Also breaks Parallels USB...

Not sure if anyone else has noted this in the thread, but 10.4.10 update also breaks Parallels USB device capabilities. Parallels says a fix should be coming out in a couple days.

and internet conection problems...

after upgrading to 10.4.10 my internet connection is messed up, airport says I'm connected with the max strength but safari, transmision and messenger are not working  , they launch but safari won't load pages, messenger tells me I have no internet connection and transmision won't download stuff..

Should my "Universal Access" icon look like this in System Preferences?

Toadstool_42

close system preferences and delete these 2 files in in User/library/caches then open system preferences:

1. com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
2. com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindexcache

Ugh.. I am getting seemingly random popping noises from my external 2.1 speakers; it started RIGHT AFTER rebooting when I updated to 10.4.10.. NOT very happy right now.

Me too it's really annoying. Any chance this will be fixed or am I stuck with popping speakers for the rest of this computer's life?

I secretly smile at those people who install updates without backing up their system first. I wonder why they don't clone their drive with something like Superduper so that they can revert if the update goes bad? Okay, maybe if you don't have any important data and don't mind installing applications, but sheesh, $28 for the software is worth it for piece of mind. If you don't back up and are the type who has to have the lastest updates, I have no sympathy if you wind up with an expensive paperweight, or lose a day having to reinstall everything.

Yeah, how dare we expect an offical Apple update NOT to break our systems?

Seriously man, stick the condescending attitude where the sun don't shine. An update from Apple shouldn't bork your system, and if it does it's Apple's fault not the users.

I'm sure many users here would have a word or two to say about MS if a Vista update borked systems/ produced audio issues. Yet if an Apple update causes problems it's somehow the users fault? Yeah, right.

If Apples update wrecks systems then the software is crappy and bug-ridden. If the software is bug-ridden then it shouldn't be put out the door. Users left with "paperweights" certainly have my sympathy. I don't worship Apple to the point of blaming consumers for Apple's mistakes unlike you. I find your post vaguely repulsive. What kind of person gets enjoyment at someone else's misfortune and blames it on them when it's Apple's fault?

Uhh...... Yeah. People are really gonna think about doing that to their Macs who's marketing line is "it just works". Pahleeze........

I can confirm this. I'm running version 2.5 (build 3212). What version are you running? 2.5 or 3.0?

Well I installed 10.4.10 and it went flawless until I went to use iChat to talk with my wife tonight. My USB webcam's microphone no longer works. The web cam still works as normal but it's integrated microphone is no longer recognized by the mac. I have to say .9 and .10 were the worst two minor releases ever. 10.4.9 killed both of my systems and I had to install the update from the command line on the install disc and 10.4.10 killed my microphone!

Any ideas how to fix this?

What does it take to put out an update where you don't have to EJECT thumb drives before removing them, without an error popping up telling that you removed it improperly??
Sometimes a long time. It doesn't take more than maybe thirty minutes to isolate the bug and fix it. But first it has to get to the engineer who's gonna fix it. And that can take days or weeks. Then they make the fix and it gets put in a queue and becomes part of the next update. This isn't web software - it has to be distributed. That can take a long time and it always takes a lot of work. See now why Google are doing things the way they do?

Sadly many of Apple's recent updates have wrecked systems, and MS updates for XP have done the same. While this should not happen, it is a fact of life today that updates can and do break systems, sometimes so badly that they won't even boot. Yes, I have SuperDuper! and use it every time before an update. And also be sure to unplug all external devices except keyboard, mouse, and display before doing an update. If you are trusting Apple ( or any company for that matter) and the update process to be perfect then your trust is in the wrong place; people and things are not perfect and never will be.

I'd have to agree, but its more of a research thing on finding out what problems lie within before diving in and from what other users report. I've been there with windows on that part many times. Theres nothing worse spending a day putting the OS back to how you liked it. It isn't rosy on either camp.

It's still the users problem to rectify it. Whether it be wait or reinstall and go back to the previous update. Either way they still suffer.

Airport Problems after the update.

I installed the combo update on my core duo macbook and now airport doesn't work right. In the Network Preferences panel next to AirPort

"AirPort is connected to the network ***. AirPort has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet."

It works fine with ethernet.

And we can't blame it on the router because my core duo iMac is working fine on the same network after the update. However, on the iMac it wasn't the combo update.

I did a clean install from the DVD to 10.4.6. Airport worked fine. Installed the 10.4.9 combo update and had the same problem (airport would connect but had a self assigned IP so didn't really work).

I guess I'll reinstall 10.4.6 from disk and maybe go 10.4.7 to 10.4.8.

Any suggestions?

I'm not going to chance it, what with the way the iTunes update royally screwed my library/iPod up with 7.2.;)

Ok this update was fine till a moment ago...that crackling an popping sound coming out of my speaker is really irritating..eh will apple relase a fix for this?!

Yeah that happend to me (Ethernet + Router)

Restart the router - that solved my problem.
