So, so many to list.....

Let's start with golf. I'm sorry, Southern males, but what is so entertaining about hitting a teeny ball into a hole eighteen times to see who wins?:p

It's like taking hockey, getting rid of the opposing players, sticks, nets, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, and ice.

Oh man, I so disagree. I've played golf for 7 or 8 years, since before I was a teenager. It is probably the most addicting sport I've ever played (I played soccer and baseball as well). There is nothing more frusterating than trying to hit that damn ball straight and get it in the hole, which is 500 yards away, in 4 or 5 shots or less. I've spent almost half of my life playing, 4 of those years playing 4 times a week and practing the other 3, and I never shot better than 1 under par, it so damn difficult. There are plenty of opposing players when you play competitive golf or when you've got $20 a hole on the line. I'm not even going address the physical activity part, there is far more in golf than most people think, thats why the best golfers resistance train and work out often. I usually come home as tired from 18 holes of golf as I do from 6 innings of baseball. Not to mention the incredible mental aspects of the game and what it takes to win a tournament, even in junior golf.

My over-rated:
BMWs
Lexus
Becoming an attorney
South Park
Angelina Jolie
Football
The Yankees
Wine
Hollywood, Ca
Los Angeles, Ca
California
Hybrid Cars
JFK

If by that you mean "it's not happening," or "it's not a big problem," then I don't think that's really "overrated." If you mean that people like it too much... then I'm just confused.

No I'm not saying people like it too much, I should've put 'Global Warming Hype'.

Movies: Transformers, Transformers, Transformers, and Transformers. It is an abomination.
 Excuse me????

Sir, you need help, and soon.

I think Jessica Alba is over rated.
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
NO SHE ISN'T!!!

Star Wars IS way overrated.

What I mean is, if you look at as just another movie series, it's not overrated. But, in general, the cheesy FX, the even cheesier acting, and the character development thinner than the plot of a Steven Segal movie is overrated.

No offense, of course.
totally agree with you on this.

as for me, i think that all things that have to do with microsoft are overrated, i also would love to kill Justin Timberlake. I also have a strong hate for american idol. and what is with people and U2?????
school is overrated as well....

And yes, couldn't agree more on Star Wars and U2 -- good calls!
Oh man, and golf. Yeah, completely overrated (just like "ultimate frisbee", skydiving, bungee jumping and other silliness)

Um...it's a homage to the Flash Gordon serials. It's supposed to be cheesy. Granted, I'm going to be biased because I'm part of the Star Wars Generation, so....

And to those who say (American) football is overrated...blasphemy! It's much more than a violent game. Underneath all the hitting, pushing, and shoving is one of the most mentally complicated games you'll find. It's more like full contact chess than anything else...just ask anyone who played on the offensive line.

Now the NFL combine...THAT'S overrated. Let's make a national broadcast of former college players doing windsprints

SUVs, in general, have their place.

Hybrid car, in general, have their place (and are a noble endeavour)

Hybrid SUVs, however, are overrated.

All Rap is overrated

The music is stupid.

"To the window.... to the wall" or "lean back lean back" or "shake it like a saltsaker" they say the stupidest things over and over again, and yeah people may like it but it's not going to change the music industry

You clearly know nothing about hip-hop/rap. What is played mainstream, is a very small portion of the genre.

None the less, this whole thread is based on opinion. What one person think is overrated, is the best thing in the world to the next person. Of course, I have an opinion on what is overrated, but most things have been said.

I'm with you there. Take the same 3-4 electronic beats and mix them up, two or at best three chords, and some inane lyrics and you have your average rap song.
Hey, its the same with punk music, just take three chords and 10 lines of lyrics and you've got a Ramones song, are you gonna argue they're overrated?

There is an awful lot of crap-rap, but nowhere near as much as there is crap-bubblegum pop.

Anyways, I think oysters and caviar are over-rated.
Pixelmator is over-rated.
FIFA Games.
Reflexology.
Nike.
Champagne.
Grapes.
Vitamin tablets.
KT Tunstall.

I think only Australian's might understand a couple of mine

Kevin Rudd
Anna Bligh
Ron Clarke
Alcohol
Tattoos
Brad Pitt
Angelina Jolie
Shows like the Ghost Whisperer, Las Vegas, Desperate Housewives, Dirty Sexy Money and many others that my mum watches that I can't think of

Kansas Jayhawks
UCLA Bruins
Memphis Tigers
The Yankees
The new Camaro
The new Mustang
Any female pop star with more number one hits than Elvis

Among many other things listed...
Bose
Lifted Trucks where the bottom of the frame is higher than 4' off the ground.

In no particular order:

Religion
England
Exams
RSS
iPhone/iPod touch Jailbreaking
PSP
Gran Turismo Games
Metal Gear Solid Games
Street Fighter Games
Elvis
Babies
Advertising
Optical Media
Jam
Dr. Pepper
Alcohol
Smoking
Eyewitness Testimony
Children's TV (It was much better when I was a child)

I was interested in reading people's thoughts on this topic, but this thread seems to have lost it's focus- it seems to be more about listing things people hate as opposed to things that people think are overrated.

It's about: I think Pinkberry is very good, I like it. It's a very good and healthy snack. However, I don't think it's as good as people say it is. It's not as good as the hype. Therefore, Pinkberry is overrated.

It's not about: I hate raw tomatoes. They taste disgusting. Ewww. Why do people like them? Therefore, tomatoes are overrated.

It's about: "It's good, but it's not great." That's what overrated means.

Just sayin'.....

I see what you mean, but things that people hate can also be overrated if everyone else around them seems to love it, since technically the people who love it think it is rated better than what the people who hate it feel it actually is.
