wwdc banner interpretations?

Ok.. so the hype is building, and WWDC is less than 4 days away. We all know that the 3G iPhone is being introduced... duh. I'm not here to debate what features, form factors, and functions it will have.. etc.
However, I do want to hear your interpretation of this years slogan: "A landmark event.. in more ways than one." As you know, apple usually hides bits of information in these banners, e.g. : "There's something in the air.." , macbook air.

What do you think this year's banner means?

Though it is far fetched, and WWDC is obviously a developer conference, I think it might signal the introduction of 2 new devices this monday. 1. The 3G iPhone of course, and 2. a MacTablet.. maybe.

Maybe it means:

1. just the Mac OSX Developer Track and the iPhone Developer track

or

2. the 3G iPhone and iPhone Nano. (much less likely IMO), I don't see the success of a full product line of iPods transferring to the iPhone. The amount of features that would need be sacrificed to reasonably spawn an "iPhone Nano" would inherently take away it's lure of being a "convergance device.")
just my opinion..

Thoughts? Criticisms? Interpretations of your own?

I think you're on target with this one. The WWDC website has the program clearly defined into 1) Mac OS X development, 2) iPhone apps development, 3) IT for Mac development.

It probably just eludes to the fact that there is now a mobile platform as well as a traditional computer platform. To boil it down to the basics (obviously you could argue that iPhone is in itself a mini-computer blah blah blah).

I means they are based on the same core sw

Thus, developers can develop application that can be leveraged across the platforms. This is a developer conference.

The fact that iphone uses a version of OS X is not new, this was announced with original iphone. This is just a basic developer message that OS X is easy and scalable.

Leopard as a product name will be around for as long as apple cares to name new releases as part of leopard. It does not indicate that they will not change features. Leopard has a lot of brand value now that apple spent some much money advertising it.

:apple:

Perhaps the dropping the 'Mac' from Mac OS X signals a shift of OS X to other platforms, such MS. That's probably just wishful thinking though. But I would love to try Mac OS X without having to buy a Mac.

I can tell you exactly what it means.

A landmark event.

GPS in the new iPhone 3G

People navigate by landmarks.

In more ways than one..

Leopard is going pure Cocoa. Introducing multi-touch to the Mac.

Simple.;)

According to Wikipedia, landmark can mean:

"Landmarks in the British English sense are often used for casual navigation, such as giving directions. This is done in American English as well."

This could possible mean GPS. A landmark literally meant a geographic feature used by explorers and others to find their way back or through an area.

omg my co-worker said that he went to an apple store today and saw a new iphone, he said that gui was newer
can that be the os x?

Thanks for doing that! I wonder if its true! I doubt it, but maybe! I suppose we'll see our powerbook G6's as well! Seeing as we have now skipped G5:D hehe

:apple: will make Mac OS X and OS X iPhone run on .mac similar to google desktop. This way regardless of the platform mobile or desktop or even the architecture PPC or x86 it will run on almost any internet connected related device.

This way you buy the OS and pay a subscription for the applications (consumer apps only). This would cut cost and also show a greener :apple: to the environmentalist.

Hence, the Blue (Leopard Server wallpaper), the Purple (Leopard wallpaper) and .mac (blue splash). Integration, availability and flexibility. :D

Iphone 3g

I just sold my iphone on ebay so i could buy the new 3g phone. If you pay full price for the 3g phone do you have to extend your contract?
