So around two million people have already updated? In the music world that's double platinum in two days, despite Up-to-date code issues.

Sounds pretty successful to me, considering it costs $20, and doesn't come through the software update..

Note thati updated my post. Just letting off steam. Although its genuine disgust. I doubt I could actually go through returning my product. They win.

ML is a POS, but at the very least you should've read the rules first. I am sure it states "refurbs are not eligible"...

It says they are on their site. I did read first.

So legally they have no way of rejecting your request...show them the rules and escalate the problem.

It said after the anouncement. All qualifying new macs and qualifying refurbished macs.

Well I just got my email. REJECTED! I bought the most expensive refurbished iMac on the Australian Apple website a few weeks back. If that doesn't qualify as a qualifying refurbished Mac I don't know what would!

I've been a sturdy Apple user/owner since about 1987. I've put many people onto Macs. And this tops the cake in a gradual feeling of discontent I've been getting in the last few years.

Well I've worked for a couple of years in a Win only ICT environment and although I didn't like it I came to realize it works, has more games, more software for business, more software and hardware flexibility and options at expense of quality and security. But it still works. And if I don't like that I could use Ubunu.

Well f##k you Apple. I'll be returning my referbished piece of Apple cr#p to my nearest dealer on Monday before work.

I wish I didn't feel this way because I still have fond memories for the company, but it's lost it's soul and on M$ level Apple can't compete.

Is it an over reaction? My departing says not, if my future business means anything to them. It apparently doesn't.

Well I doubt I could really pull that off. Just ignore me.

Cheers all.

I think you are overreacting.
You thought the refurb was elgible for up-to-date. But it isn't.
It's just a misunderstanding.
So you can return it, or buy ML, or run without ML, whatever you want. Misunderstanding solved. No need to go ballistic.

Well it goes without saying I'll try contacting them. I don't care about the $21AUS but principally Apples dropped the ball and I've been seeing them slide for a few years now.

It said clearly it was. Right above the blue button.

it still amazes me how many people are willing to just jump on a version 0 of a major software update, without waiting to see if there are problems, or at least until version .1

no way in hell i would risk computer downtime just so i could be "first" to download. i mean, there really is no rush.

No downtime. I just put it on a separate partition until I'm ready to do the full move.

Customers who purchase a qualifying new Mac computer from the Apple Online Store, an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorised Reseller — or an Apple Certified Refurbished computer from the Apple Online Store — between 11*June 2012 and 25*July 2012 that does not include OS X Mountain Lion can upgrade to OS*X Mountain*Lion for*free.

Click this link to participate in the program. Your order must be entered by 24*August 2012. Subject to terms and conditions.

Got that from here

You may want to read up on Kant's categorical imperative.

Actually, I'm the bike probably not quite lane splitting, but damn close to ;)

A day ? I can reinstall my home computer in about 2 hours if I ever need to. And I haven't needed to in years.

But you're not the average home user that needs to call a friend and then sit there figuring everything out again when your bookmarks and so on are gone are you?

...which means 97% isn't coming from ML. Doesn't sound like a triumph to me.

It does to me. For the first day that is a staggering amount of sales. This would have never been achived back in the days of OS X on DVDs.

A large percentage of the non-upgraders will either be unaware, don't really care for it or cannot upgrade due to lack of support. Not to mention all the moaning users who are currently on the flawed up-to-date program.

The majority of users don't ever upgrade until it is time to buy a new computer.

i ended up receiving 3 codes starting from 7pm EST last night to 1pm EST today because i submitted the form 3 times. Glad i got them but they should have noticed i sent three.

okay, we get it dude. you do not like ML. you don't have to post it on every bit of news that comes out about it. damn
Just a friendly reminder.

This is a forum of public opinion, you're not in charge.

Thanks for your co-operation. :)

As far as the adoption rate of ML, it seems about right.

Leading up to it's release, it seems that there was mostly positive feedback and reasonable expectations. So far so good.

Or perhaps this (again, still underwhelming) rate was only achieved BECAUSE most people have an Apple account nowadays...right?

I'm not sure I 100% follow you, but I agree that the Apple ID ecosystem will have in no doubt helped sales.
