I'm a little hesitant to upgrade my late 2008 macbook uniminium. Says it's compatible but I'm not sure how far I can (or am willing to) push this little core2duo. Runs great with Mavericks though (aside from HD videos being skippy in playback).

I've been running the public betas on my late '08 MBP with ease. I have a 256gb SSD instead of a hard drive.

So the GM shouldn't be a problem

Got it downloaded on both my MBP and iMac in about 20 minutes each and have it installed on the MBP so far. Aside from having to get used to the new look, so far so good I would say.

Download done

now it just needs to be installed...

22 minutes to go, but it's late and I'm gonna go # and let the mbp do the work

See the result tomorrow... uhmm later #

What the hell is feedback assistant?

If you were running your machine under the Public Beta you would get the Feedback Assistant. It made it easier to publish a report to Apple regarding an issue or bug you may incur with 10.10.

Finished downloading about 3 hours ago, but I made a Thumb Drive installer via Terminal and did a fresh reinstall + Restore from TM from PB6 on my Mac Pro. Backing up on my rMBP now to get ready for install!

A little word of warning:

If you download Yosemite from the Mac App Store and install it on the same machine, the original installer may disappear from your Applications folder (probably as a means to save hard drive space).

Before you begin installation, copy the "Install OS X Yosemite" to a separate folder or drive, and keep it as a backup, so you don't have dread downloading the whole 5.16GB all over again when needed.

I'm learning the hard way when I got home from work to install it on my MacBook Pro and it's no longer on my Mac mini which I remotely updated.

I dislike how Safari looks now :(. Other than that, at least from that video, sounds really good.

Question, for the icloud folder (that acts like drop box), is it also like dropbox in that it is also on my computer. As in if I don't have internet connection I can still access the file (and it will just upload it later when I get 'net connection again)?

Or is the stuff in the icloud folder solely in icloud?

If I install this, will I regain my recovery partition? Or do I have to wipe my drive first and then install Yosemite?

Sorry, but I answer TECH question / HELP on discussions.apple.com

people are having LOTS OF ISSUES with Yosemite

But if you want to be open field BETA TESTERS, sobeit. :D:D:D

Maybe it's a Canadian thing but....I started the download at 11:00 p.m. It's now 12:45 a.m. - and it's telling me it has 4 hours to go. Guess I'll hit the hay and check on it tomorrow.

And this posts was helpful how? I've been running the beta since PB1 and have had NO issues and there are many others with the same experience.

ripe generalization

You said------" I've been running the beta since PB1 and have had NO issues"

on WHAT MAC?

ALL OF THEM ? (no way)

What configuration? ( only 1 or 2 at most)

Dont take your SPECIFIC experience and generalize.

There are a LOT of diff. models and configs . culminating in MANY VARIABLES.

Don't generalize? You are the one that seems to be generalizing.

Using the most current public beta, not seeing the update in the App Store. Am I currently running the final build? Or do I need to do something else..

… not seeing the update in the App Store. … do I need to do something else..

Generally – without reference to Yosemite – please don't rush to post.

Reading the earlier parts of this topic would have found the answers that you require.

For other readers (Dekema2 already learnt the reason):

Yosemite is not an 'update'.
