Any developer (or non-developer) has made an installation pendrive of Yosemite?
Is it safe to download it from.. other sources than App Store?

I'd rather install it as a new partition... I guess the classical way of doing a USB Boot drive is working for Yosemite too. Isn't it?

Thanks.

Huge mistake! PLEASE HELP

I should have known better but in the excitement of Apple releasing Yosemite I being an IOS developer downloaded the Yosemite not thinking it would be nearly this buggy because pre release iOS software isn't nearly this bad. I ended up installing it on my main mac an can barely use it is there any way i can revert back to a stable version pf mavericks for a few weeks till this becomes a bit more stable.

----------

Another problem I have ran into is I am running this on my mac book pro retina display but it will not allow me to turn up the audio at all and in the system prefs it shows that there is no output device! please help i need to get audio working.

You cannot revert from a beta to an older version. The only thing you can do is restore from a time machine backup (you should always make a backup before major changes like this) or reinstall Mavericks. There are really no other options for you.

Time machine backup? If not... you need to do a fresh Mavericks install.

Time machine, or carbon copy cloner. Please tell me you have a backup?

I only saw one other person mention this, but since 10.6 you can install OS X in a virtual machine, as long as the host environment is running on Apple Hardware. VM Ware Fusion isn't terribly expensive and you can indulge your beta desires without risking your stable installation.

Thanks.

I have an external 500 GB Seagate drive that has a single partition at the moment. I was trying to figure whether to create a partition on it for Yosemite, or create one on my main HD on my MBP.

I think this is going to be my route as well - I have a secondary external I can put it on. If that drive goes down, I really don't care. That way I can run it on both my iMac and MBA from the HD.

Will likely stick to using it on my iMac as my MBA is too important to mess with.

No idea, Apple presumably when it gets released to the public.

1) Restore with time machine.
2) Pay attention to MacRumors for [2nd] developer preview.
3) Install it, check for stability.
4) If not stable enough, goto 1.
5) else enjoy stable beta release.

I managed to get the site to work literally just as the Keynote came to an end :) so hopefully I get my download code in the coming weeks. The website was so slow took about 5 min to respond. I'll leave it off my i5 iMac and just put it on my MBP since it gets very little use these days.

They'll probably beat the record for most public beta sign ups

No, there have been *MUCH* wider public betas. For example: Gmail was technically a "beta" for a very long time.

Siri was a "beta" for a full year after the iPhone 4S came out.

Microsoft had a *HUGE* public beta program for Windows 95, 98, and XP.

Hell, Apple even had a public beta program when OS X first came out! (I still boot it on my G4 Cube every so often, just for fun.)

Has ANYONE actually rec'd one of these redemption codes??? They did say today, as in Paciic Time, I suppose. lol...

I signed up for the OS X Beta Testing for Mavericks. Is there a need to register again for Yosemite????

Did Mavericks have a public beta program?

I believe I'm from one of the 50's who signup right after the website gone live, fingers crossed lets se when ill get the email.

The pubic beed to install the beta on a separate drive or partition.

Helping Apple find any bugs that internal and the devs have not found, as well wider new OS compatibility with the apps you need is always great to have. I think wider beta testing will help this.

Did Mavericks have a public beta program?

yes but for 10.9.3, and i was part of it.

if you have signed up for maverick beta testing then you have to sign in and request for this beta as well, like i did, but still no luck not received any code or mail from Apple.:(

other than that one who reported issues.

anyone know of apps not working etc ?
Planning on trying it in Parallels Desktop, to ensure not having beta software as my main OS.

OS X betas have always been buggy to start with, only after preview 3-4 it's stable enough to use daily. and a lot of apps have generally not worked and only gaining support weeks later (no other developers have had this OS in their hands until yesterday...unless you are really really big but then you wont release support until official release anyway)

At the very end. Just one single beta was ever released to non-debs, which was 10.9.3 and the build number had the letter c in it at the end.

However, I'm trying to inure out how to get Yosemite, because I was already registered or the OS X Beta program.

And again, has anyone ever gotten their "redemption codes"? Please post the minute you do.

Thanks!

I've used both Mountain Lion and Mavericks since DP3 (beta 3) as my permanent OS. I'm just going to install it in a virtual machine to see how it looks and if it's usable.

Been running Yosemite for about 12 hours with no problems yet. iOS8 did cause a couple of crashes with the Line appl, but that is it so far. Very nicely done Apple.

One question guys.

If I sign up, will I be able to continue with stable Mavericks releases until I decide to install Yosemite beta (In July or August, for instance)? Will I get accidentally Mavericks beta versions on my MacBook Pro? Can I have Mavericks stable in one mac (without beta updates) and Yosemite beta in other computer?

Thank you a lot :)

Mavericks betas are a separate program. What will happen is that Yosemite will show up as an available download on the Mac App Store. If you want to install it on a particular Mac, download it from that one. You don't need to download it onto any other Mac you own.

A good strategy is to clone your Mac to an external drive using a program like Carbon Copy Cloner before installing the beta. That way you can easily go back to what you had before.

Another option is to clone your existing Mac to a bootable external drive, reboot from that drive and install Yosemite there.
