Really? Point for point? If it is, why do they even bother making S-IPS displays then??

Because 8-bit panels make for nicer gradations across the screen. But the final product will have the same color saturation and brightness, regardless of display technology, provided said display is properly calibrated. Glossy displays are far more difficult for the colorimeters to measure, thus the desire and need for matte.

This picture was taken with the screen on max brightness and in normal lighting. Are you trying to endorse this is normal and suitable for a $1700 notebook?

Definitely a peace of junk up there. :p

I will be going to the Apple store soon to check these out in person.

Well, I just went to see the new MBP and MB today and honestly, I'm surprise at how much the glare is not affecting the usage. Most people kept nagging that the they can't work properly with all the glare, reflection and etc. but let me tell you, its not as bad as other notebooks. In fact, I played tilting the screen to a variety of angle to see which angle will make it unusable and I realize that you can use the notebook at almost any angle. Of course they will be some angle where you can't use the screen cause of the glare but most of us won't even be using the notebook at such an extreme angle.

So for those who kept saying glossy is bad, I won't buy another Apple notebook and etc. Open up your closed mind, be optimistic and try it out yourself.

Oh yeah, and Chiclet Keys DON'T suck.
In fact, being optimistic, turn down the brightness to 0 and you get yourself a portable mirror with you :p

The new macbook pros are UGLY

The good part is that Apple may have made an ugly book, but at least they gave us a strong case and easily replaceable HDD and battery. I would have liked it if Apple gave us eSATA and/or kept the case the same size so they could add something else in the future instead of making it thinner.

As for the glossy laptop screen..... meh. I done take anything I tone on my MBP seriously. I wait for the cinema to do that stuff. Other than that I do light adjustments on the book and let the ICC profiles handle the rest. It's almost like autofocus. Once you have a camera that you can trust to get the focus dead on, you don't have to worry about too much outside of setting up the camera and the shot.

My Epson uses a certain ICC profile (the default one for the paper I am printing on) and I adjust my color in PS (via the ACD) for that profile and BAM! Color is spot on.

For the paper, It's all done via the numeric values and the print house handles the rest. It still escapes me how anyone could get inaccurate color on todays machines.

Geez, Im getting tired of this thread derailing.

Well I don't believe you that anything will change.

And that says nothing about them stealing codes.

I'm not tired of this yet.
I don't care if you believe me or not cause I have given you proof of what I just said, and have you build your own hackintosh before? You need this guy code to make it work. And what kind of answer you expect? To see lines of Psycrap program against Netkas? (Which I say, its impossible for me to get)

Ugh, well yeah, the image taken with camera will be like that cause its glossy, but that has nothing to do with a $1700 notebook, you expect a glossy notebook that don't reflect or something (well if Apple can do this, that will be great, unlikely).
But then, eventhough your picture shows how bad the reflection is, real life usage, the reflection is not as bad as the picture. Take note that camera can sometimes take things that our eye won't realize especially in this case, reflection. And having seen a lot of images of products online, I learn you must also see it in person cause they are cases (well not in Apple) where the product image posted online make the product look ugly and fugly, but when you see it in person, its really nice.

Well this is a matter of opinion, so I got nothing to say about it. Anyway this thread is not about commenting MBP looks...;)

This is my white MacBook's display. No reflection at all, are you seriously trying to say that the new one I posted a couple posts above is justly priced at $1700?

Hmm, its hard to see with having a picture of your $1700 mac in it, anyway the new glass being glossy and reflective has nothing to do with the price, cause its the material. What stuffs do you expect to justify the $1700? Non-reflective glossy display (does that even exist?)?

I get you, hence the reason I will be keeping my Penryn MBP for years to come. But anyone could just take a photo in a way that decreases reflection and say the opposite.

I don't think the glossy screens are as bad as people say, but it's a pain that there is no longer a choice in the PRO side. Simply because there should be a choice, not an excuse. I can tone images on a screen turned negative with dead pixels, I was trained in college to do so, but I'd still like the choice.

One that doesn't reflect as much? The material is only a portion of the problem, the MacBook Pro has better screen, while the GlassBook's looks horrible. Apple seems to have forgotten that we are paying premium for their products, and expect it in result. And for the record, that picture of the 2.4GHz Mac was from NoteBookreview.com, I can photograph my brother's if you deem it necessary.

True, its a pain that the is no matte on the pro side.

Yeah, the MBP has always and will always have better screen then the MacBook, in fact, if you compare the previous gen MB and MBP, the screen quality on the MBP is also much superior then the MB, compare that to the previous gens, its still the same. And you don't need to take a picture of your bro.

Ok people, seriously. I had doubts also. I was waiting for the MBP to update since mid-August and was all ready to buy one once they came out. Once I saw that they were glossy, I put it off ordering it for a week driving everyone crazy debating if I should get the new or old MBP just because of the glossy screen. I saw a posting (really wish I could find it again to link) where someone had the Power Support antiglare film on their laptop and I was convinced that if I hated the glossy, or it gave me headaches and eyestrain (like the old CRT’s) I could put a film on.

I’ve had my new MBP for over a week now and I haven’t had any real issues with it. Yes, I notice a reflection BUT only if I’m working with dark colors on the screen. If you use the original desktop display, the reflection is very noticeable because it's a dark picture. Have a lighter background, no problem!

I actually find myself liking (I can’t believe I’m admitting this) the new glossy screen.

I’m not saying they’re for everyone, and I did complain to Apple that they took away the matte option, which I do agree that they should offer on at least the MBP. If you hate glossy, then stop complaining to us, call Apple and tell them with you dollar’s (the only way to got things done in corporate America) that you want the matte screen.

For fence sitters, I say dive in! I really hated the idea of glossy but now I love love love my new MBP. :p

And for the record, I’m a graphic design student, so yes, I do use it for editing, printing etc. My only comment is that if you’re using a Mac laptop professionally, plug it into an external monitor before sending to the printers or for serious editing - you know better than using just you laptop screen for that stuff, so stop complaining and be a professional.

Glad that people who love/don't mind the glossy screen is speaking out ;)
