iPhone forum users, are you tired of threads about the Storm (for instance) clogging up the iPhone forum? Or do you want every new iPhone-killer product to be endlessly dissected in here?

Do you come to this forum to talk and read about the iPhone or do you like this being a handset free for all?

Enquiring minds would like to know. Thanks.

I dont care. It doesnt bother me and i think calling every new phone that comes out an iPhone killer is stupid.

Agreed. Which is why I can't stand and tech reviews about phones anymore. Every touch screen phone that come out now will automatically be held against the iPhone and touted as an iPhone killer, then when it doesn't have all the glitter and gold it gets bashed to death.

Forget that the device may do things the iPhone can't do, it doesn't have iTunes and 100,000 social networking apps to download so it's garbage.

I say we have a whole cell phone category in addition to the iPhone.

Well im not saying they are garbage either. No matter what Blackberry or anybody comes out with, it just isnt going to kill the iPhone. I like Blackberry's myself. They are good phones but no phone is going to kill the iPhone. It will always be around because there is just too much you can do with it for it to go away.

Only Apple can kill the iPhone.

True, but remember that the only thing going for the iPhone is the UI. All other hardware equal, including AT&T's poor 3G, the iPhone wins on Ui alone.

Once you take the hardware for what it's worth, the iPhone wins here and there, and looses as well.

There are many Mac/Mobile Me/iTunes/iPod users that haven't found the perfect phone yet.

Why would they even consider it?

This is MAC rumors, not RIM rumors, or Samsung rumors.

Mac = Apple
Mac = iPhone

I think if you want to discuss other phones or "handsets", go to other sites...... key: google, yahoo

Hence your logic states we should discontinue the Community Forums too. :rolleyes:

That and about a quarter of the other forums and threads on the site.

I didn't realize it was about creating a seperate forum section. I thought it just meant allowing posts about other phones for comparative discussion. I don't think an entire section is needed. But I also think allowing posts is a good thing. It's easy enough to merge them as they come up or lock the repetitive ones.

Now if it's too big a strain on the moderators then that's a different conversation altogether.

I think it will be a strain on everyone after a while. I doubt much non-iPhone talk comes through here, but when it does I know it gets swamped with fanboys that don't want to hear someone else's opinion as to why they like brand X, and not the iPhone.

The iPhone is great, but we should always be aware of the other competitors. Not discussing other phones here is just like Apple creating an iPhone that doesn't have a screen-because they like it.
We should always be open to other people's views.

When the Pre is released, I have a feeling there are going to be a TON of threads about how to sync it with Mobile Me, iCal, Address Book, etc.

I say just take the hit, and make the "competitors" forum now.

I propose that there be a rule to the effect of the following added to this forum's FAQ/rules:

Q: Is discussion of other handsets permitted?

Yes, on one condition: it must be relevant to the iPhone. Comparison reviews, stories of switching from/to another handset, and the like are all fine. Topics to the effect of "The iPhone is teh sux0rz, u noobs should buy <handset>", however, are not. Please such threads to other topics/boards.

In addition, threads discussing the use of other handsets with other, non-iPhone products are not suitable for posting in this forum.
