I'm having the popping speakers and choppy sound issue on my PowerBook G4.

At first I thought it was the hard drive clicking.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!

that means were getting very close to leopard!!!!

bring it onnnnnn baby!

Even if 10.4.10 wasn't out, leopard would still be coming out in October.... Can't see what this does to the release of leopard...

Why on earth would you risk installing an update while you're on a trip?

Never underestimate the "big red [DONT PUSH ME] button" sickness. Its well documented.

Think i'll wait till the weekend, back up read the forums again and then have a beer or two......

...now wheres that big red.....

Won't turn on

Hi my friend installed the new update along with an update for iLife06 which she had just installed.

The laptop will now not turn on, it hangs at the grey apple screen with the turning grey wheel.

We tried a PMU reset as a previous posted said this fixed their problem, but no result so far. On our 5th restart.

Any suggestions?

Are applre responsible for fixing my laptop if their update broke it?

Longer than an hour? We left it for ages.

I have the tiger disks in the laptop now, how do I get it to run? I know there's a button I'm supposed to press when the laptop starts but can't remember which one.

c boots from the disk when held down from start up :)

An hour does seem long...

Did anyone not have problems updating to 10.4.10?

If I copy my Macintosh HD to my external HD (boot up from Tiger DVD, start Disk utility, click on my Macintosh HD, then "create image", read only, no compression and save it on the external HD), will it restore 10.4.9 when I transfer it back?

I've restored from those backups a few times after messing up my system but I thought, maybe the 10.4.10 update messes with other things that are not stored on the Macintosh HD volume. Firmare and EFI stuff for example. Anyone?

I think I'll skip that update until after my exams tho... too risky

happy 2 wait

Based upon the various issues so far being reported, I'm glad that I haven't updated yet. I'm a true Apple fan but have noticed that Apple's quality engineering process has suffered recently. I've learned after the last couple of updates to wait it out awhile and see what happens. The last update resulted in wifey losing her airport signal. Had to zap PRAM to fix that one. I do believe Apple will be updating (fixing bugs) on this one too but it will take a few days. I'm curious to see how other applications handle the new update. Has anyone had any problems with quicksilver (I really need that app) or photoshop? Is Ffox running ok or Shiira under 10.4.10? Just wandering ...

Anyone noticed that along with the 10.4.10 update we got a thesaurus in the dictionary? And that the AirPort Admin Utility has been updated and renamed the AirPort Utility?

I had this problem with an account once. I believe that emptying the cache files in /Library/Cache finally fixed this problem for me.

I am having the same problem, getting stuck in the console. I've tried everything mentioned on the apple support forums, but to no avail. Guess I'll have to give up and reinstall all the software tomorrow, I have a backup of my data but not of the whole computer, since I thought that with macs things were just supposed to work. . .

Ok, So having tried absolutely everything to get my laptop back and working, I'm now trying to boot from an external disk.

I've got a lacie hard drive, but when I go to disk utility it says that it can't install the OS on this disk (through disk utility on the broken PowerPC laptop). My other laptop is intel, and it says that I can't install the Tiger on my drive either (i'm assuming because it's powerpc files, not intel files).

Does anyone know what I have to do to prepare my disk for installation?

Cheers.

As someone who used the Dictionary.app countless times over the last year, I can assure you that a Thesaurus has been there, at least for a while.

Same, MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.10PPC.dmg sits on the desktop for the meantime, but I wont be running it. Not after hearing people speak of the crackles and pops. I listen to internet radio everyday. I don't think I could take listening to all those cracks and pops that so many seem to report.

Though, I never had Airport problems you describe when I installed 10.4.9, but that also came up with many people too!

Ugh.. I am getting seemingly random popping noises from my external 2.1 speakers; it started RIGHT AFTER rebooting when I updated to 10.4.10.. NOT very happy right now.

10.4.10 killed my MacBook

Since updating, my CD MacBook is now a brick. It gets to the blue screen where the login window should appear, and it just has the mouse cursor, then occasionally the animated circle of sticks.

What gives?

this SUCKS!!

onyx not work for anybody else i get "onyx requires Mac OSX version 10.4.x"
also the minimize to dock button(yellow) is acting up not letting me minimize or bring things back up, it kinda funny since it just stated acting up NOW all of a sudden:confused:

well, I don't get the crackling on my mbp but now I cannot see anything in itunes. All my stuff is still there because I can hit a playlist and it will play... but there are no tracklistings or anything. Its just blank.  I've restarted..and now am at a loss. Any ideas?! Or how do I go about switching down to 10.4.9??

I bet you have, or have had, UNO installed at one time? I had this same exact problem. I discovered that you can fix it by using "Restore" in the UNO app (Uninstall didn't do it, but restore did). After "restoring" you can re-apply and it should be fine, at least it was in my case.

Bugger. Uno keeps quitting and saying I have to install it on 10.4.4 or later and then quits. I cannot ever touch restore. Ugh I guess I'm screwed with itunes until uno updates.
