No it doesn't.....it can play 3D game, it can damn well do copy/paste and MMS. Copy/paste is so easy, and MMS is the same.

This is not a CPU issue, its software!

That depends on the app.

Currently, there are some apps (i.e., Jaadu VNC - aka Teleport) that will not work unless you force quit MobileSafari and/or Mail because these run in the background.

Somewhere down the line, significant 'free' firmware updates will cease, as they become hardware-dependent, very much like the PPC-Intel transition.

AT&T is mediocre, as is Verizon. But Sprint? :p.

Exactly, Sprint is the ***** compared to AT&T. The fact that I pay $75 a month for what AT&T chargers iPhone users $120 for makes me really like this phone. Even over the HTC models.

My bill also includes insurance which gets me a FREE phone when damaged and a replacement phone when lost or stolen for $50.

The first iPhone "killer" that actually looks promising! Nice!!

Agreed. I am glad that Palm didn't go all out and copy, and I am glad that Palm finally worked on their grossly outdated Palm OS. I think that coupled with a real keyboard is very promising, but after playing with the HTC Touch Pro for a while I like the idea of having both a touch and virtual keyboard to choose from.

I bet this device can also create office documents too, something the iPhone can't do along with copy/paste, mms, etc.

If there's a seamless way to sync my calendars and contact from Mobile Me/iCal, Address Book then this would be the device for me, even with it's rather smallish screen.

If they don't push me on a Sprint "Everything" plan, I'm so on this.

They won't, it's not AT&T or Apple. I bet you can use this device without a data plan, but it may cost you.... but at least you have an option.

p.s. Seriously speaking, the fact that this phone has insurance makes it better than the iPhone. I can drop my Pre and crack the screen and get a new one for $50! Forget about it! All I need to know is if it will sync!

ok just watched the vids of the pre, palm might be late to the party but they 've brought along the best gift.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeKXksLEYo8&NR=1

At moment the ui of the palm is by far superior in usability to the iphone, watch it and weep boys, truth be told. Look at how responsive the apps are, look at this guys doing stuff that it would take us 2 to 3 button hits with a mere gesture, the cards feature and running background apps is fabulous, in comprison our phone looks like something from the ice ages.

But like I said in my previous post shame about their design and marketing department, the phone is fugly, and the name pre is unimaginably bad, had they tried to find a worse one they might have not succeded.

True, but Palm has had sucky names since the introduction of the Treo. Not to mention that epic fail the Foleo.

Nice to hear, and read, and double check what is said about the OS. Since that's the only thing holding the iPhone up above the rest. Palm may have something on Apple.

I am sure many iPhone reviews/lovers will be biased towards the iPhone simply because they are Apple fans, but there may be hope to those that want to have a phone that does actual work with a plan that won't bankrupt users during a recession.

p.s. Yes it is fugly, looks like the HTC Touch Dual or Viva.

MMS is what people want. Most people aren't going to change their ways to get an iPhone, especially when there are alternatives that can do what they want. I really want voice dialing via bluetooth, (I would like to be able to do it from my headphones too).

Don

Exactly. My wife and I are not on contract with Verizon anymore, and I'm willing to switch, but I'm holding out until June for the iPhone 3. In fact I bought her a Touch to tie us over until then.

I'm (hoping) the new iPhone will have more disk space, MMS, voice dialing, Flash, copy/paste and a camera with a flash.

Until that happens I'll wait. If it doesn't by July, I'll re-sign with Verizon.

Yeah, you jogged my memory...foleo...oh my god...but I still think pre (as per an earlier post of mine, pre what? pre game, pre show? pre reminds of something in the past not an advanced phone)

There's an extensive os previes, to be exact ui previe for about 35 minutes (in portions) at youtube for anyone interested, and it's impressive they of course taken the cue from a lot of things on the iphone but they added up a lot of very useful functionality.

And I am biased in favour on my iphone!!

Better re-sign now. I doubt you'll get all of that in one update.

You may get 32GB then some software updates to get you the rest, but I doubt you'll get that flash and voice dialing.

Looking at the video of the new Palm OS... and this is what the iPhone OS should have been.

Now the only way I can see Apple getting passed this phone would be to give users what they've been wanting since intro, or put the iPhone on the Sprint network.

The navigation is to put it simply.....

KICK @$$

I have used enough iPhones and iPod Touches to know that this UI is actually worth a look at by Apple.

The only thing keeping users from adopting it like crazy is syncing with the Mac and/or Mobile Me. But I barely get that now, so ....

NO WAY......!

I don't think Apple will have this for the next version of the iPhone. There's a chance, but Apple is pretty much going to have to redo a good portion of the iPhone OS (not hard) or just simply mimic the Palm OS and use the reality distortion field to make everyone think they did it first. (a little harder)

I want to see some of these features in OSX/Windows 7/Linux.

