just downloaded and followed instructions installing mavericks on new macbook air 13 and 2009 imac 27 - same result: installation fails, failing to reboot with following message: your computer resstarted because of a problem... followed by screen with following message - "panic (cpu 1 caller - and later Mac OS version: not yet set..." does someone have a similar problem? What to do? Both updates from Mountain Lion..

Thanks

ah man.........I fear this might happen......my 15" rMBP can't even handle the latest 10.8.5 Supplemental update without nearly bricking. I might just finish the DL wait and see.

Noticed it too on 2011 i7 MacBook pro. Did upgrade vice fresh. Going to try fresh install.
I installed over the old OS. However, I did a fresh install of ML about 2 mos ago after my MBP had a random falling asleep problem. Maybe I'll do a fresh install after the fall college semester is over and I have more time.

Wow! Just installed Mavericks on my rMBP and I've gained ~15GB of disk space

Before Finder reported ~191GB free (before I d/l Mav) and now it reports 206GB free. :D

Normally would expect less disk space after a major OS u/g

Does anyone know how to see how long it will take to download once i start it? I just have a progress bar but that's it.

go into "launchpad"

Can someone look and see what the build number is (for the version released today) not the GM ?

Thanks

Is anyone else experiencing a longer than normal Shutdown and/or Stat-up/Restart times for their Macs since upgrading to Mavericks? I am also noticing a longer than normal lag with opening applications. I am running Mavericks on a 2012 Mac Mini w/ 16 GB RAM and 2.6 GHz i7 Quad Core. I have to say that the Start-up and Shutdown times while using Mountain Lion were a lot faster.

Anyone updating their Early 2011 2GHZ I7 MBP? can you let this forum know if you notice any decrease in performance?

YES !!!. It's slower booting, shutting down. I notice a slight lag with quickview on larger jpegs also. I have a Late 2011 MBP 2.4ghz core i7, 16gb ram. 7200rpm hd.

Painfully slow download. I'm pretty sure it's been stuck at "3 hours remaining" for the last 2 hours. I mean, it's downloading, but the time remaining hasn't really changed.

It's not Mavericks man it's your hard drive, upgrade to a 512gb SSD.

Tax reason = FREE

They are doing free, prolly, because this is a business move since they got a slap on the wrist with off shore tax havens? Good for tax purposes for a business to give free stuff. Anyone jump in on this one who can be more technical with terms / experience? Thanks.

You can, but at 5.3 GB each download, that can add up and potentially bust your monthly data cap (if you are a sucker like me in the US at the mercy of douchebag cablecos). My cap is 200 GB per month, but I know some are even lower. So if I upgraded 4 machines separately, that would eat up 10% of my monthly cap. And anyone who watches a lot of Netflix is probably already using a lot of data.

I could see that if you have a monthly cap/limit. With all the devices that use the web in my house, a cap is not an option. So will just update the other macs.
