Great,I can install windows 8.1 on a old computer from 2005 but Mavericks on my 2008 black macbook is no go...thanks apple! errrrrrrr

My first attempt ended with Mav saying that the install couldnt be verified. This is on a Mid 2012 Mac Air so I am not sure what the issue is. Anyone else?

Download complete, installing, suckers! See you on the other side. BTW, it does leave the installer app, but I was unable to copy it to an 8 GB USB flash drive because it said the format (I assume DOS FAT32) doesn't support the file size.

Format your flash drive in disk utility to HFS + Journaled with/ GUID Partition Table and you will be able to. You are correct. FAT 32 does not support files over 4GB.. I think...

I'm confused between what is stated in this article and what was said in the keynote. Does the upgrade work from Snow Leopard? My grandpa has a 15" Early 2008 Macbook Pro with 2.4Ghz C2D, 6GB of ram, and I think either 256MB or 512MB Nvidia video card running Snow Leopard. It used to be my computer a few years ago. Will Mavericks run ok on this system? Is it possible the new system-level improvements could actually help speed it up some or is that wishful thinking? I'm thinking about getting him an SSD for Christmas and doing a fresh install of Mavericks on that to bring it some new life. He mainly edits old VHS SD videos that he imports with a capture card into iMovie, as well as cleans up old photos and slides that he scans and makes DVDs for the family. So I don't want this update to bog down his workflow. Thanks for the help!

Thats planned obsolescence for you. Everyone who buys into a controlled ecosystem such as Apples should really expect these things to happen. A MB from 2008 is not old by any means, but unfortunately Apple wants you to keep buying new devices.

Sticking with Lion

Meh even though its free. I am going to stick with Lion on my baby. Got the new safari update, so thats running faster and everything else on my Lion is going good as always. So sticking to Lion for now.

I wasn't going to bother with this upgrade since I didn't see anything my iMac would benefit from or I would find useful. But I'm not going to argue with free. I'll download once you guys chill out on the servers.

:)Anyone else notice the 'Date Modified' for ox x mavericks in the applications folder?

Found this guide for MT Lion, did the same things.
Making the drive atm, seams to work

So you are saying that you did the same process that is used for creating a 10.8 bootable install disk with 10.9? Interested to know if the image actually boots and runs after you create it.

WOW, long installation

I just finished the install and got back a lot of free space! Started with 15 GB available on my MacBook Air SSD, before downloading the installer. After installing Mavericks, I now have 36 GB of free space, wow! Maybe Mavericks is really efficient space-wise or maybe as part of the process it cleaned out some old cruft (like install packages). But this is great, already breathing new life into my 2011 Air.

 I thought I was the only one still running Lion (10.7). I mean I have Mountain Lion on my work laptop. But never upgraded my home computer. It ran just fine with Lion. Well everything but my NAS :(

Being free I may give Mavericks a shot. I'm edgy though after iOS 7 plagued me. Hopefully today's fix resolves that.
