Package Tracking App 'Deliveries' Switching to Paid Subscription Model Across iPhone, iPad, and Mac

What will I loose if I don't upgrade the app?
I've been using it across platforms for a while and really like it.

According to this page: https://junecloud.com/support/deliveries-ios/subscriptions.html you need to subscribe to get the most basic feature of "adding new deliveries". I find it pretty misleading for them to say that most features will remain even if you don't subscribe.

EDIT: I was wrong, here's some fine print below that says existing subscribers will be able to add new deliveries, just not sync via their website.

I understand that developers need to make money. Why is it that they get rid of the old version of the app that I and others have paid for and replace it with the new one based on a subscription? I hate that Flexibites just upgraded Fantastical to version 3 with a subscription and took away features. I am ok with continuing using an app that I know may no longer be supported. Also, why don't more devs follow Agenda's subscription model?

I've been using this app for years for personal and work deliveries. $4.99 doesn't seem like the end of the world.... since I use every single day for dozens of orders. I honestly expected it to be $9.99 or even $14.99/year.

Okay I love ripping these guys but read the whole page you posted :p

For those who previously purchased Deliveries before subscriptions were available, additional features are available without a subscription.

If you click the learn more link it shows the features you are grandfathered into including add new deliveries!

Oh good. I didn't read the text at the bottom, I just saw the table and was annoyed enough to post it here. So why did they hide the important part? This actually seems more reasonable now.

It's too bad...Love this app as a free version. I use it to track packages as a private individual and it is helpful but not for a yearly fee.
Plus...the app is only as good as the delivery service you are tracking...UPS, USPS etc...their systems have all been crap lately...given some of it is COVID / understaffed related. But still not worth it to me.

As in Shark Tank....I'm out!

I love this App and use it a lot. Especially now with the COVID and getting so much delivered. It's convenient to have all one's deliveries showing in just one nice place. And I do understand the developers need to profit from their creation. However, I also need to weigh convenience versus how many subscriptions I am willing to pay for and keep. This just doesn't fall under my "Need to have" even though it's pretty cheap. I'm just gonna have to let this one go.
Cheap subscription here, cheap subscription there and on and on and pretty soon you're talking REAL money.

I assume they are trying to discourage people from buying the app right now and grandfathering in.

Huh, I actually find Deliveries much more useful when the mail service is unreliable. It lets me check to see if something has been delayed past its originally scheduled time.

The update is just an update, I don't think anything is changing substantially beyond the pricing structure and some UI improvements. I agree the App Store ought to provide an easier way to download older versions of apps, but that isn't JuneCloud's fault!

I'm using their old Dashboard widget, which I'm expecting to continue working with my Junecloud account provided I subscribe.

I love this app, been using it for several years. Each release makes it more stable.

I have zero issues paying monthly for something so useful and stable, especially while expecting regular releases.

Is that not a bait and switch tactic? We paid for an app which included its updates and features. To now change face and say well for those same features we are going to charge you more. Individuals who have paid for the app should be grandfathered in.

Oh Crap, iCloud sync is worthless for synching packages info between my mom's iPhone and my devices

I don't use any of the features going under the subscription tier but I still plan on subscribing because:
- Yearly cheap subscriptions like this are totally justifiable in my eyes
- Any future features are totally worth it
- Supporting and encouraging great developers is better than my sense of pride over a few bucks ;)

Perhaps, anyone who's going to be ordering a new iPhone should be downloading this app. Does anyone know how accurate it is?

You don't know how accurate this is, but everyone with a new iPhone should be downloading it? Er, okay. No way will I ever pay a subscription for an app.

We have so many wonderful customers, but most people have never tried Deliveries. We know a big part of that has always been the upfront cost: the current price of $4.99 for the iOS app and $4.99 for the Mac app is a lot to ask before you’ve even had a chance to figure out if it does what you want it to do. Subscriptions will make it possible to download the app on all your devices and try it for a month, or even a full year, for less than it would have cost to buy both versions.

They really couldn't think of a better rationale?

Ok so what are the best alternatives for something that works on iPhone and MacOS? I hate subscription models.

Just a reminder that your entire life is nothing more than a rental.

No. I paid a lot for this body. One time payment in karmic debt. It’s a good one. Sometimes breaks the speed limits, sometimes speed records, and it goes into reverse too.

We paid for an app which included its updates and features.

You paid for an existing feature set which you get to keep. You also get updates to ensure that the app is functioning well on the current platform for free.

About the only thing you don't get is new features which is very common in software lifecycles. In fact, this is one the better deals I've seen from those who convert from single-paid to subscription-based services.

If you previously purchased Deliveries, you can continue using most features without a subscription. You’ll be able to add new Deliveries and sync with iCloud. You will need a subscription to sync with Junecloud, and we may add other features in the future that require a subscription. However, you’ll also receive a complimentary subscription based on your purchase date—so you’ll have anywhere from 3 months to 18 months to enjoy all the features of the app before you need to even consider paying for a subscription.
If you purchased the app, the only missing feature seems to be Junecloud feature, which lets you forward email to add new delivery. As a loyal customer, I can live without that feature. I will tip the developer if I can as I have received many years of updates.

Having said that, if I was a new customer, I would find $4.99/year on the high side. There are many free apps (although at the expense of harvesting user information) and official apps from Amazon, Apple Store, eBay, FedEx, UPS, and other retailers notifies you of upcoming deliveries without requiring you to add a tracking number.

Still, I personally like the convenience of being able to track all my deliveries using a single app. I wish the developer would offer IAP for new customers wanting the same features as the loyal customer.

I use this app constantly. My wife and I receive probably 5 packages per week and send roughly as many. I've had the app for years and refer to it almost daily (actually wish they made a Windows version so I could install it on my work PC as well).

Honestly, I think $5 per year is not terrible for quality app I rely on.
