omg the screen protector looks absolutely horrible. Wrote to otterbox and complained...removing mine immediately.

Way to destroy a beautiful retina display. Looks like a tv set in the 50s, grainy, really really bad.

How much of a pain is it to swipe in notification center now that the entire bezel is covered by the case?

I got the new Dedender but I think I'm going to return it because the screen protector detracts too much from the display. I could rip it off but I don't want to pay for a $90 case if I'm not using it all.

It's actually worth doing the mod. I have the Defender for my 4S and I took out the screen protector and put on an SGP Crystal screen protector. I LOVE this combo. All of the Defender protection without the crappy stock screen protector.

Love the case, however the screen protector is my biggest complaint, any word on how easy it is to remove from the case?

Just out of curiosity, how have you done this if the SGP hasn't yet come out?

In my post I said I took the screen protector out of my iPhone 4S Defender case and put a SGP Crystal on the phone instead. I was saying you can do the same type of thing for the iPad Defender.

I did the same thing on my iPhone 4. Peeled off the screen protector provided by the defender and used a Martin Fields Overlay. No doubt the screen looks much better, but at the expense of a tremendous amount of lint trapped between the screen and the defender case on top of the silicon case as well....

I doubt lint will be an issue with an iPad, unless you have big pockets.

I've decided to return mine. Once I took it off and started using the iPad naked I just fell in love with it without the case on. It really detracts from the design. However if you're needing something to protect it on a construction site or something it would be great. I'm a student though.

Any pics of the case on the ipad ?

The integrated screen protector was removed and replaced with a Power Support HD Anti-Glare.

Case looks really nice, reminds me of my iPod otterbox case. I will wait till Amazon has it for around $50 or just buy the Griffin survivor.

I removed the screen protector on the Otterbox, it took forever o get the remaining sticky glue off but I finally got it, I didn't have a screen poet or on my original Otterbox for the iPad 2 so I may just keep it screen poet or less. I use the hard plastic front cover anyway.

I am just curious. Because my current ipad2 case has this small problem. The area where the black portion of the defender case covers the black border of the iPad 2 does not sit fully on top of the glass. Only the edges sit on top of the glass whereas the areas around the middle portion of the case has a small gap which obviously allows lint to go into it. Is this present in the current gen as well?

I spoke to OtterBox customer support this morning and they confirmed that the sleep/wake function does not work on this case. They did mention that they are in the process of making a new cover that will work and will ship it out free automatically to anyone who ordered the case from them. I'm still going to return mine, though. Between the sleep/wake function not working right away and the sub-par screen protector I'd rather just use something else.

Had such high hopes for this case! Would the screen protector still look ok with the iPad2 or it truly that bad?

Any other otterbox offerings worthwhile? Looking for a case with drop protection/screen protection that can put up with kids and be protective enough to be thrown in my bag for the day.

Returning Defender Case

I am returning the case, I do not like the screen protector. True you can remove the screen protector and apply something better,or use the screen with nothing on it,but why? I do not feel I should have to make mods on the case.

Before I ordered I spoke with Otter Box specifically about the screen protector. I had concerns that the screen protector might degrade the screen clarity, Otter Box stated that you wouldn't even know it was on. from my perspective you do know its there and it does affect screen clarity. I also have concerns that in time the protector will become scratched and marred, further detracting from the screen, at which point you will need to either remove it or replace it. For now I feel returning the case makes more sense, perhaps there will be a v2 which will address the screen protector and other issues that are being mentioned and I will reconsider.

Forgive my typos, still trying to master the dictation function on Ipad :)

I feel the same way and I'm returning mine as well.

That is a defect. I went through 2 2nd-generation defenders and one did bow out like that around the perimeter. On the first one, the plastic clip that holds the front cover snapped off.

----------

You're not going to find a more protective case than the new ipad case that just came out, especially with the cover that now protects the entire bezel.

Yes, the home button is really difficult to press but I'm going to stick some paper under there as somebody else suggested.

The built in screen protector is absolute ****. I didn't even attempt to install the case with that thing on. ..and don't be a ***** and return it because of the built in plastic screen protector. Just punch it out and rub some nail polish remover to get rid of the glue.

----------

Yes.

Does the iPad 2 defender case have an inbuilt screen protector?

No, no ipad defenders ever had the screen protector built in.

Just curious if you could elaborate as to what it was about the lifeproof case, that make you feel that way?

Just look at the lifeproof threads on here. It's a piece of garbage.
