Again with the "Rights" speak. Fascinating. Apple is not a democracy. In the US, there's a difference between the political system and the economic system. We don't vote on how Apple operates, and there are no "rights" to tell a business what model they should use. Perhaps it's different in your country; but either way, I don't know any modern democracies that grant a Right to the citizens to dictate how a business operates. I think you're confusing "democracy" with socialism.
In an actual democracy Facebook would have been broken down, regulated and the CEO forced to step down after it successfully meddled in a national election. Remember how Cambridge Analytica had to close down but Facebook managed to retain its reign. Last time I checked England was not a "socialist" country.

And what's with the condescending tone? Let's try and be civil and respect the opinions of other community members, even when we disagree with them.

Also a nice read if you find the time.

My particular issues are more with how Apple controls the iOS and restricts even basic features. Also I think you may be assuming that I'm siding with Epic here, no, not at all, I hate loot chests and in app lotteries as much. But I think there should be a way to deliver iOS Apps if someone doesn't really have a need for the huge market possibilities that App Store provides for the steep commission that it charges.

For example to install a font on iPad OS, you have to download a 3rd party. But that's fine, what's ridiculous is that
Apple itself issues that as the official approach to do that. This is just one of the several issues, including the App Store bits.

And this attitude that if you don't like it you should use something else harms Apple more than anyone else. People love the products and want them to improve. Obviously if they could use an alternative they would have. iOS devices are now really powerful in terms of the hardware capabilities, but it's the OS that is really holding the whole thing back. So all these people defending Apple here are just causing delay to the inevitable evolution of iOS into a powerful and customisable system. After all why else would you need a 16gb 1TB Desktop Class SoC on a mobile device if it can't do anything fruitful?
Apple does have tight fisted control over iOS. But I don’t see apple taking requirements from MR forums regarding applauding apples right control over iOS — thus hindering future enhancements.

As to why apple puts powerful hardware into its obj es and iPads — my view is because they can.

Well they surely do social listening I'd say. It's either these Apple related blogs or chaotic tweets.

For all we know they could be taking cues from MKBHD.

Well that sucks! I really hate giving Apple even more money. I already gave them $1,000 for my iPhone and iOS, yet they want a cut because I use the services of someone else? And I don't even have the ability to pay with PayPal or Venmo?! Wtf!

Apple legally is entitled to be paid for its intellectual property in delivering a service through iOS. And as a consumer, why would you even care? You’re not the one footing the bill.
