If you want to go outside and play football then great. Go get some exercise. But sitting on the couch and watching other people play a game? Waste of time.
See, I'm a watcher not a player. But when we go to a match we walk down to the pub, have a few drinks, then walk to the ground. Then after it's finished we walk to get the bus home. So you see, it's a quite fantastic form of exercise, plus you get to enjoy a sporting spectacle and drink beer too. :)

Personally, I think the most overrated things in the world are cats.

Jaffa Cakes are overrated!

I keed. Those things are absolutely delicious.

As somebody mentioned before... the NBA. Can't stand it. I'll watch highlights that's about it.

Oh and golf too, wow I hit the ball now let me drive over to where it landed and hit it again.

Ah, well I can't argue with that!

I barely recognized you, Jaffa, without your regular avatar.

No. You may not like their music, but they changed the industry forever, so you can't deny their influence.

To me, someone is overrated when they basically are just "lucky" to be famous.

To me, someone is overrated when they are considered better (at whatever they do) than they are. That would be the Beatles. Influence is a totally different question.

Also, notice that you don't have to be "bad" to be "overrated." You can be excellent - just not as good as people think you are.

You take that back about the Beatles.

Things that I find overrated:
"Stairway to Heaven"
Johny Depp (sp?)
Bill Clinton
Football (US)

 You take those back! And do it now!

Seinfeld. I sometimes think I'm the only one in the world who can't stand that show

*ducks out of the way of thrown objects flying towards me*

/throws as many objects as he can find near at hand
/goes to look for more objects to throw

I'll add a couple that will surely throw some fuel on the fire :):
- Ronald Reagan
- JFK
- Barack Obama (common theme?)
- Derek Jeter
- Eli Manning (he still sucks. no, really.)
- Quentin Tarantino
- Citizen Kane (it's been said, but it's a really good one)
- American Idol

How sad for you.

:(

Star Wars IS way overrated.

What I mean is, if you look at as just another movie series, it's not overrated. But, in general, the cheesy FX, the even cheesier acting, and the character development thinner than the plot of a Steven Segal movie is overrated.

No offense, of course.

I agree with myself, Star Wars was definitely over-rated. ;) I hate Star Trek, but I don't think it's over-rated. I can understand why the geeky types would enjoy it. With Star Wars......it's just boring.

Also over-rated......The Simpsons.

Soccer (excuse me...football) - He's got the ball! He's moving across the midline! He's almost to the penalty area! Oh..he lost the ball. (repeat again, and again, and again until...) He shoots! Way over the net. Goal kick. Then go back to the beginning. I'm sorry, but when you can count the number of SHOTS on one hand, the sport sucks. IMO, the only thing this sport was good for was that the Canadians saw it, made several improvements, and invented hockey.

I love hockey, but football is definitely not overrated. It's a beautiful game.

Now American football is an over-rated sport. Golf is, too. I would also throw in baseball, but seeing as attendance is already down and the interest isn't there anymore, I guess people have already figured that out.

I love the Star Wars movies, and they were certainly influential in advancing CGI/special effects [the original trilogy, at least], but from a pure story/dialogue/acting point of view, they really are pants.

The Rolling Stones
Hilary Clinton
megapixels
Blu-ray disks
Halo games
NBA

Hollywood
Las Vegas
American Idol
Presidential elections and all involved
Professional sports
Microsoft products

My pick:

The silence of the lambs
Steven Spielberg
Tim Burton
The Beatles
Nicole Kidman
Uma Thurman...

So, so many to list.....

Let's start with golf. I'm sorry, Southern males, but what is so entertaining about hitting a teeny ball into a hole eighteen times to see who wins?:p

It's like taking hockey, getting rid of the opposing players, sticks, nets, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, and ice.

  • Coffee
  • Harry Potter V
  • Harry Potter VI
  • Harry Potter VII
  • Switzerland
  • Hammond Organs
  • Arnie Films
  • Books by Stephen Hawking (much as he's great and all)
  • Beach Holidays
  • JFK
  • Homeopathy
  • The United States of America
  • Swimming with Dolphins
  • Jonathon Ross
  • French Cuisine
  • The 1980s

I quite enjoyed doing that :D

I would add the UK, but it's not really rated.

Can we please keep the political comments for the Politics, Religion, Social Issues forum.

.) Hip Hop/Rap music (videos)

I always imagine the creators of these hip hop videos to be extremely creative: "Hey I have an idea, let's do something with girls in bikinis!" – "Hm, no we did that last time..." – "Ok then let's do something with girls in hotpants!" – "Yeah, brilliant idea!" :D

.) Harry Potter, all of it

I never liked child heroes in movies/books. I didn't even like them when I was a child.

.) Hollydays

Don't ask me why.

THANK YOU!! tits and ass aren't talent!! nice to look at but really....
and she is tone deaf to boot! daddy's girl who was never told no or taught humility.

I don't think she can be overrated because I don't think anyone thinks she's talented to begin with.

Also over-rated......The Simpsons.

Soccer is fun to play, but about as much fun to watch as paint drying. American football and baseball are great games.

All in all, your post convinces me that you're just plain nuts. :p ;)

All Rap is overrated
The music is stupid.

I disagree....you are only looking at that commercial rap and generalizing....there are good hip hop/rap groups out there.

Over-rated:
Starbucks
Wii
Halo series
The Departed
Jake Gellenghall(sp)
Dr. Phill
American Idol and Ryan Seacrest....as a matter of fact all reality dancing, singing contest show.

Bless

I actually agree with you on that one. I live in Vegas and I find no amusement to in strip as much as any one else would think. On the other hand, I'm not 21 yet, so... Vegas itself is a great place to live, though.

anyway, to add to the list:

Reality "celebrities";
Soccer (or football as the foreigners call it); and
The Saw movies.
