Currently, we don't support controller based navigation, we have some ideas on how and what to do there but we're open for suggestions.

Give me my sharp jagged pixels on as large a display as possible. I love it! Any attempt to "smooth" them will be met with as much animosity as I can muster for 3:45 on a Tuesday! Garrrrrhhhhh!

Yeah, blurring the pixels kinda defeats the whole point of retro, IMO.

Will this thing get computer emulation engines too? Amiga, Atari ST, C64, etc...

Well, what direction do you think it's going? And what arguments do you think they use for App Store on iOS? It's naive to think that they are not going this route.

Like I said, everything is prepared. They just need to disable that little option in the settings, and it's done. And if they chose to say anything in the matter, they will say that 'most of our users are downloading apps from the Mac App Store. We recommend other app makers to get a developer ID and preferably put their app directly on the App Store'.

Sure, it might cause a *****torm, but I bet they are soooo tempted to go ahead with it for OS X 10.9.

If you think it's inevitable, you should switch to Linux right now and spend your energy elsewhere. And don't switch to Windows 8 because it already has Metro apps locked to the MS Store.

Here's a build of 1.0.0b9 I made like two weeks ago: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/794691/NPTN/OpenEmu/OpenEmu.dmg

It includes the BSNES, CrabEmu, FCEU, Gambatte, GenesisPlus, Mupen64Plus, NeoPop, Nestopia, SNES9x, and VisualBoyAdvance cores. I've also uploaded a DeSmuMe core plugin, although it doesn't add a section to the Game Library for DS ROMs and I'm currently too lazy to figure out why/how to do that.

You can get that plugin here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/794691/NPTN/OpenEmu/DeSmuME.plugin.zip

I've been working on a Dolphin core plugin, but my knowledge of Cocoa development is pretty limited so it's not a speedy endeavor for me.

Thanks for the build! When trying to run N64 roms I get an error that reads "The operation couldn’t be completed. (OECoreUpdaterErrorDomain error -1.)" I'm not sure if it's your build's fault or OpenEmu's. Any ideas?

Still prefer MESS...
That's fine but if your throwing arguments out there you should make sure they are correct. (fceux)

MESS is a great emulator, but it's far from perfect.
Many drivers aren't complete and/or aren't perfect.

Plus OpenEmu isn't writing these emulation cores themselves. They are using established cores from other emulators. So in a way it is a modern GUI for emulation so comparing with MESS directly is a bit of a stretch.

MESS is hardly a user friendly GUI for the average user, even using a front end like QMC2 is overly complex.

So both MESS and OpenEmu have features that can be a benefit to different users needs.

I finally got around to successfully compiling this last night, and WOW! What an excellent program. Even in Windows, I've found the emulation experience to vary wildly, to the point where I've never really fooled with it.

It's wonderful to have a nice looking, searchable, easy-to-navigate library of pretty much every game from my childhood. This was my wildest dream when I was a kid.

As a Mac user, having controller support out of the box is a crucial feature. I could never get any Mac emulators working well with my Xbox controller, so this is a godsend.

I'm not sure when it was added, but the version I compiled now supports N64. Keeping my fingers crossed for Playstation by the time it's officially released.

To the devs: thank you, thank you, thank you. This is a dream come true and I think it will open up emulation for a lot of people who otherwise wouldn't have even bothered.

Same problem here, but only on one of my machines. Did you ever fix it?

Nevermind, I fixed it. I noticed that in the cores folder (in Library/Application Support) I was missing the Mugen core that runs N64 games. Grabbed that from another machine, all is well.
