It doesn't help the fact that Loftin was called out by another **** call by the umps. I think they need guide dogs.

Yeah, even as I Red Sox fan I can admit they blew that call. But also, a silly decision by their third base coach to hold Lofton while the ball was rolling around shallow left field.

yeah I have to agree.

Boston was sort of cute and cuddly when they hadn't won since..I don't know what was it..Teddy Roosevelt was in the oval office?

But now that they've won another, it's rather difficult to embrace a team whose only virtue to a non-fan is that their payroll is $46 million less than that of the Yankees.

They're still handing out $143 million, which is roughly $28 million than the Mets who are the next closest team and more than double the Indians' $62 million payroll.

Here's an idea, take the red sox roster and build the best one you can with $62 million (Indians' payroll) and see how they do.

Let's see we could have

Need someone to catch our pitchers so Varitek for $11 million is called for, which leaves us with $51 million
Beckett is $6.7 million, leaving $44.3.
Need JD Drew for that 5 RBI night, so that $14 mil leaves us with $30.3.
Gotta have Manny, but he'll set us back a cool $17 million, leaving only $13.3 million.
Hmm we only have 1 pitcher, so we better add Schilling and his $13 millions.

Now we're down to $300k which doesn't even leave us enough to sign Papelbon for his $425K, but let's give it to em anyway.

So we have a starting rotation of Beckett and Schilling. I hope those guys can go 8 innings every other game cause all we got left in the pen is Papelbon.

The Boston Red Sox lineup is:

JD Drew
Manny Ramirez
Varitek

And...that's it.

2 starting pitchers, a closer, a left fielder, a right fielder, and your catcher.

Yeah sure I'll root for the Red Sox...

Heck just Boston's 4-man playoffs rotation of Daisuke, Schilling, Beckett, and Wakefield ($30 million for those 4) are roughly half of Cleveland's entire payroll.

Go ROCKIES!

It doesn't help the fact that Lofton was called out by another **** call by the umps. I think they need guide dogs.

The bigger question is why was Lofton held at third?WTF was the third base coach thinking? Send him.He scores it's a tie game.At worst case, you've got a guy on second with two outs..It was anybody's game until then. That double play was a killer in many ways..
If somebody would have told me before the series that both Sabathia and Carmona, two 19 game winners, wouldn't have at least one win between them in this series I would have said that you were crazy..
Indians fought hard. They'll be in the mix for the next several years..

Absolutely gutted.

I still think we have the team to do it. Maybe next year (as we Clevelanders have been saying since '48)...:(

Let's just hope the Rockies do the business, they deserve it with their run of form and the last thing I want to see is another overdog taking the World series. ;)

So now that we're moving on to the World Series, we have a little bit of a situation that needs to be figured out:

No DH when we're playing in Colorado, so Ortiz will play 1B. But we can't take Youk out of the lineup.

Here's my proposal:

Have Ortiz play 1B. Youkilis could probably slide over and play 2B, and Pedroia played SS in college and part of the time in the minors. Youk is key to the offense more than Lugo is to the defense.

If we get up by a few runs, Tito could do some defensive substitutions: take out Ortiz, and shift everyone back to their normal positions.

edit: Another option would be to bench Drew and play Youk in RF.

Or you could go: 1B Ortiz, 2B Lowell, SS Pedroia, 3B Youk

Although I could definitely see Ortiz just sitting a couple of games because of his knees and also the atmosphere/less oxygen in Denver.

There was also a long drive to center field with two on and the Indians down 5-2. A fraction of inch lower on the sweet spot and it's a tie game. Isn't baseball amazing? :D

He's dealt with this before. Youk, Ortiz, and Lowell will probably play two games each. Youk will play one at 3rd, one at 1st. Keep in mind, Youk was a 3rd baseman before last season, and his only OF experience is LF in Fenway. I don't think Lowell has ever played 2B, and I'd rather have him on the corner anyway.

Knowing Francona and his MO,I highly doubt we'll see anything out of the ordinary. Personally,I think Ortiz's knee is bothering him..Some of his at bats last night were tough to watch.Very awkward swings....

9 games in 2005 with the Marlins.

Pedroia
Ellsbury/Crisp/Lugo/Drew
Ortiz
Manny
Lowell
Drew/Varitek
Varitek
Lugo/Crisp
Pitcher

Youk off the bench subbing in for defense after using ellsbury/crisp/lugo/cora as a pinch runner for lowell/oritz late in games as needed.

So now that we're moving on to the World Series, we have a little bit of a situation that needs to be figured out:

None of those things are going to happen. One of the three (Lowell, Youk, Ortiz) will sit each game probably, and come in as a pinch hitter later in the game.

I just want to throw this out there.... this '07 Red Sox team is NOT better than the '04 team. Red Sox fans agree or disagree?

Toss up. Some of the core guys like Manny, Ortiz, Schilling, Tek are all older, but we do have the young guys like Pedroia, Jacoby, Paps.

If we compare the teams:

Starting Pitching: 04 > 07. Pedro is about equiv to Beckett, Schilling and Wake both 3 years younger.
Bullpen: not sure.. probably 07. Papelbon, Oki, Timlin have been solid.

1B: Youk > Millar
2B: Pedroia > Bellhorn
SS: Cabrera > * > Lugo
3B: Lowell better defensively than Mueller, they were pretty equal for offense.

LF: Manny being Manny :p
CF: Damon > Ellsbury/Crisp
RF: Nixon > Drew

This is going to be a good series. If Schilling comes through big again and we can get a win in game 2 (I'm hoping Beckett can continue his postseason mastery), we have a pretty good shot at winning it.

The series is going to go at least 6 games.

I say Rockies in 5. They may not get past Beckett, who has been hot as the Rockies this postseason, but I say they win the next four. ;)

it's basically can the rockies beat beckett/schilling twice.

If those 2 can go 4-0, they win. End of story.

If the Sox can steal a game with Wake or Daisuke pitching, it's all over in a hurry.

The Rockies may put up a fight, but in the end they will not prevail. The pressure is on and in that respect, the Sox have the advantage.

As for Ortiz, he'll sit out the middle games. Can't afford to lose Youk either on offense or defense.

I think the pressure is on the Sox, the Rockies are underdogs, lots of rest and are on a roll. Don't underestimate the Rockies.
Rockies in 5.

Pressure on the Sox? You've got to be kidding. The Rockies are feeling the pressure now. All their momentum died in the week off. They are the underdogs in this series.

You're signature is strange for a Yankee fan. Especially since every Yankee win has been bought.
