I really hope bands start using this. Imagine that, no more (or at least, WAY less) ticket scalpers on eBay and more people would get the tickets they want.

This can make it worse. Here is why:

Ticket sales people need to allow you to purchase multiple tickets. (ie buying 4 seats for something via internet, etc). The ticket sales will end up sending you something you can send to the 4 people coming. (links in email?). Now to scalp, I don't even need to be local. Someone at the venue simply purchases through a scalp site and the proper link is emailed to them on the spot and they walk in. Meaning someone in Asia can buy tickets for a concert in New York and scalp them without leaving their living room or bothering with mail. This opens the demand for buying out shows a world wide business model.

Unless this is solved, I believe the ticketing people will stick to paper.

I can already do this with my season tickets and I'm pretty sure any tickets that I buy for hockey through the Ticketmaster site. My tickets are all paper tickets but I can override the paper ticket with a PDF ticket that is infinitely transferable and, unfortunately, can actually be sold multiple times. Obviously, it will only allow the first person into the venue.

I do agree that wider usage may create more problems.

Then it's up to the developers to come up with a better way of multiple ticket purchases. Where there's a will, there's a way! I do see your point, however.
