Side out keyboard = ancient garbage and there is really nothing that could change my mind about that.

For that and many other reasons, the iPhone is the only game changer.

I really don't see a lot of peer to peer gaming on its way for the Palm Pre either........

The Pre looks quite good, but I don't like their Synergy thing and the way it tries to combine everything. I don't want my Facebook contacts, to be merged with my phone, IM, etc contacts, and vice versa. If I want to contact someone (who's both on my phone and in Facebook, Im's, ect), I'll contact them via the means of my choosing, and I'd expect the response to be via the same means, unless I say "Call me", or "email me".

In Palm's CES 2009 keynote, they ran through a scenario of you receiving a message via IM, and responding to the same person via a SMS.
That would get confusing for those without a Pre. When you ask a question, or send a message via one set of means, you'd expect to have the response via the same means, imo. Having the conversation in one place on the Pre is fine, but if the person you're talking to, is using email, Facebook, SMS, ect, then they'd get totally confused, lol.

As I said, Pre looks good, but IMO, it's the fruit of an initial response, to a MacWorld 2007 iPhone.
With iPhone OS 3.0, Apple will stay ahead and will raise the bar even higher, with the new hardware(when it's eventually announced).
Take note, Palm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sGsRhKZZ40
Don't want to start a flame war, or anything, but LOL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TvhyCmnTb0

Hehehehe, the Palm Pre fans know that when the new iphone comes is announced in June, their phone is dead in the water. If you think the iphone 3g was hyped, you just wait and see. People will be in lines for months for the next iphone, if these guys want to go toe to toe with Apple on marketing and hype, they don't want it.

I wonder how much the iphone market is really expanding because many of those ppl buying the iphone already owns one.

Well the Pre did win the Best In Show at the CES. iPhone hasn't won any kind of CES type award as far as I know.

Perhaps this is because Apple hasn't participated in CES for a *long* time? I'm not saying that every Apple product is perfect, but I'm sure they could have won plenty of CES awards over the years if they had bothered to show up.

Good point. The market for the iPhone probably has already reached it's peak. Don't get me wrong, it's still going to sell at a steady pace, but the days of "long-lines for months" are over. From the 3.0 keynote, the huge majority of iPhone owners are 3G owners. IIRC, there are only about 2.9 million original iPhone owners out there, or people who can immediately upgrade without a penalty. Anyone else who wants to upgrade (the 10+ million with 3Gs) will have to pay full price. I don't expect current 3G owners to be "camping out" due to this fact. As for new owners, if people were dying to get an iPhone (that is, the type who would "camp out" in line), they probably would have already bought one. And anyone who actually knows that firmware 3.0 exists (and knows the new features it brings) likely already owns an iPhone. There aren't going to be new customers who say "oh, the iPhone now has cut and paste, I have to have one now!"

Yeah we shall see, people always spew this same garbage.

Cover your mouth when you yawn... Most ppl with iphone 3 had iphone 2. Why do you think there were so many iphone 2g on ebay? You can't really compare it to ipod since the ipod does not come with a monthly fee.

Yeah that's what they've been saying about the ipod for years. Yawn.

Do you have any objective reason to think otherwise? If you disagree with this why don't you post something semi-intelligent? Nevermind, I'll quit feeding the troll.

The iPhone is a runaway freight train. There is no catching it anytime soon for the competition. Here are a few quick reasons:

1) It has a built in iPod!!! No competition comes close to this.
2) It basically runs OS 10 - Think about how much possibility this brings?
3) It has an amazing touch-interface (Cocoa Touch) and excellent tools for building apps provided free from Apple. Hence all the awesome apps
4) it is 100% supported by Apple. i.e. you won't be forgotten the minute you buy it (with no updates)
5) It has a fully functional app store, and iTunes to back it up
.....
On and on it goes....

Also, and this is a BIG one, it is becoming a standard platform. Companies all over the world are developing apps for iPhone and ignoring other platforms. Why? They can easily make an excellent app, test and release. That's it! Very quickly it is becoming the Windows of the smartphone world. People buy Windows because the apps they want are only on Windows, and developers write for Windows because most people use it. This will become true for iPhone.

My point??? For something to be better than iPhone it would have to have been around for at least a few years to maybe catch up.

I suggest you stick with your iPhone :D:D

With all due respect, you sound like an infomercial...a bad infomercial.

Why don't you get a brain.

Please back this up, and ebay is not evidence.

A fair point. I used to work in sales ;). But still. I like to think I can predict technology trends to some extent. Anything that dethrones iPhone will do it in years, not weeks. I mean OSX is far better than Windows, but look at the market share? In short, the apps available matter...a lot.

well since we don't know what the new iphone will have... and nobody has actually used a Pre... I'd say that's kinda a premature question, no?
