This phone rocks. I own an iphone and watched the video demonstrations with the pre and I must say that this is the best competition to the iphone thus far. Hopefully, Apple will take notice and start improving on the iphone in ways other than offering useless apps (stocks, you tube, etc. ) and crap like google street view.
Quite a few people did, but I'm pretty sure there are a lot more customers who would be considering an iPhone if their existing carrier had it. That's what I don't get with exclusive phones. There would be way more potential sales if it were universal.
Guys, we may all have iPhones, but PLEEAAASSSEEE don't get caught up in this idea that it is perfect... [trim] ...We can only hope this spurs Apple to innovate with the iPhone like Apple spurred the industry to innovate with its entry into the cell phone market.
Gotta keep in mind that those are the original apps when the phone cost $499. At that price, you'd bet anyone at Lehman Brothers would've wanted it.
Besides, it's all eye candy. Google Street View is a nifty addition that adds value to the iPhone. Would prefer copy+paste over it, though.
Sorry, I can only award 1 a day, and he got it. Better luck next time.@ SevenInchScrew
<-- Is sensible as well! Can I be the hero now ?![]()
He's also never tried to back up a 500 GB HDD that's full to an external. USB is ungodly slow for those kinds of things... but anyways that was off topic.
MMS is what people want. Most people aren't going to change their ways to get an iPhone, especially when there are alternatives that can do what they want. I really want voice dialing via bluetooth, (I would like to be able to do it from my headphones too).

Some of you think the recent CPU buzz is for the iTablet, but the iPhone desperately needs more horsepower to do iChat AV, copy+paste, iGPS, and MMS, etc. Who'd need a netbook if it could do all these things, really?

I bet you Steve almost drowned in his own coffee when he saw this unfolding! Haha, better get your ass back to work!
dude! the MMS is old..lets rock with the e-mail. I know that people aren't ready for that, just like people werent ready to let go firewire..as a teen it was hard first but i got used to it
Palm, late to the party again...

It looks OK but it's no iPhone killer. It's going to ship 6+ months from now and cost twice as much as an iPhone? Good luck with that. Apple will be well ahead with a major hardware and software revision by then, with many more apps, marketshare, mindshare, and developers.
For us iPhone lovers, this is good. Palm just set a new standard for Apple to follow! Expect MMS and copy and paste on the next iPhone, maybe a better camera with video recording too.![]()
Guys, we may all have iPhones, but PLEEAAASSSEEE don't get caught up in this idea that it is perfect. This phone gets alot of things right that the iPhone got wrong. Throwing up automatic defense that this phone is mediocre in comparison to the iPhone is akin to so many Blackberry and old Palm fanboys throwing up an automatic defense when the iPhone was released and claiming their phones were so much better, when they were, in all aspects, not. This is the phone (the Pre), if any, to light a fire under Apple's ass, because, damnit, they need it. Innovate with the iPhone; add what customers request; take out ridiculous roadblocks to developer innovation; stop making us wait! Even as what some would claim as an Apple fanboy (I own 3 iPods, 1 iPhone and Macbook Pro), I truly commend Palm for what they've done with this device. I'm truly in envy of this phone and thinking of switching just to get it. Let us not deny it guys: the Pre is hot hot sex. We can only hope this spurs Apple to innovate with the iPhone like Apple spurred the industry to innovate with its entry into the cell phone market.
All things Digital:
"The biggest unknown is price, which went unmentioned during the demo. My assumption is that Palm (PALM) would try to take market share by coming in significantly lower than the $200 or so Apple wants for its iPhone. But when I ran that theory by Palm CEO Ed Colligan , he looked at me liked Id peed on his rug. 'Why would we do that when we have a significantly better product,' he asked, then walked away."

Wireless charging is cool-- you just put a special plate on the back of your phone, put your phone in the dock, plug the dock into the wall and it charges.Lastly, the wireless charger is pretty slick, I wonder why more company's haven't jumped on that yet.
Don MMS will never be on the iPhone that's a dream you should putto rest now. Out of all the features people want MMS is hardly a top tier feature and if it is for you get a razr or something.
