where else can you find OS developer that make machines perform faster and smoother on existing hardwares?

or the rest of them mainly creates new OS versions that drives up the minimum requirements and tax the existing hardwares harder?

Which one does Microsoft falls under?

I loaded Chrome to watch netflix and LOL. It's bad. Really bad. It feels like I'm on a 1995 x286 PC.

Microsoft in recent years had made tremendous advancements, Windows is way ahead of OS X in running smoothly on low level hardware, likely we can thank the upcoming W10 for Apple finally waking up...

Yeah. Thanks to windows. Years ago, was saying "World windowsless could be better" , not anymore. I still prefer Apple but W is doing a great job and the competition is a good thing.

True, Apple has got fat & lazy on IOS devices, and OS X has become bloated, unfinished and lack`s optimisation for Apple`s own hardware. Thankfully Microsoft have woke up and are doing something very good with Windows 10. So now Apple must respond with significant improvements to OS X`s performance, lest they risk a reduction in the recent surge of Mac sales.

Let`s be straight, many switched to OS X not for a love of Apple, more for a deep dislike of Windows 8, with no other place to go. All this is good for us and I am sure we will see a lot of improvement in 10.11 and Apple will get on it`s game with the Mac hardware; Retina MackBook being just the start...

I don't have a problem with Windows, equally I don't want to deal with it too much, nor a space I want to inhabit professionally or privately, equally Windows 8.1 technically is a very impressive OS, Windows 10 will correct much of the issue with the UI & UX, and bring more to the table, and Apple will be compelled to respond :)

I'm with ya with most your points. I don't get it why Apple is sitting so stagnant with iOS and OS X... I get it touch screen isn't the direction Apple is going with laptops, at least not now, but common, liven up the OS. We're stuck in 2005, and Windows is cruising by with a cool, and usable look to the OS.

This is going to be good news for everyone, as El Captain will have built in TRIM support for aftermarket SSDs. This is huge for older models that can run the OS.

That is wrong. El capitan does not have build in 3rd party trim support.

At least not by default.

Thank you for doing this Alex! Question, have you run 1400 X 900 yet or were you running default 1280 X 800 in those animation tests? I can't wait for El Capitan to come out!
Sorry for the late response! This was running at 1440x900.

I still can't get over how bad the name is.

I can look past it with the performance and smoothness bumps, but yikes!

I have no issues with Netflix on a 1.2 model.

I'm running a 1.1 rMB. It's my only Mac right now. Is there much of a risk running a beta OS? Can anyone tell me?

I really just wanna know if battery performance is improved or changed in any way. Yes, everyone says the performance is increased and lag decreased, but no one seems to provide worthwhile information on actual battery life. Please?

With DP1 I get about the same battery life as with Yosemite (with same workload): about 7/7,5 hours. I really see difference in smoothness and animations. For a DP1 I am really really impressed what this DP1 gives to my 12inch MacBook.
Okay, not all the apps are working yet, but that will be just a matter of time.

Using 10.11 as main OS, not seperate partition, no regrets at all.

Really looking forward for the upcoming new DP's!

Agree with what you have said - the performance of the UI elements is sublime.

Unfortunately my battery is draining much faster than Yosemite - perhaps due to rogue apps that aren't working 100% yet - although activity monitor doesn't show anything obvious.

Looking forward to how El Capitan progresses.

I've set El Cap up in a 2nd partition and basically mirrored the setup of Yosemite. Best of both worlds.

Try switching User Agent in Safari to Google Chrome (Safari-Preferences-Advanced-Show Developer Menu) and switch from the menu bar. Been having issues with Netflix and safari with a multi monitor setup since 10.10 and now even on a single monitor with 10.11. Switching forces safari to use the silverlight plug-in and ditches the broken html5 mode.

Lol. How is Apple stuck in 2005?

Netflix had a hack to try and detect AirPlay and stop. The new AirPlay from safari feature may be tripping its detection crap

2005? Hardly. You have to look at the different mindsets between Apple and Microsoft. Microsoft pushes new ideas to gain the upper hand, to look important (much like Samsung), whether it be through an overzealous adoption of a certain design trend to touch compatibility to merge the once distinct markets of tablets and laptops.

Apple, on the other hand, seeks new ideas for the sake of refinement, individuality, and pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable, just as it always has. I'd say Metal, Swift, Continuity, AirPlay/Print/Drop, and Handoff are pretty good indicators that OS X is definitely not stagnant, but is improving itself for the future.

What has Windows brought to the table recently? The reintroduction of the Start menu?

Also, colorfulness does not automatically denote liveliness. OS X is definitely more fun than Windows 8 or 10. (Statistics also show that OS X is perceived to be cooler than Windows, so....just saying') ;D

Just out of curiosity, what would you like to see implemented in iOS or OS X that hasn't been yet? I think you're right to some level, but Android is plateauing too. I think we're at a point with these operating systems that you're really not going to see any more huge innovation anymore. Android M implements some elements that iOS has been doing for years and iOS9 takes some from Android.
