We're getting close to the sequal to the Outer Worlds and I'm seeing some positive vibes from the previews
Trailer:

I played The Outer Worlds 2 preview four times — here’s what I learned about its branching gameplay

If you're thinking to yourself, "I wasn't a big fan of the first game, I wonder if the second will win me over," though, then I still suggest some caution. Obsidian is sticking to its guns with The Outer Worlds 2 — I argue for the better, but certain RPG fans will claim it's for the worse.

So it sounds like if you didn't like Outer Worlds 1, you may not love this new iteration. To me, it tells me that Obsidian is leaning into what they do best, and I'm excited because it was a really fun game. OU didn't have the same level of replayability as fallout 4, but it does have it. What Outer Worlds gives up in open worlds they gain back in story telling.

I may fire it up again given that that OU2 is due out later this year.

Edit: October 29 is the release date - woohoo

As I remember, the original was skosh on social relationships although I’m a bit foggy on it.
There is no relationships with the player and NPCs. you can have companions, just not romance them - there is a quest to help another companion find love but I don't think that's what you mean

Exactly - but interestingly aside from V & Judy and BG3, this is my favorite romance in a game in the last several years!

As for The Outer Worlds - love the original, played on PC, then on the Switch with DLCs (OK if you have no other choice) and then the Steam Deck for the full Spacer's Choice edition. Absolutely top 10 RPG of the last several years for me (but not top 5) ... so I will absolutely be there on Day One for the sequel.

I'm hoping for a discount through GreenManGaming otherwise I'll just buy direct on Steam for my Steam Deck. Definitely excited for this one - loved the original.

Exactly same! I won't preorder because there is no incentive ... but hopefully GreenManGaming has a deal as they often do right at release (but didn't with Avowed so I paid full price which I didn't like!)
I started being cheap and waiting for the GoG version of games to come out. I was able to due this for BG3 and TOW1. That and being able run locally without copy protection crap.

I originally went through that mostly in rifleman/sniper mode.

Lots of time speccing a lockpicking build. It took me a while to figure out what to do with the perks. You can read way too many posts about ideal builds for supporting your companions, then respec, etc.

The same thing chasing gear.

I think I hardly every played with the robot.

Question for those who remember:

Was the preorder stuff still available if you used GoG instead? I can't remember but think I got some stuff even though it was much later access on GoG, and I always do the sign up for the expansions packs at release time.

I am noticing the preorder/digital premium edition details, here.

OTOH, it is so funny because the stuff is usually not relevant once you get 3-5 levels.

For OW1, the most brutal 2 battles I can remember were:

A companion quest, Nyoka on Monarch getting her old teams medallions and killing the Mantiqueen.

Peril on Gorgon. Deep in a cave complex, which had railroad tracks in places, I think it started with a tracked descent. Fighting some monster/queen I can't remember. Not quest related.

Not really a shock. I wonder if they will exceed the level of the predecessor.
i think Avowed didn't perform to the level that everyone had expected, so there was concern about OW2. I wasn't terribly worried, mostly because I didn't really follow or play Avowed.

I have nowhere near the time to play a fraction of the stuff I have from GoG sales.

The last thing I started, but didn't finish was Underrail, being described as a Fallout1 sort of game. Its a definitely interesting game.

Happy to hear from a few sources (Mortismal, SteamDeckHQ) that the game plays about as well on Steam Deck as Avowed, which I found totally playable and enjoyable. That means I will absolutely be playing it on day one of 'normal' release (no interest in paying to play early).

Avowed is an interesting case - Microsoft was supposedly satisfied with sales, but it is all cloudy due to GamePass. So not sure how well it actually did in terms of profitability, as Obsidian tends to run lean.

Only true negative I have heard so far is there is no companion that matches Pavarti in terms of being a complex and interesting character.