I'm sorry Sprint sucks. It's just that simple. My family has had bad experiences with both Verzon and Sprint. AT&T is one of the iPhone's advantages.

I'll agree with you on the UI of the Pre. It is 10x better then the iPhone's UI. Apple tried to dumb the iPhone down way to much. I really want a real UI on the iPhone, that includes a file management system. I want to have Finder, and a folder that has all my apps, and a folder for all of my utilities. And I want to be able to access Wi-Fi settings by clicking on the Wi-Fi icon that's on the screen, etc. The iPhone's UI sucks compared to the pre's.

Well at the moment *sigh* the world's most advanced os that is according to apple is OS X has yet to implement merging functionality when you copy a folder of the same name somewhere, like the linuxes and the dreadful vista, in its world's most advanced wisdom osx will just paste over one folder with the other and delete it instead of simple and so ENABLING option to just merge the two. Ah....apple....

The truth is that there are many people that will flip flop here and there. My worst two are AT&T and T-Mobile. T-Mobile being much better now, but AT&T pretty much staying the same. Right now their plans are just ridiculous. Rollover minutes excluded.

I just wish it wasn't so freaking ugly as original sin.

Harrye123, the sad part is that not many people would even think about doing that. It would be an amazing option, one that I could have used many times during my work day. This all just makes me want to see what Windows 7 will offer in terms of functionality. I hope to see Apple getting back to its roots, offering unique systems that cater to those that have or want to be more creative.

This device looks very good from the description in terms of phone and software features... something that Palm urently needs to pull itself from oblivion. Palm OS no longer looks like it fell off the ugly tree.

The interface looks nice, and the feature set is good too. People need to realize that a touch interface isnt what makes or breaks a cell phone.

You sir, are my hero. I only wish there were more sensible people like you on this board. I really like Apple products, and I love my iPhone. But, thinking that just because a product comes from a particular company makes it better than another is just stupid. Especially when none of us have even TOUCHED the device yet.

The iPhone is very good, but it has issues. The Pre looks to be very good as well, as Palm isn't just some upstart phone company. But it will, undoubtedly, have issues as well. All products do. But if people can't can't see that great competition like this can only HELP all of us, then you really need to look harder.

Hahahaha, thanks dude. I appreciate it.

It is pretty amazing, despite the nagging feeling one gets using it of "hey it's not rocket science why didn't they come up with it like ten years ago", but both ubuntu and vista I am using as well it just unties your hands so many times. BUT I was under the impression that in snowleopard they were AT LAST going to implement it, you mean to tell me they are rolling out snow leopard in 2009/2010 with copy over your folders functionality...jesus christ that's unreal....As for windows 7, well I ve seen the photos, even downloaded an illegal leak, but, you know, after banging my head against the wall and forking up so much money over at redmond its very very very hard for me to bring myself to do it again, there's just so much pent up anger about these guys over at M$ and they way they 've done bussiness...uggg...that said office 2007 redesign for xp/vista is pretty amazing, it's the only thing I can go hat's off to these guys for coming up with something that blows the old menus away...but then how much money have they gotten of office in the past 15 years, enough to buy a couple of african countries or so, huh? All that for the damn ribbon...

wow

wow that is basically the palm iphone. The os looks nice like they just put every popular os and called it their own. I hope it does well it looks promising, i hope it doesn't become another failed iphone killer. Right now i have tunnel vision i'm waiting for the newer iphone or a new update I spent 300 dollars on my iphone i'm riding out my contract

Sprint needs a lot more than a single device to turn their company around, they need a quality network.

I do believe AT&T's is worse. They may have a large network in the states, but you can't get consistent 3G anywhere with their phones.

At least with Spring I get EVDO wherever I go, it's always fast, and I don't have to worry about a lost signal especially in the populated areas. The company phone running on AT&T barely works here in B-more, even downtown.

I have a feeling Sprint will do just fine. Make a comeback and destroy the overpriced AT&T? No way! But remain the alternative to ridiculously priced cell service? Yes.

True, and another reason why I can't stand MS that much. They have the capitol, can they please use it. I will never forgive anyone at Palm for wasting what...... 5 million on development of the Foleo? WTF were they thinking with their aging OS?

Windows 7 should be the OS that makes people think hard about their $1300 before they spend it on a Macbook to surf the web and use MS Office. And maybe make Apple think about their approach to locking everyone in to their system, which was good at one time, but now that tech is changing, and the grass looks greener on the other side..... you know. ;)

Palm demonstrated what it really means to be innovative when it comes to interface design.

Glad to see them back on top of the ball.

Now this is competition!!! That is definitely iPhone's first REAL competition! This thing has everything I want in my iPhone. :( APPLE, get it together. Copy & Paste better be in 2.3 or 3.0!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

LOL... Apple can't even get PUSH out the door. :p

When the Pre ships with all this nice hoopla, and Apple has done nothing but sit on their asses by then, goodbye iPhone.
