It will not fit.

The older att cases WILL NOT fit the new 4s. I bought a defender case when they first came out last year for my new ip4 att. I tried putting my 4s in there and the mute switch is hitting a tab and preventing me from seating it properly.

Alot of these people saying it works most likely have the newer universal cases. Also, otterbox was not lying about their statement, I wish they would have been more clear on it though.

$18 universal defender from Amazon.

So far, fits perfect and most importantly, the pictures look fine. No difference as far as I could tell between on or off and with flash and without flash. Granted, that was sitting at the desk in my office and not a real world test, but I'd say I'm pretty pleased. Will update tomorrow after I play golf and take a few real world pics.

$30 heavier in the wallet and quite pleased.

I bought the 16 dollar one and it fits perfect. I ordered it monday lol

One thing that I don't recall seeing mentioned in this thread is that many people reported having problems with the silicone "stretching" on the Otterbox Defender 4 cases. It was not a problem with the 3G cases.

The 4S cases were redesigned to address the issue.

An ATT store rep and I confirmed that the new cases have been changed by comparing the two models. The parts of the case that tended to develop the problem seem less likely to stretch and the design changes are obvious when viewing the cases side-by-side.

Just got my brand new iPhone 4S 32GB in white and I promptly put it in my Otterbox Commuter case. It fits perfectly. The mute switch isn't covered, the volume buttons line up, nothing is blocked and it's not loose at all. I haven't set it up yet so I haven't tried taking photos to see if the smaller camera hole causes any issues, but I suspect it's good to go. Only set me back $20 from Amazon instead of $35 from Otterbox. And it's pretty... haha. I got the pink and white one.

I can also confirm the old Otterbox Commuter works just fine on the 4s. Pics below...sorry about the quality. Taken with a 3GS :p

How's the camera with the smaller cutout hole? Any dimness from the flash?

I went to an ATT store yesterday and all cases currently have a "buy two and get a third free" offer.

The deal includes cases for iPhones other than the 4S as well as the new Otterbox cases.

It was funny... I tried to get the store to match the online price. But we couldn't find the 25% Web page. It wasn't clear whether or not the store would be able to match the online price since ATT sales associates are limited regarding what the store computers will allow them to do price-wise.

Where did u see this I went to my att store to place order for 2 new commutter cases for ip4s and they never mentioned third one free ?

I didn't see a sign nor did I know about the offer before I visited the store. The ATT rep told me about it.

Since you ordered the cases perhaps the offer did not apply; I purchased stock that was in the store.

If I was in your shoes I would call the store and ask...

Just bought the 4s commuter case. The lady at the sprint store told me the problem with the original iphone 4 case was the camera, the cut out was too tight and caused problems with apples new lens or something(related to lighting or something).

Either way I got it for $30 with a warranty and my iphone is safe :)

I was meaning to test that out before I put the case on. I suppose I could take it off and see if it really makes a difference.

If you read my previous post, I clearly stated I bought the iPhone 4s commuter case at the sprint store. They also sell the iPhone 4s defender case.

I got my 16gb White 4s today via UPS and went right over to Walmart and purchased a Hot Pink on White Defender Case... ( in which the 2 young men working in Electronics informed me, that the the Defender case for the 4 won't fit the 4s ) However, I purchased it and put it on my phone right there in the store. It fits perfectly. Everything lines up, nothing is covered. Yes the 4s Defender is slightly re-designed, but the 4 Defender fits just fine and it's cheaper as well. I have taken pictures with and without flash and there have been no problems whatsoever. Everything functions as it should. Just wanted to put that out there so it's affirmed. :D

The reason people should care if the iphone 4 case works is if they already have one and don't want to shell out any extra cash then its good.

however, if you are shopping for a case, then you have nothing to lose buying the right one for your phone since both the iphone 4 and iphone 4s cases cost the same $34.99 at major retailers.(this is for the commuter)

Also Otterbox isn't selling cases to people who already own iphone 4 cases you know, they are selling thousands to new customers who signed up for sprint,at&t and verizon who never owned an iphone and the demand for the cases at this point is very high. Also keep in mind there are people like me who like to have the case on their phone immediately after purchasing it instead of waiting for it to come in the mail. :D

I have a Sprint iphone 4s as well. Was the Commuter case normally $30 at the Sprint store or did you get some discount? Because even with the coupon code, the Commuter case is $33 directly from Otterbox and there's a backlog for shipment.

The old commuter is half the price on amazon. They also didn't have the color I wanted in the 4S commuter model.

Great info here thanks. I just received my Verizon 4s yesterday. I would like to get a Defender or Commuter Ipod 4 case to protect it. From the info here it seems like the case will work fine for the 4s.

Before placing my order I just want to make sure that the Universal Iphone 4 Defender case on Amazon will work fine for the Verizon Iphone 4s. I believe it does, but would like confirmation.

Also will the AT&T version Iphone 4 Defender version work with a Verizon 4s? I don't think it will but the color and price on Amazon are to my liking so I just want to check.

Thx.

I have a 32gb iPhone 4s and put it in my otterbox defender. There was a piece of plastic in the way of the vibrate/ring switch so I got a needle nose pliers and clipped it out. The case works fine now. The rubber "gromet" stays in fine also.

Have you checked the phone at all after putting it in the case? Has the chrome bezel or any other part of the phone been scratched by the case at all? Thanks

The otterbox fits great.

I somewhat in the back of my mind wanted to believe otterbox was telling the truth but they lied and badly.

The proximity sensor in the front is centered perfectly with plenty of space on all sides. The front camera and speaker are centered perfectly as well with space.

On the back, the cutout for the camera sits on top of the crome bezel. Compare with this picture for example. In that picture you can see the chrome. On the 4S the cutout comes just up to the crome so it's not completely visible.

It does not go past the chrome, nor interfere at all with picture taking at all.

The volume buttons work fine. The top mic lines up fine.

The vibrate switch is not centered. It's towards the bottom, but does not touch. Functions as it should.

I only have my iP4S with me now as I'm at work. I'll see if I can use someones phone to take to pics to show. If not I will when I get home, but again this fits and works fine.
