[...]I'm sure that going from 10.7 to 10.9 will be a lot more revolutionary than going from Leopard to Snow Leopard, which added almost nothing!

Snow Leopard was fully 64-bit and was really optimized. If the next version of OS X is just an update for optimization (and fixing the *@%! fullscreen system), I would be happy. I don't need much of the new features. I still prefer Snow Leopard over all OS X versions I have used.

I'm really not even looking forward to this at all. OSX announcements used to be exciting, but newer features like Launchpad and Mission Control do not add anything to my experience whatsoever. Even the under the hood improvements rarely seem particularly interesting anymore. I still get every new version, but that's mostly because I feel forced to for compatibility reasons.

Honestly, without a fundamental change to the way the computer works (something one might expect in an OSXI, not an 10.9), I don't even know what features I would like them to add anymore.

Why not see 10.9 similar as you would see 10.8.5? Yes, a few things will change but like changes in a cashpoint UI, you'll adapt quickly to it.

Eleven

I'm more interested in OS XI.
When will it come out?
Will it have animal names?
What sort of big changes might we see?
Just have to wait,though.

I'm going with tacocat because tacocat spelled backwards is tacocat.

I wonder if there will be a OS X (10.10) or just OS XI (11.0)

And will it be dogs instead of cats this time?

I don't know, "10.9 Cougar" seems logical ;) ....

and since cougars are older females, it makes sense that an older version of an operating system would be called it. ;)

Why do people have such a problem with Mission Control? Launchpad I can understand, it doesn't make navigating apps any easier. Especially since you can't remove them without 3rd party programs. But Mission Control is awesome. I love being able to 4-finger swipe between full screen apps. It makes my multitasking so much easier.

One thing I hope they fix in this next one though is when I 2-finger swipe in safari to go back it shouldn't have to reload the whole page every time.

I want them to get rid of the whole duplicate and save mess. Save and Save as wasn't broken and so didn't need to be fixed.

Personally, I consider full-screen apps and Mission Control to be a huge difference in the way my computer works. Just because you don't use these features doesn't mean lots of others don't. For me, it's completely changed the way I use OS X.

How is Mission Control much different than Exposé and Spaces accessed via a common screen?

In other words, is Expose and Spaces what you like about Mission Control and you just call it Mission Control for brevity? But then Expose and Spaces aren't really new.

Yes, I know there are differences in how the Expose part is handled in Mission Control but it's still Expose, just a modified one, ditto for Spaces.

multiple monitors plz

Still dont understand why they haven't figured out a way to use multiple monitors yet?

The whole full screen app debacle aside, you still have the problem with launchpad, mission control the dock, the status bar AND opening and closing apps constantly dragging you back and forth between monitors in a far from intuitive manner.

fix this and ill be happy

My question is where to next?

With 10.9 will Apple call the next one 10.10 or 11.0?

I just hope next week we get some details and the cat name so I can find a good wall paper :)

I hope it's more like Snow Leopard..

Does anyone have any idea what it will be named?

I could not agree with you more. If they do that and add back some power user features (and I can only dream of them bringing back the save as function on their native apps ) I would be so happy.

I finally started hooking up my mac to my tv and can't wait for better dual monitor modes amongst anything else they have in store for us :)

What do you mean with that one cannot remove Launchpad? That you cannot delete the 1.4 MB package from your Applications folder? I don't think I'd worry much of a 1.4 MB file. And I have seen anything of Launchpad even once in the last 12 months so, effectively, I have removed it (from my sight).

And I'd call the swiping between fullscreen apps part of the implementation of fullscreen apps. One might call the integration of Spaces with fullscreen apps Mission Control but if one only uses one of the two, Mission Control is nothing but an empty shell name.

I've heard that the third digit is the number of days it has been in development. So 451 days before the webkit record is February of last year, or around when they announced ML and released the first developer beta.

That's a long time, although as someone else pointed out, a long development time doesn't necessarily mean anything since some of that time may be light development with a smaller team. Still, it's interesting to see a number that high, hopefully it's a good sign.

That seems plausible if they are doing nightly builds. What about weekend days? Holidays? It just doesn't add up.

"safari is snappier" has been banned by the management of MacRumors for being annoy and repetitive. Fair enough.

But these "OS X lolcat" "OS X liger" "OS X garfield" jokes have been going on for over a decade.

Can you ban these also, mods?

Great idea, suggest it here.

It's possible that it's work days as opposed to calendar days (which would make it an even longer period of time), I don't know the details.
