Ugh.. I am getting seemingly random popping noises from my external 2.1 speakers; it started RIGHT AFTER rebooting when I updated to 10.4.10.. NOT very happy right now.![]()
I secretly smile at those people who install updates without backing up their system first. I wonder why they don't clone their drive with something like Superduper so that they can revert if the update goes bad? Okay, maybe if you don't have any important data and don't mind installing applications, but sheesh, $28 for the software is worth it for piece of mind. If you don't back up and are the type who has to have the lastest updates, I have no sympathy if you wind up with an expensive paperweight, or lose a day having to reinstall everything.

ok great now i cant see my usb hard drive.
Not sure if anyone else has noted this in the thread, but 10.4.10 update also breaks Parallels USB device capabilities. Parallels says a fix should be coming out in a couple days.
Yes. Is there something wrong with it?Should my "Universal Access" icon look like this in System Preferences?

Sometimes a long time. It doesn't take more than maybe thirty minutes to isolate the bug and fix it. But first it has to get to the engineer who's gonna fix it. And that can take days or weeks. Then they make the fix and it gets put in a queue and becomes part of the next update. This isn't web software - it has to be distributed. That can take a long time and it always takes a lot of work. See now why Google are doing things the way they do?What does it take to put out an update where you don't have to EJECT thumb drives before removing them, without an error popping up telling that you removed it improperly??
I can confirm this. I'm running version 2.5 (build 3212). What version are you running? 2.5 or 3.0?
Sadly many of Apple's recent updates have wrecked systems, and MS updates for XP have done the same. While this should not happen, it is a fact of life today that updates can and do break systems, sometimes so badly that they won't even boot. Yes, I have SuperDuper! and use it every time before an update. And also be sure to unplug all external devices except keyboard, mouse, and display before doing an update. If you are trusting Apple ( or any company for that matter) and the update process to be perfect then your trust is in the wrong place; people and things are not perfect and never will be.Yeah, how dare we expect an offical Apple update NOT to break our systems?
Seriously man, stick the condescending attitude where the sun don't shine. An update from Apple shouldn't bork your system, and if it does it's Apple's fault not the users.
I'm sure many users here would have a word or two to say about MS if a Vista update borked systems/ produced audio issues. Yet if an Apple update causes problems it's somehow the users fault? Yeah, right.
If Apples update wrecks systems then the software is crappy and bug-ridden. If the software is bug-ridden then it shouldn't be put out the door. Users left with "paperweights" certainly have my sympathy. I don't worship Apple to the point of blaming consumers for Apple's mistakes unlike you. I find your post vaguely repulsive. What kind of person gets enjoyment at someone else's misfortune and blames it on them when it's Apple's fault?

Same build as you (2.5, build 3212). Parallels is working on it. They have a thread about it: http://forum.parallels.com/thread13482.html
I installed the combo update on my core duo macbook and now airport doesn't work right. In the Network Preferences panel next to AirPort
"AirPort is connected to the network ***. AirPort has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet."
It works fine with ethernet.
And we can't blame it on the router because my core duo iMac is working fine on the same network after the update. However, on the iMac it wasn't the combo update.
I just checked for updates (via Help menu) and build 3214 is available. I've tried it and it fixes my USB problems connecting devices to Parallels.![]()
