10.4.9 then 10.4.5. Update seems to have failed on both.

I have to say .9 and .10 were the worst two minor releases ever. 10.4.9 killed both of my systems and I had to install the update from the command line on the install disc and 10.4.10 killed my microphone!

Any ideas how to fix this?

Same problem. I've submitted a bug report to Apple... I suggest you do the same: https://bugreport.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/RadarWeb.woa. My Problem ID is 5287979.
