Bought 2 SSD's, 8GB or RAM, a RAID case, and 2 external HDD case from OWC. Never had any problem.

To me thy are as golden as Newegg.

Hi.

I'm following this thread because I have OCZ SandForce powered drive (Vertex 2) that has similar problems with hibernation (all SandForce based drives with firmware revisions 1.24 and up [i don't know how this translates to OWC versioning] have this problem). Just wanted to inform you that SandForce just released 1.29 firmware. I'm waiting for change-log before updating but lets all hope fix for our problems is on the way.

(I don't know when this firmware update will be available from OWC but probably soon ;) )

Fw 310

Received the SSD back from OWC today. Same box I shipped it in. FW 310 was installed. As a test, I left data on the drive. It was wiped when I got it back.

It's installed in the optibay on OWC's data doubler. For the record, there is no need to unplug the antenna cable on a 2010 MBP 15". There is plenty of room in the cable to install the bracket while leaving the cable plugged in.

I still have sleep options set from the FW343

Will report if FW 310 is better.

Now that there is a Sandforce release, I wonder how OWC will handle it. I can no longer find the downloads page that used to contain only 343.

343 Page

Thanks, Weasel. I hunted and hunted and couldn't find the Download Page.

I have 24 hours on FW 310 with no problems. I still have all the pmset settings from FW343. Interestingly, I got an email from OWC the day after my SSD arrived with this message:

Your OWC Mercury Extreme Pro SSD is shipping back w/ firmware version 310 installed, which is currently the latest version.

I asked if this means they have stopped shipping 343 - will let you know reply.

Update 2/18: There has been no reply from OWC.

This thread really has nothing to do with Vista and Botcamp. If you do a forum search you'll find plenty of discussion about it. In a nutshell, the Bootcamp drivers should provide the wireless drivers you need. I can't help you further. I neither use Vista nor Bootcamp.

Again, a forum search should help you sort that out.

Wireless Adapter Disappears

HOWEVER, if you have recently installed an OWC SSD with FW 343, I had exactly the same problem....the wireless connection would drop and the pulldown would show no wireless card installed.

If this is the case, remove the SSD and have it downgraded to FW 310 on an RMA. I have not had the problem since the downgrade.

I ordered my OWC 120GB SSD on sunday. Hopefully the one I get doesn't have the 343 firmware.

Are the Terminal fixes that were listed in post #106 likely to fix any issues should they arise?

This makes absolutely no sense. Firmware affects the SSD itself...not anything else.

Hi folks,
I am about the receive a OWV 120GB SSD with a Data Doubler, hopefully with FW310, and had a few questions that I'm sure have been answered somewhere in this thread. However, I'm hoping that someone can consolidate the answers here, as there are differences of opinion spread through the many, many pages.

1) Should I place the SSD in the Hard Drive bay, or leave the stock HD where it is, and install the SSD in Data Doubler? I have heard of sleep problems with the SSD in the DD, but know that the shock protection is only in the HD bay, so would like to know the best course of action here.

2) How should I install the OS? A fresh reinstall, or should I do a clone (minus aperture library and other large files) with CCC? I've had some permissions and other issues using CCC before, but am not looking forward to a full reinstall.

3) What do I need to do about sleep states? Are the steps laid out in Post#106 only if you're having problems, or should we do that regardless?

Thanks,

Latest from OWC Customer Support (I asked if they were still shipping 343 and when we could expect an update):

Firmware version 310 is not the latest and our drives are not shipping w/ 310 installed, version 343A13f0 is the latest. We are currently working on an update, which should be ready w/ in 1-2 months.

Differences in opinion will remain, but here's my advice:

For the Data Doubler, I found no difference installing the SSD in the main or Opti bay. I recommend leaving the HD alone and mounting the SSD in the Opti bay. Problems are not dependent on position and it's fewer screws/connections to contend with.

I used CCC to clone the HD to the SSD in an external dock. Installed it, then changed the Startup Disk to the SSD. CCC clone could also be done after install.

Sleep state recommendations may help, but it didn't help me. Only a downgrade to FW 310 helped me. Since the downgrade, sleep state settings are not a factor (I have not tested Hibernate, though).

And I agree that SSD FW impacting the Airport wireless adapter "makes no sense", but it happened....several times. And I did plenty of installing/un-installing to verify the SSD as the cause because I couldn't believe it, either. That was the event that put it back in the box for a downgrade. Perhaps the recent network list or other settings were stored on the SSD and could not be properly retrieved. Don't know, but it works with FW 310.

The good thing about setting the hibernatemode to 0 is you save your ram size off your ssd.

My SSD should get to me early next week.

I'll let you guys know what firmware i have, and whether i had any issues after applying those terminal commands listed previously.

New MPB also has the issue

Yes, I have the brand new MBP (15") and put the 240GB SSD in it and I do have the wake up from sleep issue. So I had to turn of sleeping. It only shows the problem if you let the machine go to sleep. If I close the lid, it's fine.

Currently have 2 200gb OWC Extreme Pros running Raid 0 in my current 2010 I7 core machine. Will be moving these over next week when my 2011 shows up. I have no issues with sleep or anything else runs great. These are excellent SSD drives and extremely fast.

I'm thinking about investing in OWC for a while now... But I guess this makes the Vertex 3 look more attractive. I hope OWC gets their rears in gear and pump out a new firmware soon or at least upgrade the Mercury Pro line with the new SandForce controllers.

BTW if you are using a combination of spinning drive and SSD drives than always put your spinner in the original spot. That is where the motion sensor is and you will want your spinning drive there. Put OS on SSD and you may want to put all your music to save space on your spinner and actually when I used a spinner with SSD i partitioned in 3 . One was for a OS backup so you only need a 100gb for that. This way no matter where you go you always have a OS backup just in case the SSD craps out very rare but your always covered that way and for very important data say on a photo shoot you can back up your files to desktop and spinner and than off load them to externals when you get home. I am a working Pro photographer and this is a very nice setup for folks like me. I have two drives with same data, if one craps out I have a backup.
