Package Tracking App 'Deliveries' Switching to Paid Subscription Model Across iPhone, iPad, and Mac

I get the subscription fatigue, but this is not like Fantastical pricing. The dude is asking $5 a YEAR. That‘s a very small price to pay for a quality app. You cheap chumps spend that on a daily latté.

App developers would face less blowback selling subscriptions if they were a dollar or two per year and not per month. There are very few non-streaming apps that I would consider worth $12/yr in perpetuity
Yea and it depends on the app like people said. I will pay $4/yr for Carrot for a widget and other things because it's weather, which is eternal. I don't order stuff 24/7

Not the same. Not by a long shot.

But I am super glad you found a solution that works for you. Now hopefully you can respect that your solution does not apply to the other 7 billion people on this planet.

As his solution works for the vast majority of those 7 billion people, maybe you meant to say "glad you found a solution that works for almost everybody, but doesn't work for the tiny, tiny subset to which I belong."

Sure developers need money

to be fair, developers need money... but customers need value...I get that subscriptions make it possible for developers to be paid better and more consistently, but where is the incentive to innovate? Why not just make Deliveries 2 with the new features and make everyone pay who likes the features?? Free download and pay for the features or remove ads...

I love and respect quality software but I have way too many apps to have subscriptions for all of them... Customers have to draw the line somewhere... subscription fatigue is real...

thankfully we are given the option to just use iCloud sync in this case... that’s the right way to do it. Don’t force customers into paying your rent all of a sudden without giving them the option to just use it the way they have been for many years...
Because they couldn't come up with any compelling new features that would get anyone to upgrade lol - the only new feature once you start paying for a subscription is dark mode...

maybe it’s the German in me talking but give me an option to pay for something outright and I will. All these subscriptions add up and it would start to get confusing especially since they don’t all charge you at the same time in a month. It’s like paying an iPhone in installments. I rather pay something outright and have no outstanding payments to worry about
This is why I need to remember to keep my Apple Balance topped off. Then I can just buy one card per month for enough to cover everything.

The USPS also has 'Premium Tracking', which sounds like BS, but *shrug*.

I just want to know where the package I'm waiting for is hung up, and if it did what a postal package did once, which was take a two state detour, in the opposite direction, to get to me. Hmm...

EDIT: With so many ways to track packages, why would/should I have to pay for tracking. I'm already paying for the tracking service from the shipping company. Maybe it gives notifications, but...

I just realized that I don't use the app that often so for me, I could pass on the 5 bucks a year. Like many other posts people purchased it for a specific package or delivery and then not again. So, I can see the reason some won't go that 5 dollar route.
The ? I have is does their sub let you keep it until the end if you cancel, or is it like a few of the crappy Apple ones where it dies instantly. So shady because they do that so you forget to cancel. Like I need to cancel my TV+ soon or hope that One launches before the beginning of Nov.

I too have been using this app for years and sad to see its going the subscription route. Considering most of the updates to app have been fixes due to couriers changing things, i dont think i will be supporting the app by switching to the sub. Its a good app, but not a great one. I might switch to Parcel, but ive been mostly happy with using FedEx or UPS/USPS apps anyway. Good luck JuneCloud, hope it turns out well for you.

I am a long time users of this app. I used it since the Dashboard Widget days. I've convinced many people to pay the $5 one time download fee because it's that good. That said, I wouldn't pay $5 a year for it for the rest of my life. I hate subscription software.

I wonder what features I'll be missing as a paying user (they said existing customers get tp keep most of the features).

There are people who don't want to pay rent for all gimmicks.
I also hate subscription software.

Interesting how people like Hyperipod here unlikes

almost any such critical comments. Are they telling that money is available for them in abundance?

Some people I cannot understand...

I recommend Parcel. It still cost 2.99/yr but the quality of the app and the fantastic support sure worths it. Widget support as well.
Yeah, I use Parcel. I didn’t know it had a subcription though. I just checked and it says mine never expires - I must have bought the app before they added this subscription system, so I was given a perpetual subscription. That’s the correct approach if you aks me.

Seriously, though. UPS My Choice. FedEx Delivery Manager. USPS Informed Delivery. All free, and they'll notify you when there's a package headed to your address.

And $5/year for Deliveries means that, at the VERY least, I don't have to fuss with separate accounts and apps for each of those couriers! Plus it applies a consistent UX to an otherwise fiddly and balkanized experience. Count me in!

Darn it! Deliveries is one of my favorite apps ever. 99% of the time when a Developer goes to a subscription model, the existing app we already paid for never stays the same. They slowly cripple it. This is a real shame as this is/was a fantastic app.

in a few months, it will be sad to say goodbye, but I will not stick around and pay a rental fee for something I already own and paid for.

What will I loose if I don't upgrade the app?
I've been using it across platforms for a while and really like it.

I always find it ironic when people spend $700+ on a new iPhone every 2-3 years, $100+/month for cellular service in the USA, and balk at spending $5/year (in this case) for an app that they find useful.

I guess my question is do people think these developers are working for free? I really don’t understand the mindset. I personally don’t use this app, but would gladly spend a fair amount of money to keep developers developing great apps.

Because I already paid $5 for the Mac app and $5 for the iOS app. At the time, the agreement was a one-time payment for using the app. Anytime a developer shifts from that business model to a subscription which sweeps in prior full-price customers, they are essentially reneging on the original agreement. No matter how you spin it, that leaves users with a bad feeling.

Junecloud Sync and the ability to forward your e-mails to them to import tracking numbers from those e-mails (which is a feature of Junecloud Sync).

Oh wow, they said most of the features will remain if we choose not to subscribe BUT the feature "add new deliveries" is one of the features you need to subscribe to use. Doesn't that basically mean the app is now unusable without subscribing, even if we already paid?

I have been a big user of Deliveries and have purchased thier app for both iOS and macOS. But a subscription for a package tracking app - I have to draw a line somewhere  I have happily converted to subscriptions for apps that give me great value such as 1Password and Fantastical Family, but a package tracking app subscription. I'll pass! :p

In Denmark, we have seen a number of new shipping companies, such as DAO, Bring and CoolRunner. I have collected API documentation and sent to Junecloud to get support for these new companies in Deliveries, companies that have become quite large in Denmark, but now a couple of years later they are still not included :(

In Denmark, the local postal company Post Nord has developed an absolutely fantastic app, where all packages sent to one's address are automatically added as soon as the sender has registered the shipment to your address, and since many online companies process orders automatically, the shipment is live in the app automatically just a few minutes after an online purchase. Works great with Amazon too. I'll stick to the new Post Nord app and then use some other free service for the few UPS, DHL etc. deliveries I get.

Farewell Deliveries. It was a great ride!

moving to a subscription model to have uniform pricing is just strange. Goodnotes does it without any subscriptions. You pay a single price for the app across iOS and Mac.

this is a free app that also supports to forward an email to track https://onetracker.app/
