How much of my current software will break, if I upgrade? Parallels? VMWare? Blender? etc?

VMWare Fusion works great. They had an update during the Mavs beta; that would be recommended. (And yes, that means there's a new version of VMWare Tools, though my VMs seem to work fine without updating that.)

My only immediate concerns are XCode and Parallels - my quick research suggests that Parallels 8 is just fine with Mavericks, but I might wait a few days and check their forums, see if anything is up.

Where's the Shared Links thing in Safari? My sidebar only shows Bookmarks and Reading List. Can't find anything in Preferences or on any of the menus

I wonder how iWork 08 (Pages, Numbers, Keynote) and iLife 08 (GarageBand) apps will work on Mavericks. They're fine on Mountain Lion.

You mean by law? What's this now?

It was an accounting & taxation thing relating to a rule that IIRC necessitated linking deductibility of R&D costs to revenue. Guess the rule has either been clarified or Apple has found a way around it.

Java Runtime

Is there anywhere else to grab the Java Runtimes? I've got two pieces of software that use them. It tries to auto-update when I launch the software but says there's a network problem (I assume the servers are slammed).

Download took about three hours. Install was going OK, but it's been hung on 'less than a minute' for about five minutes.

How long should I give it before I restart?

2012 15" Macbook pro, 16gB RAM.

EDIT: It finally rebooted. Answer is just wait....

Are you using version 5 which I have?

Did anyone hear a confirmation of what the oldest hardware capable of running Mavericks might be??

I've got a black Macbook running 10.6.8 (the terminal OS for this system) that I'd love to upgrade while I decide which new iMac desktop to buy...

If it can run Lion and Mountain Lion, it can run Mavericks.

Looks like no plastic MacBooks need apply:(

The early '09 onward plastic MacBooks can run Mavericks. As long as it has the nVidea 9400m chipset.

I have to say, kudos to Craig Federighi - that was a really smooth presentation. Fast, feature-packed and seamless. Really great job. I really felt echoes of Steve during his bit.

So far Mavericks has been a nightmare for me. My 2012 MacBook Pro is laggy/slow as hell. I can't type without the system locking up.

I agree 101% - when Tim Cook retires, Craig should take over as CEO. That'll of course leave the VP of Software Engineering open for me to slip into ... :D

Waiting for at least 10.9.1... if not 10.9.3. Bit too many times... Let you bleeding edge guinea pigs iron out the last few bugs for me.... ;)

So, please... as many people as possible... please install... the more the merrier, and the better the product when I upgrade.....

Ive been using the GM on 2 machines, for a month. Works fantastic and FASTER.

I'm using a 2008 Mac Pro and a new MB Pro.

Depending on your setup, Your mileage may vary.

Well this sucks.. Cisco is always slow with their updates. AnyConnect for OS X isn't supported yet.

So what do we know about running WindowsXP in a Bootcamp partition in Mavericks? I have read conflicting reports. Some say it isn't supported. Others say it will continue to work if it was installed under previous versions of Bootcamp.

Sigh!

I can't download the App on my MacBook Pro..... o_O - Been having this issue for 2hrs now.
