I'm really not even looking forward to this at all. OSX announcements used to be exciting, but newer features like Launchpad and Mission Control do not add anything to my experience whatsoever. Even the under the hood improvements rarely seem particularly interesting anymore. I still get every new version, but that's mostly because I feel forced to for compatibility reasons.

Honestly, without a fundamental change to the way the computer works (something one might expect in an OSXI, not an 10.9), I don't even know what features I would like them to add anymore.
That's what you get with yearly releases of an OS that's very mature already. Lion however had a lot more to offer than just Launchpad (useless) and Mission Control (which I find very useful). Discless installation, Recovery mode, merged Software Update, Auto Save, Finder refinements, Safari 6... And Mountain Lion did add a few nice functions, though, I agree, nothing spectacular; but we didn't pay a lot for it anyway and a lot less than we used to. So why complain? I'm sure that going from 10.7 to 10.9 will be a lot more revolutionary than going from Leopard to Snow Leopard, which added almost nothing!

But will it blend?

No it won't blend.. but it will have Kick Ass Features.

Maybe this is the result of doubling down on secrecy. I still wonder if some of the tech journalists like Gruber, etc. that had private demos of Mountain Lion have seen 10.9 already but this year have been told by Apple to keep quiet until Monday.

I've heard that the third digit is the number of days it has been in development. So 451 days before the webkit record is February of last year, or around when they announced ML and released the first developer beta.

That's a long time, although as someone else pointed out, a long development time doesn't necessarily mean anything since some of that time may be light development with a smaller team. Still, it's interesting to see a number that high, hopefully it's a good sign.

Lucid Lynx was a code name of ubuntu 10.04 so I do not think it would be OSX Lynx. I could be wrong I am wrong a lot.

What about Sabertooth? Because it is extinct and if Apple does not blow everyone out of the water many people will panic and put Apple on the near to extinction list.

This is good news as much as I've been looking forward to iOS 7, I'm looking forward to 10.9 even more. It's also good to know that Apple may have a mature version out of the gate this time around. I can't wait!

I hope it's more like Snow Leopard..

Does anyone have any idea what it will be named?

Snow Mountain Lion

In all seriousness, I can think of a few features that would be great:
- Undo Mission Control and Launchpad. Honestly, that was the biggest heap of crap ever. They took all the awesome features of Snow Leopard, then scrambled them little enough that you could still see the resemblance, but they weren't actually useful anymore.
- Resolution Independence.
- A decent file sharing system, modeled after Dropbox.
- Making Notes less like the iOS version and more like Stickies (which I still use because Notes is too bulky.) And why is Reminders a seperate app?

Revolutionary new stuff? Save it for OS 11... I'd like to see something stable, useful, and not bloated for OS X 10.9...

Although I actually have some great ideas for starting from scratch on mail and Safari and a few other apps for OS X and iOS... Some of them I might just go ahead and develop/sell on my own rather than annually hope for Apple to do on their own...

Not to mention it seems with every new version of OSX gets buggier then the previous lately.

I have never liked Mountain Lion enough to upgrade from Snow Leopard on my main machine. Hopefully, Apple will give us a new feature to completely turn off Notification Center.

yeah, I kinda feel like that's how tech is now.
if we think about it, most of our past excitement for tech has been about making it less sluggish and crappy. aaaaaaand lots of those kinks have been worked out already.

What's New in OS X 10.9?

I want to see improved networking support, with WebDAV included in base operating system so that every day users can share files/directories over WebDAV. I also want to see Open Directory deprecated and replaced with a very powerful mobile device management implementation!
