It seems you have to open and/or save/export in every app to make things readjust.
And I am not sure if the adjustments to the sidebar is adjusted consistently…

I'm not convinced this is fully fixed. It doesn't seem to want to remember my settings when I adjust the screen size using the OPTION key. Any ideas/suggestions? It's definitely better than it was but doesn't feel like it was before the bug popped up.

You might want to submit another radar to Apple...

I submitted a new report, the sidebar seems to be reset to a very small width, still an annoying bug.
Join me here:
Thanks, I've gone ahead and submitted another report. The issue tends be when saving a file, the sidebar width is just too small and always reverts back to whatever that setting is.

It seems the first time you do open/save and adjust the dialog box, it remembers as long as the app is running.
Then when you quit and relaunch the app, it forgets again.

Nope. It seems to randomly forget the settings. Sometimes it remembers, sometime it doesn't. But when you quit and relaunch, it always forgets.

Annoying.

Something that has "just worked" for decades, and they managed to break it. Unbelievable.

Sidebar still reduces down to unreadable width. Every. Time.

From a developer POV, it sounds like a component write, but they forgot about this part, now they are scrambling everything to make it work again.

I can't think of anything else for breaking such a simple functionality.

When using the open/save function (opening a window) I resize it to reflect my needs.
A sidebar with sufficient width to read my folder names and a larger window at all to be able to navigate through folders.

In previous versions of all OSX-versions if I recall it correctly, including Big Sur 11.0 this resized size became the new standard.

With the latest install of Big Sur (11.1) the open/save window reverts to a standard size.
So now I have to resize the window every time I open/save files.

Screenshot: 5K iMac-screen with open/save window in InDesign: standard size.

I am finding this very annoying. Has it been fixed?

Definitely not fixed. Have experienced the same issue since upgrading to Big Sur. I'm currently on 11.2.1 and the same thing is happening. The Finder window settings/preferences reset and you have to manually adjust the finder window each and every time. Very frustrating and currently regret upgrading to Big Sur. Such a basic UI issue that has always worked, they broke it, and have now completely overlooked fixing it.

Installing 11.2.2 now. Hoping it fixes the sidebar not remember it's size in open/save dialogs. So annoying. Like someone else said... something that's worked since like... I dunno... the 80's? And they break it. And failed to fix it properly. Ugg.

Just finished installing 11.2.2... launched an app... opened a file with the open dialog... resized the sidebar... quit the app... opened again and... it seems to have fixed the issue! WOO!

I experienced the same behavior when I installed the previous beta, but after a few openings and closes and reboots and stuff the bug came back. So, I would hold my horses before calling victory. :)

(I'm about to install 11.2.2 myself)

Yah I spoke too soon. It seemed like it was based on a quick test I did right after install but having using it for a few days now it's obviously it's still not fixed. For frig sake Apple... COME ON. Uggh.
