I find a DVD doesn't have enough space, but a flash drive or external drive works OK.

Maybe a Dual-Layer DVD would be good enough.
It's strange why it's so big. Lion fits on a DVD, and Mountain Lion is supposed to be more streamlined, so I'm not sure why it doesn't fit on a regular DVD.

It should fit, since the file is 4.3GB.

I noticed there are dozens of people all around the world having the redemption code error. I guess I just have to wait for Apple to fix it for everyone.

My download finished fine and now I am just waiting for my USB Key to finish being made! 26 minutes left... Then it's upgrade time!!!!!! Cant wait, the suspense is killing me!! haha :D :apple:

via Apple UK tech support regarding the redemption codes:

"Apple are aware of the problem and they will send out new emails with new codes to affected people."

And me! Not only is the waiting painful but I have a 2.5mb connection to download it on. Joys of being outside of a fibre zone in the UK.

You must be in wales or the Highlands then? Pretty sure BT cover most areas now.

As of now (and maybe earlier) Thailand's got it. Downloading. Goes from 2 hours to 8 hours +

It's already 9.18pm here!

Downloading in the UK here now too. Looks like it'll take about 3 hours but that is over 3G. I wish BT would get their act sorted out and connect up my new homes broadband.

25 mins!! Jesus, you have fast i'net! 0.0

Just under an hour for me. Around 500MB downloaded so far.

I guess it would depend on where are you downloading from.

I'm sure the U.S. App Store is getting slammed real bad with all the simultaneous downloads going on.
And internet traffic must be very heavy as well, considering the size of the downloads, including today's updates to Mac Apps, iOS Apps and finally Mountain Lion Installation.

I would say is about 10 GB average per user (of both a Mac and one iOS device; users with both an iPad and iPhone will add more to the formula)
