Like the other poster stated the switch is covered with a rubber flap. The middle part is the connector for the case, and the prox sensor is in the same spot on the black phone, just not as visible as it is on the white. Hope this helps:)

Plus that is the concept picture. The ones on the website now have a hole for the proximity sensor and such

I work in an office so I don't need the protection of the defender but I do like that it has the belt clip I wish the commuter had a clip. When some of you who have ordered receive the defender let us know what you think. It looks like the new defender may not be as bulky as the previous defender. At the very least I think it defiantly looks better.

I was interested in these before I got my phone and I still am, but I think I'm going to wait for Otterbox to release the Commuter series in a few colours (please green or orange!) before ordering another. I've got my Incipio NGP until then.

I was used to my big leather Sena case on my 3GS and I figured I wouldn't mind the bulk, now I realised how much I missed the thinner form factor.

Thanks mate:D

case is way too big for me, but I wonder if it causes the camera flash issue.

Some of you come in here to post how ugly the case is and that you wouldn't use it... Seriously? It's not meant for you. This case is made for people who work and use the iPhone in places where it can be severely damaged very easily and it does a great job at that. It's not meant to be pretty. Although for what it does it really does not look bad at all.

Looks like your phone would survive a tornado with this case on but boy it's sure ugly...

How does the membrane work? Does it stick to the screen like a screen protector, or sit just above it? I can't see how you would not get bubbles or other distortions with that type of protector.

I'm curious to know this too. I saw a dude with an iPhone 3G defender and after 2 years his "screen protector" looked like it had been beat to hell, but he was still able to use the phone just fine.

I'm still holding out for the Commuter version. I'd like to see it in more detail. I don't work in construction and I'm not a weekend warrior - so this might be overkill for me.

Right now I have a Speck Pixelskin on my phone - it actually seems perfectly fine aside from the dust collection. Its my stopgap until I can see the commuter.

Probably a good thing the website kept pooching my order, in retrospect.

Yah. Website kept pooching my order so it gave me enough time to pause. I'm going to wait for the commuter.

Unless you work in construction or something...

Why the HELL would you need that? That is mega-fugg

The baby powder trick worked to perfection for two years with my 3G in the Defender. I took it out just last week and gave it to my wife when I got my iPhone 4. The 3G looked brand new.

My phone is transferred around a number of different environments, hockey bag, car, office, backpack and the fact that I am just a clutz. The Otterbox stands up to the challenge.

For me, it's piece of mind. It looks as if they have solved the holster issue by incorporating a side clip. This will also help users who like to see the screen while they have it in the holster and synced with your Mac.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Had this case with my 3g, for the past 2 years I've dropped the iphone countless times, kids spilled there drinks on it, even the dog used it as a chew toy. I just recently opened the case and the 3g came out like it was brand new, not a scratch on it. So based on my experience I'll give this another shot.

Sorry...

Meant to say "to each his own"

I did not mean for it to appear that I was knocking anyone for buying/using the case.

That beast is definitely not for me though

I used this case on my 3g, and as has been said. phone is in mint condition. Not sure if I want the bulk again, and I DO want something that slides in/out of pockets a little easier. On the fence this time.

It's a great case and the best for protection, the only thing I don't like is the rubber stretching over time at the back (no I did not take it on and off) which causes seperation from the plastic portion of the case. It has happened to two 3GS cases I have had.
