Does Safari 5.1.1 fix the bug where a PDF inside an <iframe> is downlaoded instead of displayed? Test Here: http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/html/iframe-pdf.html

Currently on 5.1 on Snow Leopard that page just downloads 2 PDFs and shows none.

There's another issue with session date not being passed to the source of a <video> element. If anyone has any details on that I would appreciate it.

I hope 10.7.2 fixes all of the problems i have been having.

safari sucks, mail sucks, ical sucks. pretty much anything i do because of installing lion has sucked. everything stalls or freezes!
Zero problems with Lion here. It might be related to the fact I've started using Mac OS X since 10.6.5 or so.

I just want to have a reliable connect to my mac.

what kind of new computer in 2011 can't even hold a damn internet connection.

You see, Apple does not even use their own soft- and hardware in their data centers. You won't find Xserves there and you won't find OS X on the servers. Think about that for a minute and then tell me if you like the inevitable conclusion.

Is that true? Wow I'm actually shocked....anyone confirm this?[/QUOTE]

Of course. Apple no longer makes XServes. There's nothing to think about. Apple is not a high capacity server vendor. It shouldn't matter what brand they use.

Very few problems here. Running 10.7.1. My biggest beef is some changes Mail behaviours. No crashing though. Anyone who is having crashes, do yourself a service and inspect your crash logs and kernel panics. See what's actually causing the problem - it's a lot better than complaining about it.

The PDF files still download in Safari 5.1.1

You could see the entirety of every window, so the fact that the order was not predictable didn't matter so much. That aspect has been removed in MC. All they need to do is make it so that scrolling fully expands the window bunches. That would be the best of both worlds, IMO.

I guess in my mind it just makes more sense to look for a recognizable app icon rather than squinting into a window that looks pretty much the same. Chances are they will make it so that you can move straight from mission control to App expose. That's what I would do if I were Apple, not bring back the total expose view, an unorganized grid of windows isn't really Apple-esque when you think about it.

Unfortunately the update does not to mention Versions / autosave - or automangle when applied to SD cards, USB sticks, network drives.

We've banned Lion from the workplace due to this (the work-around is: don't use Versions-compatible apps) :-s New macs are ordered with Snow Leopard - unfortunately not possible on the MBA.

Ive had most of the issues that are listed in 10.7.2: iCal, Mail (unstable), Wifi - and that's on a 2011 MBA - not some SL upgrade.

Actually I migrated settings from SL initially - bad idea. Lots of intermittent problems. Ended up doing a clean install through the net - took a while and needed a whole day to set up my new machine to be similar to my old one, but it worked significantly better, with the caveats mentioned above.

It sounds like the people at work need to do a little understanding of the way that versions work. I hope it's not too rash to assume that your flashdrives, SD cards and the like that you're trying to use are not formated as Mac OS X Journaled. This is the filesystem that works with versions, not FAT32 or NFTS or anything else.

Control of files and versions...

I am afraid I'll have to wait for 10.8 and whatsoever cat...

If you would have searched for "go back to snow" in Google some months ago, all results would have been related to ski holidays or similar subjects. Today, it's all about going back to Snow Leopard...

Why did thousands (millions?) of users decided to downgrade their system and started to hope for a better Lion? And why did I spend an entire weekend to go back?

The main reason that you can find in hundreds of reviews and comments is having lost control of your own files and their versions: automatic saving while the user is editing his data and the loss of a key function like "Save as..." have created profound and partly weird, sometimes almost "religious" discussions within the community of Apple users. Let me try to summarize the main arguments that I found and that might convince Apple to reconsider the actual approach:

1. Missing "Save as...":

Many companies I have worked with have standard workflows in place, where "Save as..." is required. Sometimes these companies might be able to start working with templates, but I have seen and I have been in many situations where it was simply better to open an existing file, make some change and save it under a slightly different name and potentially in a different location. Some defenders of Lion's approach to file handling claim that the new function "Duplicate" would offer the same option, but if you try to do the same with "Duplicate" you'll see that you have to deal with additional steps and that the entire process is less intuitive.

2. Version Control:

While you are editing your files Lion is creating new versions all the time and you'll be able to go back to an earlier version at any time. Well... if you can find it.

Lion's understanding and handling of our file's versions is insufficient. We used "Save as..." to consciously create specific versions and save them under self explanatory file names in the directory we wanted.

Automatic saving could be a great new feature, but users should be able to choose if and how to use it.

3. Security and Confidentiality:

With Auto-Save OS X Lion saves only the information that has changed since the last version, making efficient use of space on your hard drive. But where?

Doctors, lawyers, politicians and many other users save their confidential files and documents within encrypted discs or containers. With Lion these users can continue to do so, but when they mount their encrypted folders and edit their confidential data, bits and pieces of the updates end up in a database which isn't encrypted. People who know about this won't feel too comfortable with this security leak.

Summary: I think Apple tried to fix something that wasn't broken and I desperately hope that a future version of OS X will put the control of our files back into our hands and bring usability back to the level we all know from Steve's products.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; es-es) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

Please, I'm curious about changes made to graphics drivers in this update. Does anyone using a 2010 MBP (nvidia 330m card) have noticed improvements after installation?

@janmarks: An excellent analysis of the evil triumvirate of Lion. More high level than I usually argue, but agreed on all counts including pretty much set on waiting to see what comes in 10.8, and also for my part, comparing that to what comes in Windows 8, which I fear may include similar trends towards the machine being in control.

I have only had one issue with Lion, although quite an annoying one. When I was still running SL, the automatic keyboard backlighting worked perfectly. The F-keys were blocked, like they should be.

Now in my version of Lion it doesn't work. The backlighting is always on unless I choose to have them go out after x seconds. I have to adjust them manually every time. Even with the box checked, the F-keys still work. That function was one of my favorites in SL, I hate having to adjust it manually, especially when running on the battery.

Any hopes of having this fixed?

No, the fault is purely Apple's - they implemented autosave blindly and then didn't implement it to support non HFS+. That's fine, except you can't turn off versions / autosave.

I know that NFS/SMB/FAT32 don't support this, but I cannot turn off autosave.
