My install would get to '0 seconds remaining', then fail with the message I posted earlier. I'm now back on my Mavericks install from this morning.

I'd formatted my SSD beforehand, so I was somewhat nervous, despite having backups. Time Machine saved my behind.

Good luck, my friend.

Turns out it had installed, and as jammed at the transition from installation to reboot. I rebooted, and it went straight to the desktop. All updates went smoothly except for one from Ambrosia software.

Unfortunately, I now find that my iMac isn't new enough for the Handoff feature. (There's only two years of backward computability) That is problematic because I really don't see the need for an upgrade without that feature. I'm trying to find a Bluetooth dongle that will solve the problem. Wish my luck again. ;)

From what I've read, unfortunately a dongle won't do it, at least for now. The bluetooth 4.0 has to be part of the Mac's build.

Mid 2011 MBA

Still no Handoff love for my Mid 2011 MBA. Which sucks, considering my MBA has the LE Bluetooth version 4.3 that's needed. :(

VERY sad! I was really looking forward to the Handoff feature. I was also hoping an open source dongle might work. Too bad! I get that Apple needs to sell more hardware, but only 2 years of backward compatibility seems a bit unfair. :(

I have to agree and would like to go back to Mavericks...there is absolutely no depth and looks amateurish. I like how everything popped before, now it's just flat. I do like that it's easier on the eyes...odd to say that because of the previous sentence. Even iTunes is unappealing. How do I reinstall Mavericks?

da ***?

Please disregard if this post is sarcasm.....

I'm baffled. Who the hell blindly installs a new OS they've obviously never seen while at the same time belonging to a Mac Forum where they've had plenty of opportunities to preview what Yosemite looks like (in addition to the thousands of screenshots and previews on the internet)???

P.S. I think Yosemite is gorgeous and a welcome change.

I'm with you.

I haven't installed Yosemite yet (possibly never will), so maybe I'm missing something, but have you never heard of Skype? Or FaceTime even?

We're talking about handoff, sending/receiving calls and SMS from/to your iPhone, using your Mac.

Where's the "Photos" app that was supposed to take over from iPhoto?

You mean the one  said they were shipping early next year? Yeah, it's not next year yet.

Are you saying everyone else knows its FUGLY?

Because most articles are about FEATURES. But, as Apple users know more than most, the user-interface ... the GUI, the look and feel ... is a very significant aspect to the way one uses a computer. And this is just appallingly bad. It's what one might expect from Microsoft. It's got Microsoft written all over it.

Waste of time ... now to get rid of it. Mavericks is far better.

There have been screenshots and videos of Yosemite all over the internet for months now. Not only that, it was also demo'd by  at WWDC.

I swear people act new to the internet sometimes and just like to complain just about anything.

So what I am saying is: give it a shot. Chances are within a few weeks you will forget that it's even different and appreciate its objective aesthetic improvements.

Of course I'll give it a shot, didn't you notice the bit where I said I'd be downloading it anyway? I don't just not use Operating Systems just because I think they look ugly. Windows XP looked awful but I still used it okay. Yosemite looks even worse, but the features are great and that is what really matters to me.

Just like with cars I guess.

Three times now on this failure right at the end of the download.

Never had this issue with any of the Public Betas or Developer Versions.

Annoying.

FaceTime Issues?

Hello,

Does anyone have problems with FaceTime calls?
I have upgraded to Yosemite on my wife's Macbook Air and everything works perfect but FaceTime.

- If she is getting FaceTime calls, only the iPhone is ringing even if both (mac and iPhone) are logged to the same account.

- If trying to call someone from mac, the app rings without making any connection and if you give up and cancel it, it will still ring continuously until you quit the app.

I think will wait a bit more before upgrading my macbook pro until this is fixed.
Or.. maybe I will upgrade it to see if it has the same problem... still debating with myself on that ;)

PS: I am facing problems with FaceTime calls not this new phone calls feature. Also, my wife's iPhone is still on ios7 and this problem has nothing to do with it.

Cheers!

Both devices have to be connected to the same wifi also. I forgot this when I was at work and wondering why it wasn't working. :)
(I'm assuming you're asking about the new calling feature and not regular FaceTime....)

Thank you for your reply. I am taking about regular facetime calls (that was working before Yosemite). Also, I do not have ios8 on the iPhone.

I think its standard now that everything Apple has in their keynotes are now 'Free' including the OS.

And so they should.... they make enough on hardware.... this should of been done a long time ago....... $29 per OS, per user isn't much when u talk of hardware costs anyway, so it makes sense to make it free.

However, i'm not one of them :)

Let u guys bang on 10.10, and cry over bugs... while i stay surfing on Mavericks free as a bird.....

I've tried four times now to do a clean install, to no avail. It just doesn't like it for some reason.

I'm on a 2010 iMac so am in the same boat as you with regards to handoff or continuity. I can't even update though, so I'm not missing much at the moment ;)

I'll try updating over my current Mavericks install instead tomorrow. Then try a fresh install from the recovery partition. I just always like a clean install with major versions.

Glad you got it sorted, enjoy the flatness!

Took me about 14 hours but now that I've got it, I like it!

Most things work fine, some are possibly a bit snappier, one or two things don't work (Tweet Deck?).

Not sure bout the system font (is it Helvetica?), but it's quite readable at least.

Best thing so far, the volume button no longer makes a noise.

Icons are nice especially external disks - very easy to spot. Flatness and translucency work well IMHO. It's all about recognising what you're looking for in a fraction less time.

I imagine they do studies mapping eye movements, with different skins, and this one must have produced less searching.

The notification centre is good, though probably needs a little more work. I use it a lot for messaging. Find is nice - I may ditch Alfred now (sorry Alfred). Still discovering stuff.

Pro Tools 9.0.6, Apogee Control Panel, Digi 003R drivers, Logic X, Waves V9.3 , iLok, UVI, PScs6; -all seem to work fine. The "real memory" of the OS looks about the same as Mavericks. The menu text is much clearer, much easier on my 47-year-old eyes. Still testing, and it will be some time before I'm willing to migrate this to my main drive but so far, I'm impressed.

Has anyone ever gotten Keychain to work?

Sign me "Waiting for your approval on your other device"...

I was able to download Yosemite last night in about an hour. So far, I really like the look. Contemplating on doing a clean install and starting over with everything...

You find a model that actually functions properly, let us know.
That's funny all my non Apple phones seem to function properly, my original HTC desire still works 4 years later, all my computers still function properly. If you don't drink Koolaid it's amazing what you can find for much better prices.

Don't worry about unfair, Apple is making heaps of money, that's all that counts when you're an Apple lover.

No bugs for me, and I've been running it since August at least.

For you guys that want to do a clean install. Make a bootable USB/FW/TB drive. Then when you launch the installer, run Disk Utility first, format the drive, then run the installer. simple as that.
