No.

Just iphone. If I want to discuss a different phone I would go to howardforums.

But it's not a whole forum about different phones, it's just a thread.

I would hate to see competitor phone threads made and then deleted. It shouldn't be that locked down.

From a practical matter, the number of people, the knowledge of people and the experience of people on howardforums is 1000x better then the info you could get from a post about any phone other then the iphone around here IMO.

So if a person wanted the best most informed knowledge in the quickest manner..

again, howardforums

i guess

it would be nice to talk about iphone killers but maybe in 1 thread per phone and not the moto razor or phones like that just smartphones (storm, htc, etc)

I would only allow it if the phone has a reliable and realistic way to sync with your Mac.

PocketMac doesn't count.

I can wholeheartedly agree with this.

I don't think the poll needs to close at all. Keep it going until there is either a forum for other phones or the iPhone fanboys start flaming other posters.

Either way, it's no where near 70% and hasn't gotten close since the poll opened. It's probably going to lean more towards 50/50 or stay at 55/45, in which case there should be a forum.

My two cents....

This is an iPhone forum. Discuss iPhones here only. If there are pople who want to talk about other devices, then create an "Other Devices" forum under the iPhone forum. I have no problem with people discussing the pros and cons of different devices, but I come one here to discuss the iPhone....not Blackberry. The easiest way to solve this is to create a forum specifically for other device users. If after a few weeks there is no interest, then delete it.

Given the lack of any varied discussion on the iPhone forum (the only thing you can find are zealots talking about how much they love their toys, or people looking for the best social networking app) there will be plenty of interest.

I personally like to hear about everything that's out there, good and bad, especially if it's objective. Personally, I bought a BB Bold for myself because I found that it can do most everything an iPhone can do and many more (i.e. voice dialing that nails my odd last name and that of my fiance every time, XM Radio, editing MS Office docs, infinitely expandable memory (although I stick with my 17 Gb total), organizer and calendar that holds more info, physical keyboard that is easier to type fast on (at least to me), and screen with higher ppi, to name just a few). However, I think the iPhone is an outstanding device. I recommended it to my fiance and she is now the happy owner of one and despite my preference for the Bold, I think that the iPhone suited her needs better and at a better price since she didn't need the 16Gb version.

As for the hotly debated BB Storm. As a BB lover I can say that it is a disappointment and is bested by the iPhone. The Storm's touchscreen simply doesn't work as well. I made frequent errors in typing on the thing and found it to be clunky in its interface overall, again due to it's odd touchscreen. I also think the Storm will likely have durability issues, but that's purely speculation on my part.

I welcome any feedback, as long as it's polite. Remember, I think the iPhone and various iterations of the iPod are great, the iPhone just wasn't the right phone for me at this time. Knowing Apple, they'll rise to the challenge with the next version of the iPhone or OS updates.

A good reason to have the discussion is to solve issues like the one I am having right now. For some reason Missing Sync won't recognize my HTC Touch. I plug it up and nothing happens. It used to start syncing automatically, but now, nothing.

Not that the other forums wouldn't be able to help me, but I know having info here would make it easier for those Mac users that don't have an iPhone.

Get an iPhone. Problem solved.

That's what I thought at one point.

Then I remembered that dropping it destroys it, and AT&T doesn't provide insurance for it.

Then I remembered that I pay less for more with Sprint, while AT&T gouges the price of the plan.

Also, I can't create Office docs or iWork docs on it, and that it's missing a few more features that I'd expect in a phone that costs that much.

And some people don't have flawless syncing and push with it either.

I am more in a pick your poison mode right now.

I don't mind seeing threads about other phones. If the poll is very close could other phones' threads be grouped in a sticky or is that too much work for the mods? So far there's only a minority of these threads and if you're not interested they're easy to pass over.

I voted yes because I think competition is good for the iPhone. I think all these storm threads and instinct threads, show how much better the iPhone is than any other touch screen smartphone out there.

There's no talk of changing anything at the moment. This was just my own personal curiosity. Also, we get rashes of threads about other handsets when newsworthy models are released. We've had seventeen Storm threads in the past couple of months and that's just in this forum alone... there are others outside this forum.

I'm just as interested in hearing potential solutions and others' experiences of how other forums manage things. Some time ago, way before the iPhone was a rumor, people asked for a handset forum... maybe it's time to start thinking about how to accommodate that interest that doesn't inconvenience the slight majority (so far) who want to read and talk solely about the iPhone.

This is very true, and I am sure many of them may have started because users didn't know the previous threads existed.

I agree with this too. There are many people out there using Macs and software made for Macs that deal with cell phones, syncing, etc. that would benefit greatly from a handset forum.

Those users that prefer the iPhone have plenty of places to go.

I thought of another great reason for the thread!

It would be invaluable to those users that dropped their iPhone on the carpet and cracked the screen. Those forums can show them what phone they should have bought since the iPhone can't handle being dropped.

Sorry, I had to. Just came back from Apple Store and laughed my @$$ off at this guy screaming at a Concierge because of the weak construction of the iPhone.

I was slightly confused by the poll question, but basically I agree with others above that I like to read and discuss iPhone competitors in here and wouldn't like them in another forum, as I would probably never go there. I like how its working now. Keep it up guys!
